4 4 9 Coastal Engineering Dredging Capital improvement and maintenance dredging, as well as land reclamation and beach nourishment projects, are essential to maintaining the delicate balance between the preservation of the natural environment and the necessary development of industry and society as a whole. Successful development of these projects requires a multidisciplinary approach that includes project conceptualization, alternatives analysis, sediment characterization and suitability analysis, permitting, construction management, and monitoring. Sea levels have rising over the last century, causing erosion and flooding impacting infrastructure, water supplies, and natural resources.
