We hosted Marcelo Acosta from Armstrong Fluid Technology and his discussion on factory controls was great. In addition to our technical meeting in October, we held our 3 rd Annual Clay shoot at Coyote Clays in Morgan Hill. This event was co-hosted with the Golden Gate Chapter and the local Association for Facilities Engineering (AFE) Chapter. We had the largest turnout to date and exceeded 80 participants. A big thank you to Justin Libay and his crew of volunteers for organizing the event. Our next Board of Governors (BOG) will be at 4:30 pm on Nov. 11 th (just before the technical meeting). All members are welcome to attend. We are always looking for new volunteers, committee members, and committee vice chairs. If you are interested in volunteering and getting more involved, please send me a note at john.wagner@trane.com. The San Jose Chapter would like to thank Alicia Wolfe for her service as Research Promotion co-chair. Alicia, your energy and exciting personality will be missed. We are looking to assist our RP co-chair Matt Pacione with the RP committee duties. Please reach out to me or Matt at mpacione@holder.com if you are interested. Please continue to provide our Chapter Transfer Technology Committee (CTTC) Chair, Bill Schoening, and President Elect, Jai Jayaraj, with fresh and informative technical program ideas for this year. Check out the Meetings and Events tab on our newly refreshed website at November is going to be a very exciting month and also Student Night. We are blessed to have several guests at the technical meeting on Nov. 11 th. Our speaker will be Distinguished Lecturer (DL) and ASHRAE Society Vice President, Charles Gulledge. Chuck hales from Greensboro, NC and visits us from Region IV and the Southern Piedmont Chapter. He will be speaking on Integrated Building Design as part of the ASHRAE DL program. In addition to Chuck, we will have many Regional guests. These guests include Region X Director Regional Chair (DRC) Karine Leblanc, Region X Student ActivitiesRegional Vice Chair (RVC) Adam Davis, and Region X Research Promotion RVC Zberri Alvi. The list of visitors does not end there. Cal Poly SLO, San Jose State, and Santa Clara student ASHRAE members will be attending and looking to network within our chapter. Please help the chapter by sponsoring a student on Student Night. Join us for our November meeting and student night on November 11, 2015 at the Biltmore Hotel. Details to follow. 5 11 THE GUIDE POST NOVEMBER 2015 Issue 3 5 MESSAGES FROM OUR CHAPTER COMMITTEE HISTORIAN Hi, my name is Elise Kiland and I am the new ASHRAE Historian. I graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly SLO in June 2014 and have been working as a Project Engineer for Critchfield Mechanical in San Jose. As part of my position, I will be documenting all of our events, so don t be alarmed if I come around taking pictures! If you take any pictures at ASHRAE events, I would love to have them to include in the monthly newsletter. You can send them to me at ekiland@cmihvac.com. I m looking forward to working with all of you this year! ELISE KILAND, HISTORIAN STUDENT ACTIVITIES SARGON ISHAYA, STUDENT ACTIVITIES CHAIR This Veteran s Day is an exciting one for us not only because we have a chance to honor those who served our country, but also because we have our Student Night on that evening. The chapter advisors at Cal Poly, Santa Clara University, and San Jose State Universities are all working on getting their respective students to attend the dinner meeting. The San Jose State Section is especially active this year. We have two teams entering the ASHRAE Design Competition as well as one team entering the Mechanical Contractor s Association (MCA) Northern California Student Competition. Other good news on the San Jose State front includes the fact that Dr. Nicole Okamoto, a supporter and former advisor to the student ASHRAE chapter, has now been elected as the Mechanical Engineering Department Chair and we are optimistic that this might translate into more opportunities to introduce future engineers to the building sciences. The local chapter is also graciously considering an increase in quantity and value of the student scholarship so I will be presenting this to mechanical engineering students in early 2016 which will hopefully generate even more interest in ASHRAE for junior level student.

Members are welcome to invite colleagues, business partners and clients who they believe will benefit from joining or attending ASHRAE meetings.
