1 The Recycling Zone display kit The Recycling Zone display kit helps educators explain the importance of proper disposal of household chemicals and products that do not belong in the trash. The display illustrates all of the services available to residents at The Recycling Zone. The kit is contained in a single plastic storage box. The display kit is adaptable for groups of all ages and sizes. The display kit contains: Examples of household items that should be recycled at The Recycling Zone Print materials detailing The Recycling Zone services Objective: Residents identify The Recycling Zone as an easy and convenient place to dispose of hazardous waste, including fluorescent bulbs and electronics. Overview: The Recycling Zone display will increase the resident s knowledge of services provided at The Recycling Zone in Eagan. A desired outcome is that Dakota County residents will recognize and use the services at The Recycling Zone as an easy, convenient and cost-effective place to dispose of household items that do not belong in the trash or recycling bin. Background information: The Dakota County Recycling Zone is the local drop-off facility for a variety of items. From fluorescent light bulbs to plastic bags, from cleaning supplies to lawnmowers, residents can safely dispose of household items that do not belong in the trash at The Recycling Zone. Refer to the For Residents at The Recycling Zone brochure for a list of items accepted. Household Chemicals The Dakota County Recycling Zone is the local drop-off facility for household chemicals that do not belong in residential trash or recycling bins. Proper disposal of household hazardous chemicals, electronics, fluorescent bulbs, pesticides, cleaners, and more ensures that our air, water and land remain safe and healthy for residents and other living things. In fact, when some household chemicals are properly recycled, they can be used over and over. For example, motor oil never wears out. When used motor oil gets dirty, it can be recycled, refined, and used again. Recyclables Recyclables that are typically collected curbside, such as paper, glass, cans, and bottles can be dropped off at The Recycling Zone. In fact, if an item cannot be recycled curbside, there may be a program at The Recycling Zone, such as packing peanuts, plastic bags, and cooking oil. Reuse The Recycling Zone offers usable household chemicals and paint free for the taking. The Reuse area is open during normal business hours. Additional Services Additional services are available at The Recycling Zone, including: aluminum can buy-back program, tire drop-off (fee), and lawnmower and snow blower recycling.
