1 Unit Number Unit Name Person Responsible Tractor Trailer Truck Driver Training Mike Kiser : 1 Operational The Tractor Trailer Truck Driver Training Course will develop a tracking system for completer of the program, and upon completion of the program and issuance of the CDL license, 100% students will be employed in the field as Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers. A need for more qualified Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers has been expressed by the industry, noting an average turnover rate of 98%. Advertising, news articles and recruiters from companies have all emphasized the need for qualified drivers. Federal and state Departments of Labor show current and future needs for drivers in this industry increasing. June The course will provide the student with the necessary skill sets which will enable him/her to take the required CDL licensure exam. Then through visits to employers, visits from recruiters, job applications and help from the Alabama Career Center the student will be able to gain employment as a Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver. Students will be employed as Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers. Follow up communication with the student and employers will be logged to show the employment rate. Even though the placement rate decreased by 3% as compared to the previous year, an Excel spreadsheet was created to track placement and completion. Students often have to wait an extended time before a new class begins. Changes will be made in the class schedule dates.

2 Improvement was noted in the program through the development of a tracking system to use to track placement of completers, however, the placement rate was down 3% compared to that of : 2 Operational Students enrolled in the program will be trained on the most modern vehicles available for the industry. The current trucks and trailers are nearly twenty years old and have exceeded their useful operating life by ten years. Current industry equipment has changed over the years and the program needs to better prepare the student for the modern industry. July 2014 $180,000 Newer tractors and trailers will be purchased to better prepare the students for the modern industry. A request will be made in the annual budget for two newer trucks and trailers. Newer equipment will be used for training. Newer equipment was purchased. The program has two 2011 Peterbilt 386 tractors. A review of the equipment condition will occur on an ongoing basis to determine state of repair. Improvement was made in the program through the purchase of two new 2011 Peterbilt 386 tractor trailer trucks.

3 : 3 Operational Increase the number of students attending UTK 111 Tractor Trailer Truck Driver training by 10%. Attendance has decreased by 50% over the past year even though the industry has a need for more qualified Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers according to Labor Department statistics. Some potential students have identified the long wait time between training sessions as a deterrent for enrollment in the program. June 2014 The program's capacity is eight students. As of June 2, 2014, the program will take four students every three weeks instead of eight students every six weeks. This will give potential students less waiting time between class sessions. The course will remain six weeks in duration. Enrollment will be measured over the course of the year with a goal of an 80% increase in enrollment. The UTK 111 had 69 students in the year and 46 students in the year The enrollment actually decreased in the program, the instructors researched the reasons for this and determined that the location was insufficient for the needed training and a new location will be identified. Even though the enrollment actually decreased due to the poor location of the training, improvement was actually made in the scheduling of the program courses.

4 : 4 Student Learning Students will demonstrate proficiency in basic vehicle operations by obtaining at least 80% on the CDL exam. The State standards for obtaining a Commercial Driver's Licence permit and the Commercial Driver's licence is 80% on the exam. Six weeks N/A Instructors will utilize various teaching strategies such as, lectures, readings, videos, power points, chapter tests and constructed practical application open ended questioning. Workbooks and instructional handbooks, work sheets, example forms and handouts will also be utilized. Any student failing may be given remedial training and be retested. All students will score 80% on basic vehicle operations tests and quizzes. All students must score 100% on the Orientation Safety Test. All completers of the training scored 80% or better on the CDL exam. The instructors will continue the action plan. All students scored 80% or better on all basic vehicle operations tests and quizzes. Additionally, each student scored 100% on the safety test. This was an improvement over the previous year.
