5 But Things Went From Bad to Worse. The problem rippled throughout the applications... bubbling up from the OS, to the databases, to Java and ultimately shut the retailer s website down. Within minutes of the outage, angry customers began to report trouble submitting orders and accessing the website. The cost of downtime was adding up, minute by minute.
