Graduate School Divisions receiving applications in accordance with this Kyoto Sangyo (KSU) Guide for international student applicants are as follows: Division of Economics, Division of Management, Division of Law, Division of Science, Division of Engineering, Division of Frontier Informatics. 2. Enrollment capacity The number of applicants accepted by respective Divisions varies each year. Enrollment capacity is limited to several prospective students per Division. 3. Requirements for Application *International (non-japanese nationals) applicants to the Division of Law, Division of Science, Division of Engineering, or Division of Frontier Informatics, must have sufficient Japanese proficiency for completing graduate level study and additionally satisfy at least one of the following four qualifications: *International (non-japanese nationals) applicants to the Division of Economics or Division of Management must satisfy at least one of the following four qualifications: (1) Master s degree or a professional degree from a graduate school in a country other than Japan by March (2) Completion or expected to completion as an international student a course of study at a graduate school in Japan recognized as a Master s course or a professional degree (such as Law School) by March (3) Completion or expected completion of a correspondence course administered by foreign education institution in Japan and thus having been granted a Master s degree, or an equivalent professional degree, from a graduate school in a foreign country by March (4) Academic credentials equivalent to or superior to a Master s degree or professional degree and are at least 24 years old by March 31, *Those who intend to apply under qualification (4) above must contact the Graduate School Division Office to arrange an Examination of Applicant s Qualification before the specified deadline. *The examination of the applicant s qualifications (for those under category (4)) will be based on submitted application documents. Submit the Examination of Applicant s Qualification Application Form (specified form) without the payment receipt stamp issued by the financial institution/bank. Deadline for Examination of Applicant s Qualifications: November 4 (Tuesday),

Application Materials (1) Application Form (specified form by the Graduate School) (2) Certified Academic Record (transcript) from the last school attended (sealed) (3) Graduation Certificate (or verifying expected completion) from the last school attended. a.those who graduated from Universities or/and Graduate Schools in the Republic of China are required to submit additional documents. Please register on the China Higher-education Student Information Online Verification System and obtain the Online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificates(HEQC) ( 教 育 部 学 歴 証 書 電 子 注 冊 備 案 表 ) of your record in PDF format. Print out this Certificate on A4-size paper and enclose it with other application documents. < Refer to the webpage of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China ( 中 国 教 育 部 ): b.those currently enrolled in Universities or Graduate Schools in the Republic of China are required to submit an Online Verification Report for student records of Higher Education Qualification Certificates(HEQC) ( 教 育 部 学 籍 在 線 験 証 報 告 ) by registering the website of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. Obtain a Certificate Report in PDF format and print it on A4-size paper. c.those who submit a certificate of expected completion at the time of application are required to submit a graduation certificate verifying course completion before admission. (4) A copy of the applicant s Master s thesis or equivalent paper and its abstract either in Japanese or English. (5) Application for Admission (specified form) * Applicants to the Division of Law, Division of Science, Division of Engineering, and Division of Frontier Informatics: Please fill in the form in handwritten Japanese, and sign where indicated. * Applicants to the Division of Economics and Division of Management: Please fill in the form by handwriting either in Japanese or English, and sign where indicated. (6) Statement of Purpose (specified form) * Applicants to the Division of Engineering and Division of Frontier Informatics are required to submit a Statement of Purpose. Please describe in details either in Japanese or English. (7) Research Plan Statement (specified form) * Applicants to the Division of Law are required to describe in detail their research plan in Japanese. * Applicants to the Division of Economics, Division of Management and Division of Science are required to describe in detail their reseach plan either in Japanese or English. * Applicants to the Division of Economics, Division of Management, Division of Law, and Division of Science are required to submit Research Plan Statement. (8) Letter of Recommendation(specified form) * Applicants to the Division of Law, Division of Science, Division of Engineering and Division of Frontier Informatics should arrange a Letter of Recommendation by the Dean of their last academic institution or academic advisor. * Applicants to the Division of Economics and Division of Management should arrange a Letter of Recommendation either by their academic advisor or a faculty member of equivalent standing. If the Letter of Recommendation is written in a language other than English or Japanese a translation in either English of Japanese should be attached

4 (9) Certification of having attained level N1 (formerly Level 1) of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test. The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test is administered by Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (in Japan) and the Japan Foundation for overseas examinations. A. Applicants to the Division of Economics and Division of Management who will take an admission examination in a specialized subject in Japanese, and Division of Law are required to submit this certificate. Those who have not taken the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test should have a Japanese language lecturer or staff member of the Embassy of Japan in their country fill in the Japanese Language Proficiency Assessment Form (specified form). B. Applicants to the Division of Economics and Division of Management who will take an admission examination in a specialized subject in English are not required to submit this certificate. Applicants to the Division of Science, Division of Engineering, and Division of Frontier Informatics are not required to submit this certificate. (10) Specialized Field / Major Survey Form (specified form). (11) A photocopy of the applicant s passport showing their personal details, and date of entry to Japan, and VISA for those applying from within Japan. 5. Period of Application Schedule Period of Application: November 5 (Wed) 2014~November 19 (Wed) 2014 (Applications post stamped on the last day of the application period will be accepted.) Applications must be submitted in an envelope provided with the application documents and sent by simplified registered express mail. On weekdays, the Graduate School office is open between 9:00 and 16:00 (Japan Time) for submission in person. The office is closed on Saturdays and Sundays and no mail will be received on those days. 6. 5 7. Admission Screening Fee: 35,000 Japanese Yen For remittances made from within Japan The period of remittance of the admission screening fee is the same as the application period. Remittances arranged on the last day of the payment period will be accepted. Applications will not be accepted after the payment period deadline. (1) Invoices for the application screening fee are printed in one form along with Application Form. Please do not tear off the form. Fill in necessary information in the form and take it to a financial institution/bank (excluding Japan Post Bank). Details shown in the areas under the red-line border on the invoice should be cabled from the financial institution. (2) Please make payment for the admission screening fee using a telegraphic transfer sheet provided (specified form) from a financial institution/bank (excluding Japan Post Bank). Remittance from branches of the financial institutions listed on the transfer sheet will be made without transaction charges. Remittance from branches of financial institutions NOT listed on the transfer sheet will be charged transaction fees specified by the financial institution. (3) Please do not use automated teller machines (ATM) to make the payment. (4) After arranging the remittance, the financial institution will keep the transfer sheet. Be sure to confirm that the receipt seal/stamp of the financial institution was made on the Application Form. Application without the receipt of the remittance bearing the seal/stamp of the financial institution will not be accepted. (5) Please keep the receipt of the payment issued by the financial institution with you. (6) After payment for the application screening fee, the amount will not be returned for any reason. For those applying from overseas/remittance from outside Japan When making remittances from outside Japan, be sure to add Japanese bank charges (confirm at the overseas financial institution) and make the remittance in Japanese yen to the following account. Incomplete remittances will not be accepted and result in application documents also not being accepted. Payment via checks will not be accepted. 6 8. Notes for Application Procedures (1) Read the Application Form carefully and fill in the form precisely and clearly. All forms should be completed in black ball-point pen. (Please leave items blank.) (2) The name and date of birth should be the same as those shown in the applicant s passport or Resident Card. (3) Application documents may not be revised once submitted. (4) Acceptance for admission may be revoked if any information provided in application documents is found to be false. (5) There have been cases where after passing the admission examination, students have not kept their Status of Residence up-to-date and have been required to withdraw from entering this program. In case there are any concerns about changing or renewing your Status of Residence before or after entering the university, please confirm the situation in advance at the Immigration Bureau of Japan, and arrange your application. (6) The does not assist applicants in proxy for applying for, changing or renewing Status of Residence in Japan. (7) Immigration Status in Japan Self-Funded International Students are those who enter Japan with the purpose of studying at universities or other types of educational institutions. In other words, Self-Funded International Students enter Japan with a College Student resident status under the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act and those who are able to apply for a change in their Status of Residence, in accordance with specified procedures under the Act. Those who reside in Japan with the Status of Residence as Spouse or Child of Japanese National or Long-Term Resident or Dependent, and change their Status of Residence to College Student after their entrance into Kyoto Sangyo Graduate School, will not be eligible to receive the s financial assistance for Self-Funded International Students. 9. Examination voucher After the Graduate School Division office receives your application, an examination voucher will be issued and mailed to your postal address. In case that you have not received the examination voucher by two days prior to the written examination, please contact the Graduate School Division office with the name of the Graduate Courses for which you are applying, the date of the postal stamp when you mailed your application documents, the name of the post office where you mailed your application, and the certificate number of the registered mail. 10.Place of the examination Kyoto Sangyo (KSU), Motoyama, Kamigamo, Kita-ku, Kyoto, Japan - 5 -

7 11.Date of Examination and Subject of Examination (1) First Stage Examination Application documents will be examined to determine whether an applicant s qualifications satisfy application requirements. Those who pass the first stage of the examination will be able to proceed to take the Second Stage Examination. An examination voucher will be mailed to qualified applicants. Please bring you Examination Voucher to the Second Stage Examination. Oral Examination (100 Points) (Please refer to the below Notes 4.) Interview Notes: 1. Applicants to the Division of Economics and Division of Management must fill in the language, either Japanese or English, in which they will take the examination of the specialized subject. If an applicant chooses to take an examination for the specialized subject in English, an examination of the Foreign Language subject will be exempted. 2. Applicants to the Division of Law should specify their specialized subject on the Application Form. 3. Applicants to the Division of Economics, Division of Management, Division of Law, and Division of Engineering are permitted to use their own dictionary (paper) for the English examination, but the use of an electronic dictionary is prohibited. 4. At oral examinations, applicants will be asked about their Master s thesis or an equivalent paper, specialized subject, and relevant subjects. Applicants to the Division of Management will be required to give an oral presentation on their Master s thesis or an equivalent paper, and an interview will be give administered based on these. 12.Selection Procedure Comprehensive evaluation will be administered based on written examinations, interviews, and application documents, in order to determine an applicant s admission. 13.Notes for taking examinations (1) Applicants must arrive at the early, check the campus map and the bulletin board, and come to the examination room (meeting place) at least 20 minutes prior to the beginning of the examination. (2) If an applicant arrives at the examination room 30 minutes or later after the beginning of the examination, they will not be allowed to take the examination. An applicant is not allowed to leave the examination room until the end of the examination for the respective subject. 14.Notification of the Results of the Admission Examination Notification of the Results of the Admission Examination will be mailed to the applicant s postal address by December 26 (Friday), Inquiries by telephone will not be accepted

9 15.Enrollment procedures Period of enrollment procedures: January 5 (Monday) 2015 ~ January 23 (Friday) 2015 Those who are admitted to the Graduate School will receive a Notice of Acceptance and Enrollment Procedures documents via postal mail. Enrollment procedures must be completed before the indicated deadline. With regard to the payment of the fee, please refer to the information enclosed in the Notice of Acceptance. If enrollment procedures are not completed before the specified deadline, the will consider the applicant as having withdrawn and their admission will not be permitted. *When arranging remittances directly to the s bank account from overseas, be sure to meet the payment deadline and verify that Japanese bank transactions charges are paid in Japanese Yen (JPY). *If an applicant decides to decline an offer of admission to Kyoto Sangyo Graduate School, they must complete withdrawal procedures by March 31, If withdrawal procedures are completed before March 31, 2015, any paid tuition fees will be refunded. Admission fees will not be refunded. *Those who submit a Certificate of Expected Graduation with their application must submit a Certificate of Graduation by March When an applicant fails to graduate from the academic program that they were enrolled in at the time of ther application, your admission will not be permitted

Those who have graduated from Kyoto Sangyo or who have been enrolled for three consecutive years at Kyoto Sangyo will be exempted from 50 percent of the admission fee. (2) Admission fees will be exempted for those who have completed a Kyoto Sangyo Masters or professional program and are admitted into the Kyoto Sangyo doctoral program. (3) Necessary expenses may be additionally charged for specialized experiments and practicum. (4) Invoices for the above fees will be charged in two installments. Once in Spring (at the time of admission) and in the Fall Semester. (5) Fees after the 2015 Academic Year may be revised at the s discretion. 17.Policy on Handling Personal Information Kyoto Sangyo (KSU) respects fundamental human rights and places extreme importance on the protection of personal information. In this respect, the manages organizational structures and implements regulations. The observes laws and resolutions by the Diet on the nature and the usage of personal information that the holds.
