Model and Paper Space, View ports, 3D Wire Frame, 3D Surfacing, 3D Solid Modeling and 3D Parametric Modeling with Mechanical Desktop and Inventor software. This course is a requirement of the Computer Aided Drafting and Design Curricula. NOTICE: Information in this syllabus was to the best knowledge of the instructor, considered correct and complete when distributed for use at the beginning of the semester. The instructor, however, reserves the right, acting within the policies and procedures of Southwestern Michigan College, to make changes in course content or instructional techniques without notice or obligation.

2 HONESTY POLICY Cheating or plagiarizing will absolutely not be tolerated at Southwestern Michigan College. Any student found cheating or plagiarizing material in any manner might be assigned a failing semester/session grade in this course. A second such incident while at SMC could result in suspension or expulsion from the institution. A student found in violation of this section of the syllabus will not be allowed to drop this course. Additional detail regarding cheating and/or plagiarism may be found elsewhere in this syllabus. METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: EVALUATION METHOD: Lecture, selected readings, and hand out literature and hands on lab exercises and projects. Upon completion of this course, the student will demonstrate achievement of the course objectives by obtaining a final minimum grade of 70%, as measured by tests, laboratory projects and the final examination. The final grade for this course will be based on the following percentages: Quizzes/Exams 10% Lab Projects 60% Work Ethics 10% Final Exam/Project 20% Total 100% GRADING SCALE: ATTENDANCE POLICY: TESTING POLICY: The following grading scale will be in effect for this course: % = A 80-89% = B 70-79% = C 60-69% = D 59% and Below = F Attendance is required and will be taken at each class session. Poor attendance and tardiness will be reflected under the work ethics percentage of the Final Course Grade. More than two absences will result in a reduction in your letter grade. Quizzes may be given at any time and cannot be made up if the student is absent from class. OTHER COURSE EXPECTATIONS: The student will develop and apply a sense of self-discipline and self motivation in completing course objectives. All projects are due upon completion. April 20, 2005 is the last day for class projects to be handed in. Projects turned in after this date will result in a letter grade reduction. COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this course the student will be able to perform the Objectives which are attached at the stated competency level as demonstrated through successful completion of the laboratory

3 projects assigned for this course. CLASS ETHICS: Non-Compliance or Non-observance will be reflected under the work ethics percentage of the Final Course Grade and may result in a grade letter reduction. ATTENDANCE: Attendance is required and will be taken at each class session. Please be punctual. CELL PHONE USE: If you carry a cell phone to class, insure that is turned off or set to vibrate. If you must answer a call please do it outside the classroom. A ringing cell phone or holding a conversation on it in class is not allowed. LAB TIME: Please be courteous to others during lab time. Do not behave in any manner that will disrupt or bring attention to yourself. When using the lab during another class time be sure to identify yourself and ask permission of that instructor. TESTING POLICY: Quizzes may be given at any time and cannot be made up if the student is absent from class. COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this course the student will be able to perform the Objectives which are attached at the stated competency level as demonstrated through successful completion of the laboratory projects assigned for this course. GOALS and OBJECTIVES A. PAPER SPACE AND MODEL SPACE The student must be able to work and switch between Paper Space and Model Space work environments B. VIEWPORTS The student must be able to properly establish single and multiple view ports within each work environment C. UCS The student must demonstrate the ability to manipulate the UCS on demand and establish required views to enhance geometry creation. D. 3D CONSTRUCTION The student must be able to describe and understand the 3D Modeling environment E. 3D DATA INPUT 1. The student must demonstrate the Absolute Data input format on given 3D assignments. 2. Demonstrate the Incremental Data input format on given 3D assignments. 3. Demonstrate the Polar Data input format on given 3D assignments. F. 3D EDITING 1. Demonstrate the ability to define and name necessary view ports for given 3D assignments 2. Demonstrate the ability to create and modify 3D geometry.

4 G. UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPTS OF 3D SOLID MODELING 1. Demonstrate the ability to develop a Solid Model through the extrusion process. 2. Demonstrate the ability to use the six basic Solid primitives 3. Demonstrate the ability to modify Solid Models through the use of Boolean operations. H. UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPTS OF PARAMETRIC SOLID MODELING 1. Demonstrate the ability to develop a Solid Model through the Sketch, Profile, Constrain and Extrusion process. 2. View ports C. Named View ports D. PS/MS-Layout E. 3D Surface Primitives LAB ASSIGNMENTS: Students will create basic 3D shapes Week 2 CONCEPTS: (FYI) Custom Toolbars TOPICS: A. Invoking Custom Toolbars B. Creating Personal Toolbars C. Modifying Existing Button commands D. Adding New Buttons commands E. Deleting and moving Buttons LAB ASSIGNMENTS: Students will create a custom toolbar with Custom Buttons and Commands.

Week 3 CONCEPTS: Creating and applying 3D Surfaces to Wire frame Models TOPICS: A. Ruled Surfaces B. Revolved Surfaces C. Tabulated Surfaces D. 3D Face E. Hide F. Shade LAB ASSIGNMENTS: Students will apply surfaces to (2) Two of their Wire Frame models. Week 3 CONCEPTS: Creating and Editing 3D SOLIDS TOPICS: A. Revolving a Solid B. Extruding a solid C. Joining and Subtraction D. Solid Primitives E. Chamfer F. Fillet G. Displaying the Solid Model (Hide and Shade) LAB ASSIGNMENTS: Students will select (8) Eight models for their Solid Model assignments. Week 4 LAB ASSIGNMENTS: Lab time and Individual assistance. Week 4 CONCEPTS: Rendering Views TOPICS: A. Rendering B. Saving Rendered Views C. Creating Bitmap files LAB ASSIGNMENTS: Students will Display and Render their Models. Week 5 and 6 CONCEPTS: Catch up, Lab time, PLOT Solid assignments and Individual assistance where needed.
