The CORD Board can support the interaction by dedicating time and resources to the new Sharepoint site, and fostering the Annual Academic Assembly. It is also important for the President and the Board to speak with a clear voice on issues important to program directors to the organizations that effect residency programs (RRC, ABEM, etc.). I would be honored to help lead this organization if selected as President-Elect of the CORD Board of Directors. Secretary-Treasurer (1 will be elected from the slate of 2 candidates below) Program Director, Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine/Summa Health System Current Position(s): Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine, Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine/Summa Health System, Program Director, Department of Emergency Medicine, Summa Health System Medical School: The Ohio State University College of Medicine, 1979 Internship/Residency/Fellowship: Emergency Medicine Residency, Akron City Hospital Michael Beeson, MD, MBA CORD activities: Member, Board of Directors, (2003-present); Chairman, Information Resources Committee; Development of resident online testing system, (2002); Development of SharePoint Resource Repository, (2004) Other local or national activities: Member or Chair of GME Committee, SAEM, ( ); ABEM Oral Examiner; Coadvisor of NEOUCOM EMIG; Working with the SAEM Undergraduate Committee to bring online testing to medical students

2 Opinions and Priorities for CORD Board: For the last two years I have had the opportunity to serve on the CORD Board, as a member-at-large. I have had several goals in my involvement with CORD. My primary goal has been to assist the organization in the development of resources useful to all members. Examples of this include the online testing as well as the SharePoint repository. My hope in the future is to develop resources tied to the Core Competencies that all members will be able to benefit from. A second goal is to assist the organization in its growth. CORD is growing rapidly, with more residencies and Associate memberships added regularly. With growth will come increased expenses, and the need to generate additional revenue. As Secretary/Treasurer I would be in a unique position to foster and facilitate new potential sources of revenue. CORD has brought a tremendous amount of professional satisfaction to me. The resources that CORD has developed have assisted me numerous times in my own residency. I would like to be able to give back to the organization, and an officer position would allow that. Title/Current Position: Associate Program Director and Director of Education, MetroHealth Medical Center; Professor of Emergency Medicine, Case Western Reserve University Medical School: University of Minnesota, 1980 Internship/Residency: Hennepin County Medical Center, Transitional Internship, ; Truman Medical Center/University of Missouri at Kansas City, Emergency Medicine Residency, Lou Binder, MD CORD activities: Representative to Core Content Task Force #2 (creation of the Model of the Clinical Practice of Emergency Medicine), ( ); Representative to Model Review/Revision, (2003 and 2005); Task Force on Learning Disabilities, ( ); Best Practices Task Force, ( ); Board of Directors, Member at Large, ( ). Other local or national activities: Assistant Dean for Medical Education, Texas Tech University HSC- El Paso; Associate Dean for Academic Student Affairs, UIC College of Medicine; Member, RRC-EM; Multiple Leadership and Educational Leadership roles in SAEM; ABEM-Oral Examiner; Liaison Committee on Medical Education - Faculty Fellow; AMA-CWRU Representative to the Section on Medical Schools; Harvard Macy Scholars Program Participant; AAMC-Group on Student Affairs and Group on Educational Affairs; Currently completing Master's in Education Degree from Case Western and John Carroll University Opinions and Priorities for CORD Board: I am, in many ways, a unique candidate for a leadership position within CORD, based upon the breadth of my educational and leadership experiences (SAEM leadership and consultation service, CORD, RRC-EM, AMA Section on Medical Schools, AAMC Group on Student Affairs, Liaison Committee on Medical Education, and others). In addition, I have assumed institutional leadership roles in medical education at both my previous and current institutions, including undergraduate education (admissions, student affairs, and undergraduate curriculum) and graduate medical education (Designated Institutional Official, Associate EM program director). These contacts, information, and multifaceted perspectives have been useful to CORD across multiple issues, and would be even more valuable in a leadership position. One of my priorities is to continue to strengthen the relationship between CORD and the RRC-EM, by virtue of my simultaneous involvement in both organizations. Over my tenure so far, this communication and leadership have been helpful during a time of program requirement revision, implementation of duty hours requirements, and the implementation of practical ways for programs to meet the ACGME general competencies. Other priorities that I advocate include the continuing development of tools for program operation, curriculum development, competency documentation, etc.; ongoing high quality plenary educational sessions for our members; better integration of EMARC into CORD and its ongoing activities; and advocacy for emergency medicine training in situations where the importance and value of residency training is overlooked (i.e. specific institutions, medical licensure boards, critical care access and certification opportunities for EM residents, ABEM for formative use of residents' certification scores).

CORD is unique in that it is an organization that truly supports its membership in meaningful and helpful ways. This has been demonstrated by the effort CORD has made to help standardize methods to teach and evaluate the ACGME Core Competencies. Further communication with the RRC to help streamline the review of programs should continue. SharePoint is another excellent source of information that CORD has provided to its members. Areas I would like to help CORD move forward with are: Continue to build communication between CORD, the ACGME, and RRC's; Better organize the SharePoint information so that programs can access desired information in a more efficient manner; Form a task force to derive guidelines for medical students with regard to the interview process (information, plus ethics with regard to applications, canceling interviews, etc.); Form a task force to explore methods by which program directors can better understand/communicate with a new generation of residents (bridging the generation gap); Form a task force to explore ways to motivate students/residents to choose academic careers. (We need to better understand our residents and help build the next generation of academic emergency medicine physicians.)
