1 Children s Tylenol National Child Care Teacher Awards Scope: an awards program that is designed to acknowledge the critical role of childcare teachers in providing high quality child care. Funds: Fifty award recipients will receive awards of $1,000 each $500 to acknowledge their special dedication and $500 for a classroom enhancement project designed as part of the application process. The top ten qualifiers become finalists for the Helene Marks Award for the National Child Care Teacher of the Year. The teacher chosen as the Helene Marks Award recipient will receive an additional $1,000 award. Grant related studies may be carried out using any research method or approach so long as the focus is on reading/writing or literacy. Funds: $1,000 $10,000 Deadline: January 31st, 2016 Website: us.php NEA Foundation Learning Leaderships Grant Program Scope: The program provides support to public school teachers, public education support professionals, and/or faculty and staff in public institutions of higher education through grants to individuals in support of their participation in high quality professional development experiences such as summer institutes or action research; or grants to groups in support of collegial study, including study groups, action research, lesson study, or mentoring experiences for faculty or staff new to an assignment. It acts to inform the public about its cause and prevention and provide funding to optimize the impact and success of community organizations that promote running and healthy lifestyle programs for youth. 2 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards Scope: The National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award is the Nation's highest honor for out of school arts and humanities programs that celebrate the creativity of America's young people, particularly those from underserved communities. This award recognizes and supports excellence in programs that open new pathways to learning, self discovery, and achievement. Funds: Recipients receive a $10,000 grant and the opportunity to visit the White House and accept the award from First Lady Michelle Obama. Website: Lowe s Toolbox for Education Grants Scope: To support parks and playgrounds and organizations involved with K 12 education, environmental beautification, environmental education, home safety, and community development. Funds: $2000 $5000 Deadline: February 12th, Website: Economics Education Grant Scope: the Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation has an abiding interest in elevating the nation's understanding of the need for economic education. It will support programs that: raise various public's participation in economic education and/or create a demand for greater economic literacy; The application of new strategies for teaching economics including on line and web based instruction is of interest to the Foundation; and The large number of students at risk of leaving school, and hence never effectively participating in the nation s economic system are of concern to the Foundation. Programs that help otherwise disenfranchised youth and/or young adults with children learn to participate in the economic system are very important to the Foundation. The After School Grants Project focuses on programs that: Improve academic achievement of students; Increase students self esteem through skill development activities rather than free play time; Reinforce basic social skills such as cooperation, team building and conflict resolution to help youth begin to develop workplace competencies; Focus on activities such as mentoring, tutoring, literacy education, music and art lessons, computer instruction and homework help; Encourage and develop partnerships between home, schools and the community; Are financially accessible with no or very low participation fees; Provide a safe environment; and Assist at risk or underserved communities. 3 Classroom Grants from Association of American Educators Scope: Classroom grants can be used for a variety of projects and materials, including but not limited to books, software, calculators, math manipulatives, art supplies, audio visual equipment, and lab materials. Classroom grants are available to all educators Funds: $500 Deadline: March 1st, Website: grant application InvenTeam Initiative To Cultivate High School Creativity Scope: Created by the Lemelson MIT Program, the InvenTeam initiative provides opportunities for high school students to cultivate their creativity, curiosity, and problem solving abilities and apply lessons from science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects to invent technological solutions to real world problems. Projects can range from an assistive device to an environmental technology and to a consumer good. Applicants are encouraged to consider the needs of the world's poorest people those earning $2 or less a day. Funds: $10,000 Deadline: March 17, Website: Ezra Jack Keats Foundation Mini Grants Scope: Educators to create special activities outside the standard curriculum and make time to encourage their students. Projects funded in the past include murals, pen pal groups, quilts, theater productions, newspapers and other publications, intergenerational activities, and programs that bring disparate communities together. Starting in 2015, mini grants from the foundation will also fund programs that support the CCSS. 4 ROLLING GRANTS Grant opportunities throughout the year Athletic Equipment Grants Through Good Sports Scope: provides sports equipment, apparel, and footwear to youth organizations offering sports, fitness, and recreational programs to youth in need. Funds: Up to 1,500 over a 2 year period Website: Instrument Grants from Classics for Kids Foundation Scope: Classics for Kids Foundation offers matching grants toward the purchase of high quality stringed instruments and mentoring to nonprofit music programs serving young people grades Deadline: March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31 Website: for a grant/ Karma for Cara Foundation Invites Applications for Youth Microgrants Scope: as part of an effort to promote and support youth voluntarism, k4c started a microgrant program in fall 2014 to encourage kids 18 and under to apply for a grant of between $250 and $1,000 to complete service projects in their communities. Examples of fundable projects include but are not limited to turning a vacant lot into a community garden, rebuilding a school playground, and helping senior citizens get their homes ready for winter. Grants will be distributed as gift cards to home goods stores, office supply stores, grocery food chains, and toy stores. Funds: Not stated, but recommends that requests of $400 and under have a higher likelihood of being funded. Website: Free Books and Supplies for K 2 Students Scope: Every week Wilbooks will donate at least 20,000 books to K 2 children all across the country. The books are free and there is no charge for shipping and handling. Applications can only be for one classroom and all applications are considered on a first come, first serve basis. 5 Air Force Junior ROTC Grant Scope: The AFA is seeking K 12 teachers who wish to enhance student knowledge of how aerospace plays a prominent role in today and tomorrow s society. Funds may be used for purchasing textbooks or videotapes, going on a field trip to an aerospace museum, Air Force base, other aerospace facility, and more. Funds: $250 Website: Share Our Strength Grants Scope: For schools involved in anti hunger issues, increasing the availability of school breakfast through alternative models such as in classroom breakfast and grab n go breakfasts, and increasing access to afterschool snack and meal programs. Funds: $5,000 $10,000 Website: investments The Education Portal.com Teacher Grant Scope: Education Portal.com has a growing library of 500 free video lessons and quizzes. Their lessons are created by subject matter experts and professional educators and are completely free and available for teachers to use as a supplemental classroom resource. Teachers may use the videos to increase student engagement, differentiate instruction, and reinforce concepts. Funds: The Education Portal.com Teacher Grant provides 2 grants of $500 per month to prek 12 teachers who creatively and effectively incorporate Education Portal.com's free online video lessons into their curriculum to improve student engagement and comprehension.
