1 Before You Begin Please complete the following checklist before upgrading your D-Link firmware. 1. Confirm that you have a Model DI-604 or DI-624 D-Link router. The model number is on the right side of the front panel. 2. Verify that your D-Link router is connected to the Fios network. An Ethernet cable should be connected to the WAN jack on the back of your router and the Ethernet jack on the wall. 3. Your D-Link router must be connected to your computer using an Ethernet cable. Do not attempt to upgrade the firmware over a wireless connection. If you have a wireless network, you will need to use one of the Ethernet cables supplied with your original installation kit to connect your computer to the router. 4. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable (yellow in the illustration above) to any of the Ethernet jacks (1-4) on the back panel of your D-Link router.

2 5. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Network Interface Card (NIC) of your computer. 6. Disconnect or power off all other computers that are connected to the D-Link router. 7. Close all other running applications on your computer. 8. Disable your firewall. 9. Disable your pop-up blocker 10. Disable your antivirus software

3 Disabling Your Firewall Installing the D-Link firmware upgrade requires that you disable your firewall. 1. Confirm that you have a firewall running on your computer. a. Check your list of programs from the Control Panel. If you locate your firewall, open the software and check the online help for disabling instructions. Links to the instructions for disabling McAfee Personal Firewall, Norton Personal Firewall and Microsoft Internet Connection Firewall are included below. b. Consult the person who set up your computer and verify which firewall was installed. c. Check your task bar and desktop to see if any of the icons are for a firewall provider. Many of the firewall providers place an icon on your task bar or desk top for easy access to the software. 2. Disable the firewall. Information for disabling the firewalls from the top three manufacturers is listed below. Select the manufacturer of your firewall. a. McAfee Personal Firewall b. Norton Personal Firewall c. Microsoft Windows Internet Connection Firewall

4 Disabling the McAfee Personal Firewall To disable McAfee Personal Firewall (Windows XP): 1. Right-click the McAfee icon near your system clock. 2. Click Personal Firewall. 3. Click Disable. After you install the firmware update, be sure to enable your firewall so you won't leave your computer unprotected. For support on other versions of Windows, visit the McAfee Web site. Disabling the Norton Personal Firewall? To disable Norton Personal Firewall: 1. Open Norton Personal Firewall by clicking the icon on your desktop. 2. Click Status & Settings. 3. Click Security. 4. Click Turn Off. Note: Be sure to restart your firewall after you have installed the firmware upgrade by clicking Turn On. 5 Disabling the Microsoft Windows Internet Connection Firewall To disable your Windows Internet Connection fire 1. Visit your computer's Help & Support section by selecting Start in the left taskbar and then selecting Help and Support. 2. Enter firewall in the Search field and click the green arrow to begin the search. 3. Select the topic from the list for turning off your firewall. 4. After you install the D-Link firmware upgrade, be sure to enable your firewall so you won't leave your computer unprotected.
