2 Curbside Recycling City of New Orleans Curbside recycling is currently available for no additional cost everywhere in the City of New Orleans. As of January 28, 2014, curbside recycling and blue bins are available for the French Quarter and Downtown Development District. If the address is eligible for garbage collection by the City, it is eligible for recycling collection as well. Eligible addresses are buildings with four units or less, excluding restaurants, bars and hotels. Registration is easy- - residents can call 311 to request a cart and sign up. Items that can be recycled curbside include: Paper (newspaper, magazines, junk mail, office paper, phone books, catalogs) Plastics (#1 through #7) Small metal cans (aluminum, steel, tin) Cardboard Paperboard (cereal boxes, toothpaste boxes) Residents living North of I- 10 will have their recycling collected by Richard s Disposal. Residents living South of I- 10 will have their recycling collected by Metro Disposal Service. The recycling pickup schedule is posted online on the Department of Sanitation website. Residents could also call their disposal company to determine their recycling pickup day. If residents have questions or concerns about their recycling services, they can contact their disposal company directly. Below are the customer service numbers and websites of each disposal company. Recycling bins should be placed out with garbage bins on either the first or second garbage pickup day, depending on the residential address. All recyclables should be placed within the regulation 18- gallon bins provided by the parish. Households that generate more than will fit in one bin may obtain additional bins by calling Bins from the previous program are acceptable if they are 18- gallon open topped bins, regardless of the color. 2

West Bank residents will have their recyclables picked up on the second garbage collection day. Best Buy- bestbuy.com According to corporate policy, Best Buy can take three items per household per day to recycle. Best Buy can accept nearly everything electronic, including tube TVs and monitors up to 32", flat- panel TVs and monitors up to 60", peripherals, DVD players, home and car audio, cell phones, MP3 players, cables, desktop or laptop computers, and small electrics, such as fans and vacuums. Home Depot- homedepot.com Home Depot offers rechargeable battery and cell phone, CFL, and holiday light recycling events at their stores. Lowe s- lowes.com Lowe s, nationwide, provides permanent recycling centers located at the store entrance to offer a free, convenient and easy way for customers to recycle rechargeable batteries, cell phones, compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and plastic shopping bags. Office Depot- officedepot.com Office Depot will take empty ink cartridges to recycle for free. For a fee, customers can purchase a box to take and fill with old technology and bring back to Office Depot for the store to recycle. Radio Shack- radioshack.com Radio Shack offers free recycling of rechargeable batteries, specifically Ni- Cd, NiMH, Lithium- ion, and Lithium- ion- polymer batteries. They will also recycle Lead- acid batteries up to 2 lbs. However, they do not recycle primary batteries, rechargeable alkalines or lead- acid batteries weighing more than 2 lbs each. Target - target.com Target can take aluminum cans, glass, plastic bottles, plastic bags, MP3 players, ink cartridges and cell phones to recycle for free. Walmart- walmart.com Walmart can accept plastic bags and certain electronics for recycling. 5
