7 Preface I wish to bring it to your kind notice that Govt. Degree College Nainpur is old college of District. The institution was established in 1983 as a degree college. The Self Study Report of Govt. Degree College Nainpur a standalone 2 (f) & 12 (b) approval leading Institution of the district, situated in tribal rural area, is the application document for accreditation, as per guideline given by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous institute of the University Grant Commission (UGC). The SSR provides information, as per format of application of NAAC, about Govt. Degree College Nainpur. The first part includes; Profile of the institution and Executive Summary. The second part consists of criterion-wise Evaluation Report and supporting annexure. The report is a reflection of the academic and administrative functions and activities happening during the past years in the College focusing on curricular aspect, teaching-learning evaluation, research, consultancy and extension, infrastructure and learning resources, students support and progression, governance, leadership and management, innovation and best practices and departmental exercises. It is an endeavor which encourages us to examine our strength, assess our weakness, accumulate the opportunities offered in higher education and prepare the challenges that at the forefront. A committee comprising of five faculty member has been constituted to complete to complete the report. The committee has prepared the report through group discussions with its members and regular interactions with the Principal and the entire campus community. So the report is the outcome of the collective efforts of the entire college community which is now being submitted to the NAAC for assessment and accreditation. I highly appreciate the deep involvement and sincerity aswell as collaborative effort of entire team. I, at Govt. Degree College Nainpur, look forward to the visit of the Peer Team from NAAC, and believe their insightful observation would help the institute to achieve its intended future objective better. 8 The College an Overview Govt. Degree College Nainpur, an ideal institution, located in remote tribal area is bound to meet the needs of higher education in Jabalpur division and subsequently has attended a great height in catering and providing better academic environment in the past fifty eight years. The sole aim and ambition of the institution is to impart better and acute knowledge to the aspiring student belonging to socially and economically down trodden tribal sectors of this area. This institution is the only largest institution in this densely tribal populated division of Madhya Pradesh, offering higher education to the tribal students and catering better the needs. The college established in 1983, is providing quality education in 10 subjects at under graduate level, almost all traditional subjects in arts, science & commerce faculties at under graduate level. All the running courses are duly approved by the Govt. of M.P., University Grant Commission and Rani Durgawati University Jabalpur. The college is affiliated with Rani Durgawati University Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh and has been recognized by UGC under 2 (f) & 12 (b) in 16 January The college has well distinguished faculty members, which commit by heart and soul to provide a fully equipped centre of learning covering a broad spectrum of higher education. The college is well equipped with laboratories in the subject concerned having ultra-modern and highly sophisticated equipment, well managed library facilities catering the needs of student, lecture with strong infrastructure, smart class room. The lush green and pleasant campus of the college is spread over an area of 10 acres and located in the heart of the city. The college has good conveyance with Railways and Buses. The quality to improve the credibility with the collegiate degree is the only key factor to survive and compete in the modern era of globalization, which the institution provides. 10 Executive Summary Govt. College, Nainpur, Mandla (M.P.) is known for centre of higher learning in this region since its inception in The college is submitting its landmark document, the SSR 2016 for the first cycle of accreditation, duly prepared in accordance with the guidelines of NAAC and producing the details of records during the last four years. While preparing the Self Study Report of Govt. College Nainpur, Mandla, all the seven core values highlighted by NAAC has been taken into consideration after a long exercise of home work with the faculty members, alumni, office staff and students. The Self Study Report of this college reflects its objectivity with quality improvement, selfevaluation, self-analysis and its professionalism. 1. Curricular Aspects: To shoulder the sole motto and responsibility of the institution, the curricular aspects play an important role. The ambition to provide a quality education the curriculum designing play the pivotal role which involves a complex and stepwise mechanism to go through the discussions with the faculty members, alumni and the stakeholders for upgrading the curriculum. At Undergraduate level the curriculum is developed and designed by the Central Board of Studies, Department of higher Education, Govt. of M.P., Bhopal and the curriculum of Post-graduate level of the different subjects are developed by the department of subject concerned duly approved by the Board of Studies of the subjects. While designing curriculum of PG level the college strictly follows the UGC Model of curriculum. The college offers 03 UG and 03 PG Programmes duly affiliated to the University and approved by the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of M.P. Two numbers of self-financing courses are running that provides quality based skilled knowledge to the students. These courses are- M.A. in Economics & M.A. in Sociology. As per existing mechanism of upgrading curriculum, the college receives feedback from the students, alumni and the stakeholders, which is incorporated in the curriculum to upgrade the teaching learning process. The whole act of curriculum up gradation is duly monitored and analyzed by IQAC. 2. Teaching- Learning Evaluation: The College has an effective learner-centric environment that provides quality education and empowerment to the students. The College operates admission to the students by Online a centralized system of admission in the state. In all the courses of both UG and PG the students can get admission through online process. The able group of students gets proper relaxation in admission. At the beginning of the session, the admitted students get oriented by knowing the system of teaching, pattern of examination, system of internal assessment etc. by the Self Study Report: Govt. 11 faculty members through Zero Classes. The College also provides opportunity to the meritorious and intelligent students to conduct the class, known as Productive classes, whenever the faculty member proceeds on leave. All the activities of the College run as per the academic calendar issued by the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of M.P. To provide skilled and quality education the College has a record of local Experts of the different subjects usually called Pratibha Bank. The College utilizes the expertise of the experts as and when required. The College has well qualified and competent faculties to take challenges of higher education. Among the permanent faculties 60% holding Ph.D. Rest faculty members are pursuing Ph.D. work and likely to be awarded very soon. All faculty members have attended orientation and refresher programme conducted by Academic Staff Colleges of the different Universities. The College students get opportunity to have quality learning of the subjects by one more scheme of Govt. of M.P. named as AMBASSADOR PROFESSOR, who use to visit different colleges and interacts with the students. In the semester system 15% of the marks in each subject are allotted to the students through Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation, a mode of internal assessment. This methodology is useful for skill development as well as personality development of the students. 3. Research, Consultancy and Extension: The College has established several extension activities for social work, such as NCC, NSS, RED RIBBON CLUB, and has organized following extension activities, such as BLOOD DONATION CAMP, PLANTATION DRIVE and most importantly the College has actively participated in SVEEP plan for the recently held Vidhan sabha and Loksabha elections. 4. Infrastructure and Learning Resources: The College is endowed with excellent infrastructural facilities provided for quality teaching- learning process. The College is spread over in 10 acres with sufficient number of classrooms equipped with infrastructural facilities, one large playground for various outdoor sports like Cricket, Football, Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball & Kho-kho etc. and indoor game like Table tenis, Badminton and Chess. The College has already 150 seater hostel for girls students. The hostel has well maintained bathrooms and toilets,although girls hostel yet not opening due to some administrative process. 12 Each year as per instructions of Govt. of M.P. the College organizes very important cultural events called YUVA UTSAV by which the students can expose their talents in arts, culture, music etc. The College has well maintained library with nearly books (both text and reference) with Wi-Fi system of connectivity for students and faculty members. The automation of library will be in future. The College is providing Computer facility with internet to all departments with administrative office also. The College has one well for water supply to fulfill the need of drinking water. There is sufficient number of drinking water (RO) facilities provided to the students and faculty members both in different blocks like Science wing, Arts wing, Commerce wing and Library. All the toilets and washrooms in the college are equipped with the continuous water supply The College has installed 05 KVA Generator for the uninterrupted power supply. 5. Student Support and Progression: The College has well managed functioning system for student support and progression. There exists different committees and cell to operate student support and progression. The College provides a hand book of prospectus to each and every student free of cost at the time of admission bearing all the important information about college at a glance. The College maintains a healthy culture of quality education as success rate of student progression is 85% 100% with minimal drop rates. The College provides a variety of scholarships for student support and progression. It is as follows Post Matric Scholarship, Goan ki Beti (For Women only), Pratibha Kiran Yojana (For Women only), Vikramaditya, Scholarship for Minority Students, Scholarship for persons with disability, Inspire Scholarship, National merit Scholarship. The College provides extra care to maintain equality between men and women support and progression by organizing special extra coaching to women students of the college. The sports also play a key role in student progression. 05 no. of men has participated in different games and sports at state level during last four years. However, 01 woman students also participated in different games and sports. During the assessment period one NCC cadet has participated in Republic Day Parade at New Delhi. Self Study Report: Govt. 13 By the support and progression of the college, 25 students have been selected for Govt. Job in different departments through service commission in last four years. 6. Governance, Leadership and Management: The College is of the view that the education is the most effective way for the empowerment, welfare and development of the society. The college has planned and designed its various programmes and courses to achieve the purpose. The mission statement of college obviously define the distinctive characteristic as it has an objective to develop an eclectic, multi-skilled education for students that enable them to serve the needs of society. To develop this culture of excellence the Principal of the college plays a pivotal role. The College always ensures involvement of leadership in every step of development, implementation of policies and continuous improvement, both in academic field and administrative fields. In the College the process of recruitment of the vacant post of permanent faculty is done by the state Government. Against the vacant post the qualified Guest faculties are invited to teach the students for a limited period by Janbhagidari samiti. In the college there are a number of statutory bodies such as Executive committee, Finance committee, and Janbhagidari samiti that function to take decision for the development and smooth running of the institution. The College promotes a culture of participative management in which all the faculty members are involved. The performance of college faculty members are evaluated annually as per UGC norms (CAS). 7. Innovation and Best Practices: The College campus is environmental friendly. The entire college family is committed to keep the campus neat and clean. The college is always trying to maintain the campus green and minimizes the use of non-degradable hazardous products. Two best practices adopted by the college are: (1) Academic and (2) Administrative There are various academic practices existing in the college to develop the overall personality and skills of the students and to serve for humanity, such as- Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation, Zero classes, Bridge classes, Productive classes, Job oriented project work and Ambassador Professor etc. To improve administrative capability several measures have been implemented with improvement and creation of infrastructure and by providing better facilities to faculty, employee and students. 14 SWOT Analysis of the College STRENGTH: The co-ed college in this region imparting quality higher learning since its inception in Providing comparatively low cost of education in Self Financing Courses due to low economic background of the tribal students. Highly qualified and competent faculties providing quality teaching. College runs 3 subjects of PG level including SFC. Continuous evaluation of students by CCE, helping them to assess themselves. College has well equipped laboratories in all the science subjects. College has elaborate system of Feed Back received from the students on curriculum and teaching. College organizes different Campaign for awareness both in rural and urban areas through NSS and NCC. College provides a variety of Scholarships for financially downtrodden students both men and women. WEAKNESS: College needs more infrastructural facility like Building, Classrooms, Laboratories etc. as the Gross Enrolment Ratio is far increasing. Poor execution of student centric activities due to very low financial status of the students. College needs more post of faculties to be sanctioned and deployed as several new courses have been started. Interdisciplinary teaching and research are to be developed. College administration should have more academic freedom to meet out the requirement of the students. Recruitment of faculties against vacant posts is to be done utmost. OPPORTUNITY: Extension of interdisciplinary teaching. Providing Expertise to the society by developing Consultancy services. Providing Job opportunity to aspiring students through Vivekanand Career and Counseling Cell. CHALANGES: Availability of more Classrooms, Laboratories and other basic facilities. Besides reservation they are also entitled for scholarship. Women The women students provieded 30% reservation in all the categories along with prestigious schemes for women such as Gaon Ki Beti, Pratibha Kiran Yojna and Avagaman suvidha. Different categories of persons with disabilities 3% reservation along with relaxation of 5% in qualifying marks for admission. Economically weaker sections There is no reservation for the students of economically weaker sections however college provides them financial assistance through its poor boys fund. Outstanding achievers in sports and extracurricular activities Outstanding achievers in sports and extracurricular activities get weight age from 2% to 15%in merit marks accordingly their achievement.
