2 What is SportE 2 What is SportE 2. SportE 2 will develop an approach, methodology, and technologies dedicated to energy savings in sport facilities. The main result will be a modular and scalable intelligent building management system ready for market deployment. It will have a ROI of less than 5 years and will target 30% energy and carbon emissions reductions. Another outcome will be knowledge, best practices, and guidelines that can be used by anyone. 5 Background The European Project SportE 2 Energy Efficiency for European Sport Facilities is bringing the concept of fitness from our bodies to our buildings. It is important, the dimension of the EU Sport and Recreation Building Stock is around 1 million and half buildings and it represents about the 8% of the overall EU 48 Buildings Sector. Because the building sector represents 40% of Europe's energy consumption, developing ICT enabled energy savings solutions for this key sector will help Europe meet its targets EUROPEAN SPORT FACILITIES Sports facilities are unique in their energy demand profiles (timing and peaks), usage patterns (long periods of low use and then short periods of high use sporting event), comfort and ventilation requirements, facility characteristics (e.g. swimming pools, indoor courts, saunas, large open spaces, indoor and outdoor lighting, g, etc.). Theseaspects present the opportunity andneedforintelligent energy management actions.

6 Objective SportE aims at managing and optimizing the triple dimensions of energy flows (generation, grid exchange, and consumption) in Sport and Recreation Buildings by developing a new scalable and modular BMS based on smart metering, integrated control, optimal decision making, and multi facility l management. This tool will enable a new relationship and business model structure between facility managers and power providers. The SportE modules will be applicable to both new and existing structures and answer the fundamental questions of how, where, when and why energy is produced, used and grid exchanged.

7 Concept SportE 2 How Smart Metering Provides the capability for owners and managers to understand d how energy is being consumed by the facility. If we want to make better energy management decisions then better information is required. To have and make use of this type of information the following are required: a sensor network, communication capabilities, a database, data processing, data management, and a way to access and interact with the information. SportE 2 When Integrated t dcontrol Provides facilities with integrated control capabilities. In specific, this module will provide the software, hardware, and user interface that enables the control and management of lighting, g heating, cooling, indoor air quality and ventilation, cogeneration, and renewable energy production. Paired with the How Module, it becomes possible to enact energy management decisions from a centralised location when there is a data supported reason to do so.

8 Concept SportE 2 Why Optimisation i i Given smart metering data and the ability to control facility energy flows, it becomes possible to execute optimal energy management decisions. Over time and as data is collected, the Why Module will learn how a facility is operating, why current practices are not optimal, and what control actions will lead to energy savings, looking at energy prices, weather forecasting, and the planned facility usage. SportE 2 Where Multi Facility ili Management Many stakeholders own or manage more than one facility or perhaps a complex is made of multiple buildings. For these users, the Where Module will provide a multi facility management tool that will collect, analyse, and display energy demands, consumption, production, and grid exchange across multiple facilities against common metrics (e.g. kwh/m, /m, kg CO2, etc).

9 Results How SportE 2 will make an IMPACT By opening a market for ICT based customized solutions integrating numerous products from different vendors and offering services from design of integrated systems to the operation and maintenance phases. A small privately owned facility 2. A public, medium sized complex run by an energy management company 3. A large public/private facility at a school with olympic sized pool with ESCO under contract

14 Pilot #1: Santa Maria de Lamas, Portugal (SELF) Olympic Pool (indoor) size: 50m x 25m, depth: 1,20 to 1,80,, Capacity: 1650m3 Learning Pool (indoor) size: 20m x 6 m, depth: 1,1m, Capacity: 132 m3 2 Gyms (indoor) with one provided of electric equipment (electric bicycles, etc ) Water Heating for pools and showers Air Heating for large environments Electric Energy for indoor/outdoor lighting and electric equipment

15 Pilot #1: Santa Maria de Lamas, Portugal (SELF) 2 boilers fuelled with natural gas (1070KW each) Co Generation System fuelled with natural gas (130KW) Solar Thermal Panels with total area of 32m2 (annual production of KWh) According to the Portuguese legislation applied to these specific case (Co Generation Production and Selling) it has been determined that it can be injected to the electric grid a total of 50 % of the total annual electric production. The others 50 % are for the consumption of the installation in study.

Actually this ability is not used for economic and contractual reason but it is possible to re activate this energy exchange as soon the Italian regulation will return convenient
