Superintendent s Report SY Year End Summary Dr. Valya S. Lee Superintendent of Schools
One Team One Direction Full Speed Ahead SY
CCRPI LCSS students are showing gains LCSS students are beating the state average every year
GKIDS Percent Meets/Exceeds Standards
CRCT Elementary and middle school students showed gains from 2013 in 18 out of the 30 scored content areas Met or exceeded state averages in 19 out of the 30 scored content areas Met or exceeded state averages in Reading at every level
EOCT Meeting or exceeding state averages in every category except the two math content areas: Analytic Geometry and Coordinate Algebra Spring 2014 results show that our US History scores fell short of state averages
Student Growth Percentiles Student Growth Percentiles at the high school level are measured on the EOCT and reported for each subject LCSS students met or exceeded the state growth percentiles in 15 of the 18 categories
CTAE Pass Rate The CTAE pass rate for LCSS jumped from 43% in 2013 to 61% in 2014 The number and percent of End of Pathway Completers have both risen over the past three years with 2014 showing the greatest gain.
English Language Learners Overall composite scores on the state assessment, ACCESS, show the greatest number of LCSS students scoring at Level 6
STEM There has been a strong STEM initiative throughout the Liberty County School System Six schools are currently seeking STEM certification Partnering with Georgia Southern University to integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics into real-world, problem-based research opportunities Students working with teachers and professors will have an opportunity to make contributions to real world challenges such as coastal erosion, sea level rise, and recycling
LCSS was awarded a state grant for Project RAMP The State Board of Education approved a Math and Science Partnership (MSP) Program with Georgia Southern University The state funded 23 projects totaling $6,386, Liberty County was funded $283, for the school year
National Math & Science Initiative (NMSI) Both high schools received the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI), Advanced Placement(AP) program for military families for the school year The addition of LCHS was made possible by a $504,909 grant from Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) NMSI s AP program for military families is currently in 71 schools in 18 states
Button Gwinnett Elementary Title I Highest Progress School Among the top 10% of Title I schools in the state to make the most progress in improving their performance over three years on the statewide assessments
Project ESCOLAR LCSS teamed with Georgia Southern University for a Science Learning initiative The goal of Project ESCOLAR is to improve science learning in middle school through appropriate, relevant, and effective Collaborative Online Learning Units.
Full STEAM Ahead: Camp Rock! Georgia Tech teamed with Liberty Elementary for a STEAM summer camp in July 2014 STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Math)
Balanced Assessment Continuum Students at all grade levels are assessed both formatively and summatively
Reading Comprehension Student test scores and CCRPI scores indicate that reading comprehension of grade level material is an area of need. All teachers (K-12) have been trained in Thinking Maps, a visual organization tool that allows students to structure their thinking as well as 6 Traits of Writing. This twopronged approach to written expression has strengthened students abilities to process what they are reading. Transition classes as well as the Read180 program have been utilized at both high schools to help struggling students get caught up. As a result of these focused efforts, retention statistics are declining.
RESSLA The development of RESSLA, Retired Educators Supporting Student Learning and Achievement, has created an avenue for LCSS to tap into the expertise of our retired educators These educators came back part time to work with students in reading and mathematics Students have made many gains as a result of this project
Dual Enrollment LCSS kicked off a campaign this past fall to increase the Dual Enrollment opportunities offered to high school students Students can take courses at both Savannah Technical College and Armstrong State University and receive college credit for those classes Students have made many gains as a result of this project
