1 TV ANCHORING AND BROADCAST JOURNALISM: Course: Short term Duration: 1 Year Eligibility: Class 12 or above (Graduates will be preferred): Description: Today, television and radio broadcasting have become a very important aspect of our day-to-day lives. Yet trained manpower in the areas of TV anchoring and news-casting is hard to come by. Given that TV Channels are opening up at a phenomenal rate, trained personnel in these areas would certainly be sought after. Anchoring is not just reading the news from a teleprompter, it is also about steering a discussion, pacifying an outburst and controlling a programme. It is important to have presence of mind and a fine wit to keep situations under control. He or she has to be familiar with the technology, learn the terminology and be conversant with the medium. One also learns about communications techniques, language use, proper use of intonation, stress, pause, expression, voice modulation and accent. Who Benefits: Students who wish to become TV anchors and reporters. They can familiarize themselves with new production techniques, learn the use of teleprompter. The students are made to write their scripts and rehearse in front of the camera. This course would also benefit student who choose to enter the profession of event management and become Master of Ceremonies. The skills learnt here would help in public speaking and compering too. Course Content: The course will focus on the psychological determinants of effective communication, basic pronunciation and diction, voice modulation, camera friendliness and script writing. Students will get a grounding in Communications theory, after which they will learn to face the camera with confidence. Students will be taught different anchoring techniques. They will be taught to cover/conduct events in a variety of situations and environments such as political news coverage, celebrity events, sports, crime and entertainment events. Students will be taught to write scripts, use teleprompter, and

2 take confidence building exercises. They will be trained in diction, accent, voice and speech. Students will be encouraged to specialize one or more of these areas and will be required to take up a project in real life situations. Our USP: It is envisaged that students will be absorbed in the Television industry as well as in the events industry. Students will have hands on experience in the art and craft of TV anchoring. They will have access to excellent infrastructure and equipment. They will use practice studios to refine the skills they learn and would be given the option to buy their own cameras.
