8 Assurance Here, you ll be part of the team that audits the greatest number of Ireland s top 100 companies, as well as thousands of other organisations. You ll get to grips with every aspect of clients activities, then advise on whether what they re doing is sustainable, profitable and compliant. It s critical work that underpins investor confidence and adds real value to our clients businesses. By going beyond the obvious and developing real insights into a client s markets, technology, people and management, as well as its finances, you ll deliver truly informed advice. How we re organised Asset Management (AM) Banking & Insurance (B&I) International & Domestic Business (I&DB). Over 1,000 professionals work in Assurance. We work with start-ups, private companies, listed businesses and global corporations. Each of our regional offices operates as a single group, which means wherever you join us you ll work on a diverse range of clients. Qualification route You ll enter into a formal training contract with PwC and Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI). You ll train as a Chartered Accountant and study for the Chartered Accountancy (ACA) qualification.

9 Risk Assurance Solutions (RAS) From the day you join, you ll be on the front line, making the most of your analytical skills and working with clients to help them reduce their exposure to risk. RAS, part of the Assurance practice, specialises in business process and system controls, internal audit, risk management, corporate governance and data services. We use our business process, IT, data and project management skills to improve our clients financial and technological performance, strengthen their internal controls and reduce their exposure to risk and understand their business better. Working in a team of over 90 people, you ll develop: the ability to analyse complex data and processes and work out what drives business risks the expertise to assess and measure financial, IT and operational risks a blend of risk management, audit, consulting and project management skills experience in larger-scale data analysis to support audit and client needs. How we re organised Data Services Internal Audit Systems and Process Assurance Third Party Assurance. After a couple of years with us, you can also progress to roles in our Governance, Risk and Compliance group. Qualification route We sponsor accounting qualifications with Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI) or the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). RAS is an excellent place to study for these accounting qualifications and typically the majority of our students take this route. However, given the range of work that we carry out we also have opportunities for people who want to specialise in areas such as Internal Audit, Data, IT & Risk and support qualifications in these areas. We will discuss your qualification preference with you during the interview process. 7

10 Tax Work for Ireland s leading Tax practice and your know-how will help companies and the people who run them decide how to raise finance, where to set up offices, how to reward their people and much more. You ll also use your initiative and industry insight to solve complex, long-term problems. Our expertise covers all areas of taxation and spans everything from preparing annual tax returns to restructuring multimillion euro operations, and from buying a business to advising celebrities on the tax implications of their worldwide tours. You ll help organisations be more efficient while keeping pace with regularly changing tax rules both at home and overseas. As part of a team of over 500 professionals, you ll advise clients who range from budding entrepreneurs to the world s largest multinationals. And from early on you ll tackle a broad range of work that includes tax compliance, researching case law and cross-border advisory projects. How we re organised Domestic & International Outbound (DIO) Financial Services (FS) Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Human Resource Services (HRS) Indirect Tax (ITX). Qualification route We support both of the tax qualifications currently in the market the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) and the Chartered Tax Consultant (CTC). In Tax, we also need qualified accountants. So you ll have the option to combine study for your tax qualification and the Chartered Accountancy (ACA) qualification.

11 Advisory Consulting Here, you ll work closely with the best in industry, finance and government, bringing fresh insights to the problems they face. One of the big benefits of working in Consulting is that you ll quickly get exposure to senior executives and managers in some of Ireland s top companies. Our clients might want us to help them enter new markets; design new operating models; address the challenges of organisational change or create a technology strategy that supports their commercial goals. 14 I m really interested in the secondment opportunities PwC offers. Currently seven of my department colleagues are seconded to various parts of the world. Jill Bachelor of Commerce Joined 2011 Assurance Dublin International teamwork Ever since I joined, I ve worked on overseas clients and with PwC offices around the world. I think exposure to a global network is hugely important and it s something PwC excels at giving all its graduates. Recently I was seconded to PwC s Philadelphia office to work on a major audit. It was an amazing opportunity that introduced me to different working practices and gave me the confidence to suggest new ways of working in Dublin. I was part of a large team of 25 people, so I ve extended my network too. And, because PwC encourages career mobility, I know I ll have the chance to see more of the world.

15 Shane BE Process and Chemical Engineering and Masters of Science in Financial Economics Joined 2013 Advisory Cork A day in the life I m currently carrying out an Independent Business Review for one of the main national banks, but that s just one opportunity of many. My role as senior associate is really varied. Day to day I ll communicate with clients, juggle jobs and check in with managers; so one of my biggest daily challenges is managing my time. Thankfully, PwC understands the importance of a work/life balance, so although I work hard, I m totally supported in my life outside of the office. Especially when it comes to my sporting commitments and playing for the PwC tag rugby and 5-a-side soccer teams. 13

16 Lisa Bachelor of Business, Economics and Social Studies Joined 2011 Tax Dublin Far from typical Day to day, my work is really varied. I might be discussing Irish tax and social security over the phone with someone moving from the USA to Ireland, attending technical training on recent Irish tax changes or reviewing an Irish tax return prepared by a tax assistant before passing it to a senior manager for sign-off. I could be drafting consultancy advice on the Irish taxation of a client s share scheme or scoping a project plan for a new employment tax. And I could well be out of the office working with clients. I m on a part-time secondment with a global tech company at the moment, so I spend some of my week at their site advising on tax projects across their EMEA operation.

17 There s a lot of variety my role expands and changes from client to client. Liam Bachelor of Civil Law with History and Masters of Science in Accounting Joined 2014 Assurance Dublin A balanced outlook There s no doubt people at PwC are hard-working. We ll stay late to get the job done when we need to, but we don t put in the hours for the sake of it. Instead the emphasis on teamwork means we all pull together to work efficiently and effectively. And the camaraderie spills over into social occasions like the Christmas Ball and our team s away-day. It s great to know the Firm supports a good work-life balance as I m a keen hurler and play for two teams. Plus I enjoy a game of golf whenever I can. Thanks to PwC s golf society, I ve completed rounds at a number of world-class courses this year Carton House as well as the K Club and Powerscourt. 15

Shane Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems and Master of Science in Management Information Systems Joined 2010 Advisory Dublin Total exposure With lots of support from my team, I was working directly with clients within two weeks of joining PwC. It was my job to deliver a technical work-stream on a project for a large Irish bank, coordinating with the client s internal team and reporting to its senior managers. And the client contact just increased from there. The highlight so far has been the chance to travel and gain exposure to global clients. I mainly work with them to tackle their strategic technology challenges, whether it s better aligning their IT strategy with their business strategy or identifying the right technologies to support their business. Recently I completed two major pieces of work for two large global banks.

Louise Bachelor of Business Studies with French Joined 2014 Assurance Dublin Exam success Passing your professional exams is important for your career success. But everyone is behind you to get you there, including the PwC dedicated Learning and Development team who supported me from the start. A Q&A session told me what to expect and gave me the chance to speak to colleagues who had sat the exams previously. Mock exams revealed areas that I needed to work on. And revision sessions with lecturers offered a different perspective on the exam process. With a combination of in-house and external exam support, attending lectures and studying hard for interim assessments, I felt fully prepared for my exams. 17

Marie Bachelor of Business and Law Joined 2002 Tax Position: Partner Dublin Quick progression If you put in the effort and care about what you do, there are great opportunities to progress here. The training, mentoring and hands-on experience I ve had have all helped me get on fast. I learned a lot early on just by shadowing managers and seeing how client projects evolve. And working with ambitious people focused on getting out in the marketplace and building relationships gave me the confidence to grow a business area myself. Now I m an International Tax Partner, advising on tax issues that affect global businesses operating in multiple countries. I lead a team of over 40 people and spend a lot of time travelling to meet my clients in various parts of the US, UK and Asia.

27 David Bachelor of Science in Finance and Masters of Accounting Joined 2006 Left 2014 Current employer: Abbey Capital Limited Position: Head of Finance An ideal platform During my eight years at PwC I developed a network of friends and colleagues that I still value today. The firm gave me all the tools and support I needed to become a Chartered Accountant and enabled me to work with some amazing clients. I spent five months on secondment in New York too another unique learning experience. It was definitely a CV enhancing start to my career. Now I m Head of Finance for a $2.6bn hedge fund. I look after the Finance, Fund Control and Back Office functions, have oversight of the administration team and I m getting great exposure to all aspects of the hedge fund industry. It s a complex world and I m constantly drawing on the numerous personal and professional skills I developed, as well as leveraging the strong networks gained during my time at PwC. 25

We ll also explore how well you understand our business and how much you ve thought about your career choice and professional qualifications (if applicable), as well as how you work and communicate with others.
