3 Impact Significant increase in media attention and recognition for how street art and murals support neighbourhood improvement Funded murals in 8 new wards with a total of 20 wards Due to StART S record of success, 2014 will see an increase in new initiatives and funding that doubles our budget.

7 Approach Ensure that what goes up is of the highest standard Use street art as a way to tell Toronto s stories Encourage works that have relevance to their site or environment Fund projects than can demonstrate that they are able to attract additional private or public sector support Provide mentorship or training opportunities Create work that is located in high traffic, publicly accessible areas Ensure works are well managed, maintained and promoted

9 StART Partnership Grant Program StART s funding remains level at $350,000 Project funding ceiling will be increased from $30,000 to $40,000 as a way to encourage large-scale scale projects that have big impact Greater focus on targeting underserved areas Final reports are mandatory Stronger focus on documentation of projects

11 RE StART Restoration and Education Formally StART s Diversion Program Engage (at-risk) youth and young adults Focus on skill development, capacity building activities and art related educational workshops Funding remains capped at $20,000 Program can now operate up to 8 months RE StART is the R&D arm of the StART program Should serve as the hub for new and creative approaches to mural practise and seeking creative solutions to graffiti vandalism
12 Grant Policy StART Partnership and RE- StART Programs Not-for profit and charitable organizations eligible to apply (artists can apply with a not-for profit sponsor) All projects must be located within the City of Toronto StART funding cannot be the sole source of funds for projects Funding cannot be used to support an organization s ongoing staff or facility costs Projects must have a maintenance plan (5% of budget)
13 Evaluation Process StART Partnership Program Achieves StART s overall objectives and priorities including strong local support and evidence of connecting with a neighbourhood's improvement strategy 30% Excellence of artist(s) work and ability to illustrate how project reflects or chronicles the distinct character of a community and overall artistic quality 25% Organizational background including ability to document project and impact. Past history with StART 15% Mentorships 10% Ability to leverage financial and in-kind support 10% Technical feasibility 10%

15 Outside the Box Goal is to beautify traffic signal boxes and prevent graffiti vandalism Provide opportunities for artists to create works that contribute to the vitality of the streetscape Open call process 20 boxes were painted

18 StART UP (Underpass Program) New program focussed on improving City s underpasses $350,000 set aside for artwork Goal is to begin enhancing and transforming some of the 900 bridges and underpasses Approximately 5 projects annually StART will issue Requests for Expression of Interest (REOI) Check website and StART social media sites for more details in February

25 $100,000 support program designed for properties with a past history of repeated graffiti vandalism Property owners who have received at least one Notice of Violation for graffiti vandalism are eligible to apply Onus is on property owner and artist(s) to make arrangements independent of the City Program provides materials StART Support
