2 The VDMA (German Engineering Federation) Federation The VDMA (German Engineering Federation) represents more than 3,100 mainly small and medium size member companies in the engineering industry, making it one of the largest and most important industrial associations in Europe. Mechanical engineering is a key technology and a powerful engine driving the economy. Accounting for sales of billion Euros (2013) and 986,000 employees (2013), mechanical engineering is one of the largest industrial sectors and employers in Germany. The products and services of the engineering industry are highly regarded worldwide. Roughly two thirds of German production is exported. The VDMA covers the entire process chain, everything from components and plant manufacturers, system suppliers and system integrators through to service providers. We reflect the varied customer-supplier relations all along the value adding chain, permitting both industry-specific and intra-industry cooperation. Representation The VDMA lends a powerful voice to the views of its members both on the national and international level. 3 Air Handling Technology Association Association At VDMA, Air Handling Technology Association is a collective term of product groups and processes which focus on routing, treating and moving air. The product range includes the manufacture of components as well as the creation of highly specific, complex systems engineering. Air handling, together with the sectors Air Conditioning and Ventilation Technology Air Pollution Control Drying Technology Refrigeration and Heat Pump Technology Surface Technology are typical cross-sectional technologies used in a variety of customer industries. Their areas of application range from comfort air conditioning, providing process air in a variety of industries, various surface technology processes through to industrial plants for air pollution control. Air handling has frequently played a key role for industrial processes, similar to cleanroom technology for chip production or micro- and nanotechnologies. Customers come from all areas of industry, including infrastructure, real estate and particularly from the manu facturing sector, and quite often from mechanical engineering. Companies active in air handling technology employ approximately 60,000 people in Germany. The total turnover in 2013 exceeded 12.7 billion Euros. The VDMA Air Handling Technology represents the interest of 271 members. This is equivalent to about half of all companies in the sector in Germany. In terms of economic performance, air handling technology is one of the most important mechanical engineering industries. Its suppliers represent 6.5 % (2013) of the production volume of the entire mechanical engineering industry and it is ranked fourth of the 40 VDMA associations. 4 Air Conditioning and Ventilation Technology Technology The Air Conditioning and Ventilation Technology, a cross-sector technology with problem-solving expertise, ranks prominently among the innovative and pioneering highly export-oriented business sectors of the economy. The enterprises manufacture ventilation systems, components and modules. A multitude of product-related services such as maintenance complete their portfolio. A considerable number of enterprises are active in the field of building and facility management, offering services as contractors. Air Conditioning and Ventilation Technology constitutes economically the strongest and therefore most important sector within the Air Handling Technology Association. Complying with the high demands of clients and users, air conditioning and ventilation related components, modules and erected systems are subject to persisted technological improvements. High quality and energy efficiency are essential factors for success. In this way, ventilation technology makes important contributions to environmental protection. These products play an important role in the areas of safety and health protection. The products and systems manufactured are supplied to various markets, e.g. industry, trade, transportation, residential and non-residential sectors. For that, efficient and well-proven products are at customers disposal. Investments into research and development present the enterprises with continuous technical improvement. Participation in standardisation stimulates not only the creation of innovative technologies and solutions; and likewise a tool for shaping the markets. 5 The Air Conditioning and Ventilation Technology section Represents the joint economic and technical interests of its members towards government offices, associations and the interested public, on national, European and international levels Promotes cross-disciplinary dialogue and exchange of experiences among its members Engages in public relation Offers sector-specific information Organizes the preparation of statistics and market analysis Pursues trade fair policy Engages in the area of standardisation and establishment of regulations. The head of the technical department is in personal union also in charge of the Working Group Instandhaltung Gebäudetechnik (AIG) (Maintenance Building Technology) Technical department Air Handling Technology within the Standards Committee (NAM) of the DIN (German Institute of Standardisation) and contributes to the European manufacturers association EUROVENT, the European Committee of the Manufactures of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Machines and Systems. All activities are responded to the needs of the members to aim a knowledge lead, enabling the enterprises to act effectively and successfully among their competitors.

6 Refrigeration and Heat Pump Technology Technology Within the Refrigeration and Heat Pump Technology section, manufacturers of components and accessories are being organised. They offer globally all well-known refrigerating processes. They put special emphasis on environmentally friendly and sustainable refrigeration technology. Therefore, they support especially in the development of alternative technologies, aiming at successful contributions for the realisation of the EU climate protection goals. Special emphasis is being put on environmentally friendly and sustainable refrigeration technologies. Therefore, the topics energy efficiency and refrigeration agents have in the previous year's substantially determined the activities of the specialised section of Refrigeration and Heat Pumps. The development of systemic approaches to the topics of energy efficiency and climate protection has been one of the focal points of its work. The enterprises offer technically feasible solutions, which sup port the significant reduction of emissions of fluorinated greenhouse gases. In view of the wide range of offered products, the technological leadership in many areas and its staff potential, the Refrigeration and Heat Pump Technology sector belongs to those economic fields having a great future potential within the global competition and hence of great importance for German economy. 7 Eurovent Eurovent Eurovent, the European Committee of HVAC&R Manufacturers, is the representative of Europe s major national associations in the industry of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration. Based on objective and verifiable data, its 20 members from 18 European states represent more than 1,000 companies, the majority small and medium-sized. In 2013, these accounted for a combined annual turnover of around 21 billion Euros and employed more than 120,000 people making Eurovent one of the largest industry committees of its kind. Eurovent s roots date back to Over the years, the Brussels-based umbrella association has become a well-respected and known stakeholder that builds bridges between companies it represents, legislators and standardisation bodies on an EU and international level. The association favours a level-playing field for the entire industry and strongly supports energy-efficient and environmental-friendly solutions. Eurovent holds in-depth relations with partner associations around the globe. It is a founding member of the ICARHMA network, supporter of REHVA and contributor to the EU s BUILD UP initiative. Eurovent possesses two subunits. With Eurovent Certita Certification (ECC), it majority owns an independent certification company, which holds the ISO (17065) accreditation fulfilling highest independency, reliability and integrity standards. Open to any company, it is known for its globally-recognised brand Eurovent Certified Performance. Activities are complemented by Eurovent Market Intelligence (EMI), the association s second independent unit. Its Europe-wide data sets are frequently being used to support the development of EU regulation.
