3 Leadership Mr. Scott K. Cowart Superintendent The Carroll County School System is the 24th largest school system in the state of Georgia and is home to approximately 14,400 students. The school system is made up of 12 elementary schools, six middle schools, five high schools, a charter College and Career Academy, and an Alternative program. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI) have named Carroll County Schools a SACS district accredited school system Carroll County Schools strive to work with students, staff, parents and community in a unified effort to ensure the success of our students. The focal point of this work rests on the Mission and Vision which serves as the guide for our school system. Our Mission states We will provide a premier learning environment, placing students first through quality and excellence. Our Vision maintains, We will be valued as a premier learning environment, offering exceptional opportunities to all students. By partnering together with students, parents, staff and community, we will build strong mutual ties that continue to achieve the educational mission and vision of our school system. Our commitment to becoming a premier school system leads us to focus on the quality of educational opportunities we provide for our students. This focus speaks to the importance of the school system providing all students with the opportunity to learn, grow and succeed. We want to make sure every Carroll County student graduates on time with skills that will help them lead a successful life. To do this we must commit to providing students quality opportunities at all levels and in all programs. By working together as one big team focused on quality opportunities, we can provide a premier learning environment that will help all students succeed. We have much to be proud of regarding Carroll County Schools. The school system continues to see academic improvement across the school district and in all grade levels. We also continue to see increased academic opportunities for students as the access to technology increases, through increased dual enrollment with post secondary institutions and greater emphasis on science, math and technology across the system. We continue to see increased partnerships with our efforts to improve the quality of the school system. This past year we logged over 57,000 volunteer hours in our schools, worked with over 450 community/business partners and added another cutting edge community partnership with the addition of the Tanner Connections health career partnership with Tanner Medical System. We are proud of the fact that in spite of the difficult economic times we face, the school system is still able to provide a community based school approach for our students. We are focused from the board room to the classroom on continuous improvement of each school and the district. The Carroll County Board of Education is composed of seven members elected by voters in seven different districts. The elected board members serve a four year term. Every two years an election is held. Four Members are elected for a four year term in districts and two years later, three members are elected in the other districts. The Chairman and Vice Chairman are elected each January by the board members. The Board of Education meets twice a month. Regular Board Meetings are held on the third Thursday of every month with the Work Session/Board Meeting held each Monday prior to the Regular Board Meeting. Regular Board Meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. and Work Session/Board Meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. There are some exceptions to the schedule of the board meeting calendar due to holidays, etc. A board meeting calendar is posted at the Carroll County Board of Education and on the Carroll County Schools website.
