Page 7 / Work Package overview Work package 8: Dissemination, awareness and exploitation is designed to follow the project s development during its entire life. Several tools of communication and dissemination will be developed during the project to meet the following main objectives: - share results and findings of the project with relevant stakeholders; - create a high level of awareness among citizens and relevant stakeholders of the two cities where the testing will be conducted; - set up the conditions to allow the take-up of CIVIS approach and technology in other context; - develop an exploitation plan for the take-up of the project s results. As detailed in the work package description, relevant stakeholders may be grouped into three main categories: citizens, local administration players and actors composing the local value chain. Discussion among project partners lead to the idea that the categories of citizens and utilities might have conflicting reactions to the possible changes that could rise from the project: local administrations might, if this conflicts should arise, play a role of mediation. For this reason the WP foresees activities addressed to all stakeholders as well as actions fine-tuned on specific interlocutors. The tools composing the work package are: - Stakeholder involvement plan (that aims at developing an involvement strategy focused on each subject and to monitor it); - Project website (Project Deliverable D.8.2); - Awareness Campaign (involvement of citizens and society in general); o Live events, o Local media relations; - Promotional material: o Graphic identity, o Leaflet and brochures; - Newsletter (developed in electronic format); 7

Page 8 / 26 - Exploitation Plan (to put the project s results into good use by collaborating with the beneficiaries); - Mid-term conference (addressed to EU stakeholders to share results achieved and to collect feedbacks on the project) - Final Conference. 8

Page 9 / Website Design & Development The implementation of the CIVIS website was concluded in June The responsible partner is Enel Foundation that, not having a staff resource for this activity, selected a subcontractor, as specified in the DoW. The website provides information about the project, the scope, the structure of the consortium and the activities realized. During the project development the website will provide also public information about the status and the achievements of the project. Apart from this information, it provides the links to the site of each partner and references to other relevant links Description of the objectives The website has been designed for an external audience interested in gathering information and news about the CIVIS project. More specific and technical details may be gathered using other dissemination tools foreseen by the project. The technological platform used to build the website allows the creation of reserved and protected area, in which the access may be defined and differentiated (i.e. for project partners only). The information provided by the website may be divided into the following categories of material: General information about the project (project overview, partners involved, contact information, work package description, etc). This section will not change a lot during the life of the project. Events and news - this is, of course, a dynamic section providing information about project events. Il will be regularly updated (see section 3), Pilot sites - this part of the website is dedicate to the action taken in pilot sites and will be constantly updated, Download - it provides all the public documents (deliverables, presentations, brochures, leaflets, etc) developed during the project s life Definition of the target audience

Page 10 / 26 The website is designed to reach an audience as wide as possible, including: - Project partners - Pilot sites communities - ICT experts - Energy Utilities - Citizens - Local institutions - General public - Other EU project Design and implementation As indicated in the Website description, the project partner, responsible for the development of the website, doesn t have a web developer within its staff; it has been therefore necessary to select a subcontractor. Among five enterprises that have been contacted for a quote, the best offer was received from Studio Cheste, located in northern Italy. Enel Foundation and Studio Cheste agreed on the definition of an approach (see Figure 1) that allowed a continuous test of the solutions proposed and refine the concept toward the final version, which has been submitted to project partners. Enel Foundation (EF) provided Studio Cheste with the necessary information on CIVIS project, shared the objectives and specified the audience to which the website is addressed to. Studio Cheste developed some ideas that were internally evaluated by EF. Once a beta version was realized, it has been submitted to the entire consortium (during a plenary meeting). The resulting feedback and new ideas have been integrated to the final version.

Page 12 / 26 From a technical point of view, it has been decided to use a free, commercial CMS (Content Management System). First of all because it represents and easy-to-manage solution, is open to future modifications and supports add-ons. Apart from the possibility of an easy update, this solution guarantees an inexpensive license service and allows the use of all tools necessary for the correct index within research tools. The site is also connected with Google Analytics in order to monitor the users behavior and the key words used. The website is maintained by Studio Cheste. 12 Unique visitors Number of visits Pages Hits Bandwidth Jun MB Jul MB Aug MB Sep MB Table 1: number of visits to website Structure The following image represent the structure of the website:

Page 13 / Maintaining the CIVIS website Figure 3: website structure Enel Foundation is responsible of designing, realizing, maintaining and updating the website, however, all partners are involved in the updating process. All of them will be asked for providing feedback, information, documents, news and any other material they consider useful to disseminate CIVIS progresses and results. A specific tool for a periodical updating (every one month and half) has been defined in order to be as much as possible easy and fast to use. Enel Foundation will ask for contributions each time. A section of the tool:

Page 14 / Figure 4: Periodical updating tool 3 - Website Content The URL address of the website is: The website was filled with the following content, as approved by the consortium Home

Page 15 / 26 The following is the text of this section: Did you know that you could turn into a prosumer? Ever wondered what would be your everyday life with a different use of energy? Any idea on how you would invest extra-energy for a shared goal? CIVIS project explores the potential of social networks and communities to significantly reduce energy use and carbon emission. It will achieve this goal by developing business models for the resulting energy value system and support it with the necessary ICT. The project will focus on two pilot neighborhoods located in Trento and Stockholm in close collaboration with energy companies, citizens groups and local administrations. Project partners will test and evaluate the technology, clarify business potential and estimate the impact of envisioned deployment on a European scale. CIVIS will prove that energy may be turned into a good that people can consume, generate and allocate on the basis of their needs, preferences and values. Today smart grids make energy network more intelligent and accessible. New ways of producing energy will soon make citizens not only energy consumers, but also energy producers. 15

Page 16 / Figure 5: Home page About CIVIS The following is the text of this section (furthermore, a description of each work package is provided by clicking): Approach CIVIS s aim is to contribute to the design of a fairer, more sustainable, energy-optimized smart city. The project focuses on the ICT-enabled social dimension to harness the potential of innovation of individuals and collectives with respect to energy prosumption. CIVIS will link energy, ICT and society to achieve significant impacts in terms of CO2 reduction and new forms of social innovation.

Page 17 / 26 Main output CIVIS will implement a distributed ICT system to: - manage communities energy needs; - negotiate individual and collective energy services agreements and contacts; - raise awareness about the environmental impacts of collective energy use; - allocate energy production resources more efficiently. Architecture The project is composed by nine work packages (a description of each is provided by clicking on them): WP1 - Overall design of the smart energy cities WP2 - Energy and ICT System Analysis of Pilot Sites WP3 - Enabling SMART social participation WP4 - Integration and deployment of the system level ICT systems WP5 - Community Participation: Social, Regulatory and Institutional Dimensions WP6 - Definition of business models for an emerging social decentralized energy WP7 - Testing the energy performance of proposed Smart Grid / ICT installations WP8 - Dissemination, awareness and exploitation WP9 - Project management 17

Page 18 / Figure 6: About CIVIS section Sites For each of the four pilot sites foreseen by the project there is a factsheet; each section has a description when clicking on the title (relevance for the project; impact, energy structure and technical description), as an example, the description of Hammarby, Stockholm: Hammarby Sjöstad is a new area in Stockholm, partly finished, partly under construction. The city has imposed tough environmental requirements in the area, in an effort to reduce energy use for heating as well as for transport, promote and facilitate re-use of resources,

Page 19 / 26 e.g. through waste management and biogas production, and in general to decrease the environmental impact of the area. It is also designed to be a pleasant area to live in, with large park-like grounds with plenty of trees and bushes. The area is facing Hammarby lake, a strait in between Lake Mälaren and the Baltic. To the south there is access to recreation areas by a wide green bridge passing over the roads accessing the area. The total size of Hammarby Sjöstad is 145 ha, and when finished there will be 9000 new flats and m2 new offices and services. Most buildings are owned by local tenant-owner associations, connected to an umbrella organization called Sjöstadsföreningen. This organization and its chapter HS2020, is highly engaged in developing the area further, not the least with the aim of increasing the energy performance, which has proven to be not as good as expected in the initial plans. A specific goal is to make the area a demo-site for Smart Grids. A second specific goal is to make it a demo-site for the next generation Information and Communication Technology. The area is heated mainly by district heating through the large district network of the greater Stockholm area. The sources of the heat are diversified and changes depending on the seasons. A major part comes from a large co-generation plant, Högdalen, partly fired by municipal waste, partly by biofuel such as tall-oil, residues from the wood and pulp industries and sometimes even olive stones, but to some extent by coal. The district heating system is also heated by some of the world s largest heat pumps, some of which are located in Hammarby Sjöstad, using sewage water or sea water as the heat source. Within the area there are a number of smaller installations of PV-panels. However, these are not sufficient for covering the electricity need of the building, except perhaps in certain days in the summer. 19

From its very beginning, it has always been protective towards its academic freedom and it has always been engaged in the development of the local community which hosts and supports the University itself. Over a few decades it has been able to conquer the highest positions in the Italian university rankings. Italy s official educational survey, CENSIS, has ranked the University of Trento as first among the medium universities in Italy. Researchers involved in the CIVIS project belong to the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science (DISI). Established in 2001, DISI represents a world-class assembly of researchers and institutions. UNITN is in charge of the coordination of the CIVIS project and also is responsible for several tasks among all the WP.
