This guide contains the necessary forms and information for viewing and participating in the program, and obtaining continuing education credit for your attendees. For this program, you will only need the following: The AARC Current Topics in Respiratory Care DVD (Viewable from PC or MAC DVD drive, or from a DVD Player) Access to the AARC website which contains the downloadable materials in the chart below Proctor Guide Course Materials Attendance Log & Certificate Contains: Contains: Attendance Log (Excel ) Proctor Information Slide Handouts PDFs of the: Test Answer Key Test for Attendees Certificate of Completion Evaluation Worksheets Evaluation for Attendees Attendance Log Manual Sign-in Sheet All course materials and access to the proctor survey are online at: c.aarc.org/go/ct15 CRCE (Continuing Respiratory Care Education) Accreditation This program has been approved for one Non-Traditional CRCE contact hour by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC). 3 PROCTOR/SITE COORDINATOR INSTRUCTIONS For participants to take advantage of the CRCE credit offered for this program, they must: View the program on the DVD Pass the test Complete the Attendance and CRCE log o AARC Members must enter their AARC Member Number on the log Then the Proctor/Site Coordinator must return the attendance logs to AARC. Timely return of attendance logs is important to ensure that participants are assured of up-to-date transcripts from the AARC. Submit logs within 60 days after a participant completes the course. This may require that several logs for the same course be submitted during the calendar year. Please read the instructions below for more details. You will also need to access the following website: c.aarc.org/go/ct15 UBEFORE YOU BEGIN: Download the Course Materials PDF from the website and make a copy for each participant. Download the Attendance Log (Microsoft Excel ) from the website. You will need this log to report attendance to AARC so that CRCE credits can be recorded for your AARC members. A manual Attendance Log is also available for download from the website that you can use it as a sign-in sheet if desired. o Enter the subscribing site, city and state, and proctor or site coordinator s name. Download the Certificate of Completion from the website and make a copy for each participant who completes the requirements of this course. NOTE: The certificate is a PDF form so you may type the attendee name, date, site and proctor name on your computer screen before printing. NOTE: The Attendance & CRCE Log and its corresponding course number are specific to the calendar year in which the program is presented. Be sure you have the copies for the current year to insure proper credit. UAT COURSE PRESENTATION: Distribute the Course Materials copies to the participants and present the video. Administer the Test and the Attendee Evaluations. Complete the Attendance & CRCE Log. o o Be sure to enter the subscribing site, city and state, and proctor or site coordinator's name. List all those completing the course regardless of AARC membership status. AARC members must enter their membership numbers in order for the CRCE system to track their continuing education activities. Please note that the AARC s CRCE system will only track continuing education activities for its active and associate members. Use only AARC member numbers. Do not use Social Security, state license, or state affiliate numbers. Supply Certificates of Completion to all participants who pass the test. Student members and non-aarc members may use these as verification of attendance. IMPORTANT! It is the proctor/site coordinator's responsibility to assure that everyone listed on the Attendance & CRCE Log has met the criteria for continuing education credit. UFOLLOWING THE COURSE PRESENTATION: Keep a copy of the log for your records. This copy should be maintained for 5 years. Using the Attendance & CRCE Log provided, return a report at least every 60 days of those completing the course. Please do not send duplicate information. Send a copy of the completed Attendance & CRCE Log spreadsheet to the AARC CRCE Coordinator via at crce@aarc.org. Contact information is also listed at the top of the log. If you do not have spreadsheet software, fax the manual log to the attention of the CRCE Coordinator at NOTE: Please Udo not sendu the completed test or evaluation forms. They are for your records only. When all participants have completed the program and you have reviewed their evaluations, please go to: c.aarc.org/go/ct15 and complete the Online Evaluation. 6 TEST ANSWER KEY 7 Correct Out of 10 is Passing 1. The measurement of Vd/Vt during mechanical ventilation is a signifier of lung overdistension. True 2. Volumetric capnography, though an advancement in capnography, failed to eliminate the compression volume problem. False volumetric capnography does eliminate the compression volume problem. 3. Phase II of capnography is reflective of gas diffusion. False phase II reflects bulk gas flow. 4. It is better to perform measurements with a clean cuvette, removing condensate. True 5. The respiratory therapist notes that there is a loss of inflection point on the capnography curve at the junction of Phase II and Phase III. This could be caused by high alveolar deadspace. True 6. An open lung approach is a safe and consistent strategy for alveolar recruitment. False the results can be variable and the evidence does not support the safety of this approach. 7. The evidence does not support the use of PEEP over 10 cm H2O in ARDS. False the evidence supports up to 20cm H2O in ARDS, though over 20cm H2O is seldom necessary. 8. PEEP can reduce preload and afterload, when applied appropriately. True 9. An incremental PEEP titration can be useful in improving oxygenation. True 10.
