2 ABOUT US Mt Martha Community Learning Centre (formerly Community One and Mt Martha Community Contact) has been serving the Mount Martha and surrounding communities since 1979 and been operating as a Registered Training Organisation since We are a not-for-profit organisation with diverse operations, including: Neighbourhood House Adult Training Learning Centre Occasional Care, 3 Year Old Kindergarten and Playgroup Information and referral Low-Cost Counselling Youth Education programs Our office is open Monday to Friday 9.00am pm. 4 ACCREDITED COURSES CERTIFICATE IV IN TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT TAE40110 This course is ideal if you are seeking career advancement, considering a career change or returning to work. Learn the skills required to deliver training and assessment programs in a variety of settings. Do you already have a vocational qualification (eg: a builder, hairdresser or chef?) Successfully completing this course gives you the qualification to train apprentices or to become a trainer in the national Vocational Education and Training sector (VET). This nationally recognised qualification will be highly valued by employers and may lead to work as a trainer in the workplace, TAFE or a Registered Training Organisation. Become a part of this rewarding and expanding industry as a multi-skilled provider of aged care and home and community care support. This dual award course will provide you with a broad and comprehensive skill set to work in a range of roles and community care settings. 5 ACCREDITED COURSES CPR UPDATE / RE-ACCREDITATION HLTAID001 PROVIDE CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSICITATION CPR needs to be updated ANNUALLY. Are you up to date? This course provides students with the skills and knowledge required to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. These skills may be applied in a range of situations including community and workplace settings. Current FIRST AID is a prerequisite. Fee: $90 per person, Fees include materials. FIRST AID - LEVEL II HLTAID003 PROVIDE FIRST AID This course provides students with the skills and knowledge required to provide First Aid response to a casualty. The course applies to all workers who may be required to provide a First Aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. Students must complete their First Aid certificate every 3 years. Is your qualification current? Fee: $200 per person, Fees include materials. ASTHMA & EPI-PEN TRAINING 10313NAT COURSE IN ANAPHYLAXIS AWARENESS 22024VIC EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OF ASTHMA IN THE WORKPLACE This course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to an asthma emergency and an anaphylactic reaction including how to administer the Epi-Pen. 6 ACCREDITED COURSES FOOD HYGIENE FOR FOOD HANDLERS SITXFSA101 USE HYGIENIC PRACTICES FOR FOOD SAFETY This program is essential for anyone involved in Food Handling. It provides the skills and knowledge required to apply good food hygiene practices within the hospitality and retail sectors. Assessment tasks are a requirement for each course. Your facilitator will discuss this with you. Please bring pen and paper. FOOD SUPERVISOR'S COURSE SITXFSA201 PARTICIPATE IN SAFE FOOD HANDLING PRACTICES Under State Government Regulations, all food business owners in Victoria must ensure their staff members have the skills and knowledge required to safely handle food in their roles. Many food businesses will need to nominate a food safety supervisor to make sure of this. Current SITXFSA101 USE HYGIENIC PRACTICES FOR FOOD SAFETY is a prerequisite. RESPONSIBLE SERVICE OF ALCOHOL SITHFAB201 PROVIDE RESPONSIBLE SERVICE OF ALCOHOL All persons working in hotels, motels, licensed liquor stores and/or managing, or in control of a packaged liquor outlet must complete an RSA course to work with the sale and serving of alcohol. The completion of this skill set is aligned to state legislation. Includes Liquor Control Commission Workbook and Certificate. 7 COMPUTERS & BUSINESS BEGINNING WITH COMPUTERS An ideal starting point for beginners, seniors or simply for people who need to revisit computer fundamentals in order to acquire a practical understanding of: MS Windows, working with text and photos, MS Windows mail, distance learning task, Internet and importing photos from your digital camera. Gain confidence to participate in our advanced programs. Computers supplied. A comprehensive and practical introduction to MS Word 2010 (Word Processing). Course outline includes: saving files, finding files, using ribbons and commands, working with text, using spell check, cutting and pasting, indenting text, working with bullets, formatting text, shading text, using tabs, inserting pictures, working with tables and backing up files to a memory stick. Learn the features and functions of MS Office Concentrating on Word, Excel and the overlaps with Powerpoint, this refresher course will get you work-ready. Whether you have just bought the ipad or you want to learn how to get more out of the many features available, this course is for you! Bring your own ipad. WINDOWS 8 PORTABLE DEVICES This is for those with little or no previous experience in using a Windows 8 Laptop or Tablet. Please bring your own Laptop or Tablet. MYOB & SMALL BUSINESS (Suitable for home businesses) This comprehensive course will help you gain the knowledge and skills necessary to use MYOB and run a successful small business. MYOB transactions include setting up a company file, creating a chart of accounts, sales and purchases, bank reconciliation, payroll, GST and the BAS, producing business reports, cash flow, inventory, and more. Small Business outcomes will focus on the skills needed to start your own business, legal requirements, financial management, marketing, strategies, and Business Administration. Whether you want to start your own business, enter an existing business or franchise, gain managerial skills for use in the workplace, or focus on MYOB, this will be the course for you! 9 CREATIVITY APPLIQUE PATCHWORK QUILTING Beginners to advanced. Create your own quilts, tote bags and cushions when you come along and join in our friendly classes, using either hand or machine quilting techniques. BYO cup for coffee. PASTELS AND OILS Enjoy discovering your creativity through an interesting medium of art, in a friendly, supportive atmosphere for beginners and people with experience, using pastels or oils. INTRODUCTION TO SEWING AND DESIGN Learn the basic techniques you require to start creating and sewing your own designs. Get to know your machine. Follow a pattern. Make your own portfolio of work. IN STITCHES Community Craft and Social Group A lovely group of ladies who enjoy creating beautiful craft items and helping each other with new craft ideas and materials over a cuppa and a good laugh! LEARN THE SIMPLE ART OF QUILLING It s easy to make the most spectacular cards when you know how. Quilling involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create amazing decorative designs. All quilling paper, cards and tools are provided. 10 DIY WELDING AND WORKSHOP PRACTICE An introductory course covering basic electric-arc and gas welding and cutting. Material thickness 1mm and 5mm. Introduction to MIG welding, brazing of square tubing (RHS) and mild steel. All welding is done in the flat horizontal position. Includes repairing some broken metal objects from home, and/or farm. Covers use of hand tools, power tools and applying safe work procedures and conducting routine preventative maintenance, e.g. sharpening drill bits, etc. Fee: $120 per person, 15 week course (excluding School holidays). 11 WALK & TALK PROGRAM Come along and walk to get fit, enjoy friendly company, stimulating conversation and perhaps a cup of coffee afterwards. Everyone welcome - pets as well. FREE Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9.15am 10.15am No cost to walk. BEAT OVER EATING The course aims to provide ideas and skills to help curb overeating patterns. We will explore the fact and fiction about, diets, exercise theories, and emotions. Each 2 hour session will have a theme such as, creativity, spirituality and keeping a journal.the group energy can motivate change and support individuals who want to take risks, alter lifestyles or make small changes. We encourage humour when appropriate and we make some tasty snacks. We will share my toolkit of skills from my 20 years of teaching and experience. Please call to register your interest. Fee: $100 per person, 8 week course MOVING INTO LIFE A Creative Dance/Personal Development Course for people who enjoy moving and are looking to create change in their lives. Those struggling with: Anxiety, Depression, Low Energy, Low Self-Esteem or Feeling Stuck will find this course particularly useful to create shifts at a body/mind level, unleash their vibrant, potential, make healthy connections with self and others and live a good life. No dance experience is needed just the enjoyment of moving. Participants will learn Somatic Practices (gentle and deep flowing stretches) they can practise at home to find body/mind balance. Do you want to understand why we meditate and how meditation can help you in your life? This course includes discussions and gentle meditation sessions, which are designed to help you to understand the many benefits of meditation. Learn meditations to release worries and stress, for improved creativity, for concentration and study skills, for decision making, for relaxation, for goal achievement and spiritual awakening. ITALIAN FIRST STEPS If you are going to Italy or just for the fun of it, this course will open up the doors to Italy s culture, language and your interests. 14 PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT BEGINNER GUITAR LESSONS A fun class for those who have always wanted to play an instrument and what better than a guitar! Easy ways to play chords and progressing onto a fuller sounding chord as you grow in the skill. This course is great for all ages. Singing along is most welcome! Fee $160 per person, 8-week course, 1-hour class INTERMEDIATE GUITAR LESSONS If you can play chords and keep up a rhythm, but have always wanted to play lead, then this is the course for you! You will also learn theory, what chords are diatonic within a key, bar chords and start to master the mystery of the fret board. Join in and start to feel like a rock star! 15 YOUTH EDUCATION CGEA CERTIFICATE IN GENERAL EDUCATION FOR ADULTS (YOUTH EDUCATION) 22236VIC Certificate I in General Education for Adults 22237VIC Certificate II in General Education for Adults 22238VIC Certificate III in General Education for Adults CGEA is an alternative education pathway where students participate in small classes and learn in a supportive environment. Our highly-skilled tutors provide flexible learning options to assist students to achieve their certificate. This is an accredited course that can lead to improved work opportunities, further study and training. CGEA units include: Literacy Numeracy Developing individual learning pathways Career development and pathway planning Personal development skills. Our program also encourages students to participate in the community, learn about the environment and actively promotes work experience as part of their learning. 16 CHILDREN S CENTRE At Mt Martha Community Children s Centre, we follow the principles of the Victorian Early Years Framework. We do this by working in partnership with parents to provide the children with a stimulating educational program, focusing on developing their ability to communicate effectively with adults and other children and become confident and involved learners. Children are encouraged to contribute to their own learning by having input into the activities and experiences we provide. We encourage children to learn about caring for their environment, other people and animals and promote the natural environment through the experiences we provide and our outdoor spaces. Children are most important and we ensure that we pay attention to them, responding to what they are saying, doing and meeting their needs. The Australian Government provides financial support for this childcare service under the Community Support Program. OCCASIONAL CARE Childcare is available for parents who are working, attending classes offered by MMCLC or require care for their child/children while attending an appointment, studying, shopping, recreation, or any other reason. Regular bookings are available. Tuesdays 12.30pm to 5.30pm Wednesdays 8.30am to 1.30pm Thursdays 12.30pm to 5.30pm Fridays 8.30am to 1.30pm 3 YEAR OLD KINDERGARTEN This is a structured program for children who turn 3 prior to 30 April. We provide an educational program to develop the skills of 3 year old children. Monday 8.30am to 12.30pm Monday 1.00pm to 4.00pm Tuesdays 8.30am to 11.30am Wednesdays 2.00pm to 5.00pm Thursdays 8.30am to 11.30am PLAYGROUP Parent-run group with support from our Children s Services who provide equipment, materials and time in the playground. 17 LOW-COST COUNSELLING Mt Martha Community Learning Centre provides low-cost, confidential counselling services to the general community, on a Tuesday, with a qualified Psychologist, covering all issues including: Relationship Issues Trauma Family Counselling Couple Counselling Stress Anxiety Panic Attacks Depression Drug and Alcohol Problems Grief and Loss Careers Gender Issues. This Service is strictly confidential. Cost for a one hour session: $35 for an individual with a concession card $45 for an individual $45 for a family with a concession card $55 for a couple. $55 for a family. Phone to make a booking. 18 VOLUNTEERING We rely on our volunteers to help run our busy enrolment and reception area. If you have an interest in volunteering and would like to share your skills and knowledge, we are keen to hear from you. Our specialist volunteer requirements are: Front office reception Administration requirements Fundraising Community development Marketing Computer data entry Computer programming Maintenance Running workshops Catering. 19 ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP Mt Martha Community Learning Centre is a not-for-profit incorporated association that draws its membership from the local community. Membership is only $22 per calendar year and this gives you the right to actively participate in the decisions and directions the association may take in providing services to the community. The Rules of Association that govern Mt Martha Community Learning Centre can be seen on our website (visit the About Us page). As a not-for-profit group we are reliant on the enthusiasm and active participation of members and volunteers to enable us to provide valuable services to the community of Mount Martha and surrounding suburbs. If you are interested in getting involved in Mt Martha Community Learning Centre s activities and believe you may have skills or experience that would be of use to the organisation, we would be very pleased to hear from you. If you feel you may have skills and experience that would make a valuable contribution to the Mount Martha Community Learning Centre Committee of Management, we would love to hear from you. 21 BOOKING INFORMATION ACCREDITED AND PRE-ACCREDITED COURSES: Mt Martha Community Learning Centre is funded by Higher Education and Skills, a Department of the Victorian Government. Students may be eligible for funding for Accredited and Pre-accredited (Learn Local) courses. STUDENT FUNDING ELIGIBILITY- ACCREDITED COURSES: The fee for an Accredited Course is dependent on eligibility for government-subsidised training. You may be eligible for a subsidised place if: You are an Australian citizen or have permanent residency You are under 20 or are over 20 and you are up-skilling your highest qualification. Our office will assist you at the time of enrolment. ADMINISTRATION FEE: In line with similar organisations, Mt Martha Community Learning Centre has an Annual Administration Services fee, to help absorb increased costs. As a not-for-profit organisation we offer our services at the most economical fee possible, but have to cope with increased administration costs. The fee for 2015 is $20 per person. Only one payment is incurred by a person who uses more than one of our services within the year. The fee does not apply to our low-cost counselling services or CGEA. REFUND POLICY: All refunds and transfer requests must be made in writing and received for consideration at least 7 working days prior to course commencement, and will incur a $20 administration fee.
