5 Hindustan University sign MoA with L.V.Prasad Academy Hindustan University recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with L V Prasad Film & TV Academy for its MBA course in Media and Entertainment as an Academic Partner. Hindustan University and L.V.Prasad Film & TV Academy with a mutual vision to add value to the Media & Entertainment industry and the student community, have come together to provide their expertise to students of management. L V Prasad Film & TV Academy will be providing academic training, infrastructure and networking links with the industry to fulfil the educational needs of the students. Frame-by-Frame Workshop at Thiruvananthapuram A week long Frame-by-Frame Workshop was conducted at L.V.Prasad Film & TV Academy in the 2nd week of November for students from College of Fine Arts, Thiruvananthapuram. The students were from painting, sculpture, and applied arts disciplines. Five different kinds of animation were practiced such as cell animation, cut-out animation, object animation, time-lapse animation and drawing on film footage. Each student made an individual film of one-minute duration, which were edited and provided music and sound at the academy studio. The programme was guided by Sri. Minesh, well known animator and sculptor whose animation film OFF FISH AND TALES was a ground-breaking work in Kerala. New Academic Year commences at L.V.Prasad Academy The current Academic Year of L.V.Prasad Film & TV Academy commenced on 15th August 2014 with the hoisting of the National Flag by Sai Prasad, Director, Prasad Group. On popular demand the number of student intake was increased to nearly double the capacity. L.V.Prasad Film & TV Academy has made elaborate arrangements to upgrade and ramp up the infrastructure and faculty to cater to the increased number of students. Additionally the Academy has also opened a state-of-the-art campus in Thiruvananthapuram. Vijay Baba, Colourist in several films including Linga, demonstrated the aesthetic and careful use of all shades of the colour palette in film editing and their effective use in film post production for the Editing & Sound Design students on January 9th 2015

6 1st Weekend course in Digital Film Making at Thiruvananthapuram - Convocation Day This 3-month course was conceived as an occasion to learn the basics of filmmaking with digital equipments. There were 6 weekends of classes in the first two months and the 3rd month was for production of a short film of 5 minutes duration. Intense hands-on training was given with necessary theoretical inputs on various aspects of filmmaking. Cuts and transitions - An Editing Workshop Music and Moods - A Music Composing Workshop Leading Editor of the neo realistic Tamil films such as Myna, Kumki, Kayal and Yazh. Mr. LVK Das conducted an editing workshop covering issues of editing for narration, smooth and appropriate transitions and editing aesthetics for the Editing & Sound Design students on January 8th Documentary filmmaker Chethan Shah s film Kahani Karuna Ki was screened on January 19th at the Academy auditorium and was followed by an interaction with the filmmaker. A discussion on the choice of incorporating stylized action sequences in a documentary on passive euthanasia of terminally ill patients and the challenges of filming a subject who cannot speak or give testimony was conducted. Strains of music and a lot of excitement filled the Academy Auditorium on January 20th and 21st 2015 as Mr. Shyam Benjamin, upcoming young music director of Kalavu Thozhirchalai and Kanavu Veeriyam conducted a music composing workshop for Direction and Editing & Sound Design students at the Academy. Over the course of two days, he shared his experiences in interacting with Directors and Sound recordists while composing music. He explained the nuances of Music genres, emotions, storytelling and the role of music in narrative. The students pitched a concept and he composed the tracks.

7 Kumar Shahani s Guest Lecture at Prasad Academy, Chennai November 13, 2014 was a red letter day for the Students of L.V.Prasad Film & TV Academy. Internationally acclaimed Indian Filmmaker Kumar Shahani was a special invitee. Mr. Venkatesh Chakravarthy, Regional Director, LVPA, introduced some of Kumar Shahani s pioneering works, underlined the contribution and vision of Mr. Shahani to Indian New Wave Cinema and the relevance of his work even today. Mr. Sivarman - Technical Head, Film Lab Operations reminisced about his first grading project that happened to be Kumar Shahani s Maya Darpan and the pleasure of working with Mr. Shahani particularly his demanding requests on color grading highlighting the importance of such meticulous detail in cinematic work. Mr. Shahani then addressed the gathering of faculty, staff and students requesting them to advise him on what to speak. The response was instantaneous and questions flowed from Faculty and students in quick succession. He spoke on a wide range of subjects including the gaze, objectification, the need to develop a sensitivity and aesthetic sensibility. He exhorted the students to have clarity of purpose, surety of messages or plots and diligence in using cinematic grammar and language judiciously while always being aware of context, sub text and the power of metaphors. He was accompanied by Filmmaker M R Rajan who made the Documentary When the bird became a wave, a journey with Kumar Shahani in Kerala. Its screening brought Mr. Shahani to Chennai. Interaction with Shyamaprasad at Prasad Academy, Thiruvananthapuram National Award winning Director Mr. Shyamaprasad visited L.V.Prasad Film & TV Academy, Thiruvananthapuram campus and interacted with students. He is a three time National Award winner for the films Agnisakshi, Akale and Ore Kadal. He has also won Filmfare and Kerala State Film Awards many times. His short fiction ULLURUKKAM (The Touched) based on a short story by NP Muhammed was screened at the Academy Theatre. He talked about his initiation into the world of films, about his tenure with Doordarshan in the early years of television in Kerala, about his filmmaking process, his approach to adapting literary works and other interesting topics.

8 Edutainment Awards The Edutainment Awards felicitated top Institutes providing courses on media, design, communication & entertainment based on a comprehensive evaluation and rating on select parameters to assess their performance. An eminent media educationist, Prof Ujjwal K Chowdhury is anchoring this initiative along with distinguished jury members to select the best institutes in the Advertising, PR, Journalism, Films and TV, Fashion & Design (UG and PG) fraternity. The awards ceremony was held on April 26, 2014 at the JW Marriott, Juhu with over 100 participating colleges and a jury of 20 members. L.V.Prasad Film & TV Academy was ranked as 5th in Best Film & Television Schools (National) category. Mr.J.Naidu of Prasad Group, Mumbai attended this event and received the award. Workshop with Erica Ginsberg at Prasad Academy, Chennai Erica Ginsberg, Filmmaker and Film producer based out of Washington DC and the Co-founding trustee of Docs in Progress, a nonprofit organization that facilitates documentary filmmaking visited L.V.Prasad Film & TV Academy, Chennai on November 3, She spent a day with the 2nd year Direction, Cinematography and Editing students, watched their footage, rough assembly, rough cuts and interacted with the teams. The students were enthused by her feedback and insights and were discussing ways to incorporate some of her suggestions into their final edits. She has promised to hear some pitches from the students on future projects.
