Because we only accept up to 35 students onto our part-time Executive MBA programme every year, you will be guaranteed a true cohort experience with a peer group of fellow professionals which encourages the participation of everyone in the classroom. This means that you will share your experiences and learn from those of your peers, as well as benefit from current research and practice of our expert tutors and academics. Our Approach The Executive MBA is specifically designed to allow busy professionals to balance the demands of study with work. The programme is tailored to combine flexibility alongside maintaining the rigour of a Masters-level education, with classes scheduled over weekends and evenings. Learning takes place in our exclusive Executive Education Suite within Norwich Business School, which enables you to work alongside the MBA teaching staff who are readily accessible to support you throughout your studies. Professor Fiona Lettice Professor of Innovation Management, Fiona is an experienced academic researcher and lecturer, and a visiting Research Fellow in the School of Applied Sciences at Cranfield University with expertise in Innovation Management. Clive Francis Associate tutor who has had a successful career in business having held a variety of board level appointments, Clive holds degrees in Psychology and Manpower Studies. Dr Georgios Chrysochoidis Senior Lecturer in Marketing. Georgios work primarily concentrates on consumer choices/ decision-making within the food and the energy sectors. He also has many years experience in management of innovations especially in international operations. Dr Gideon Middleton Senior Lecturer in Business and Climate Change, Gideon s research interests include corporate responsibility and complex systems analysis. Andrea Finegan Lecturer in Finance with 20+ years experience in investment banking and investment management for European financial institutions, Andrea also continues to advise fund managers in the City of London. Peter Ellington Lecturer in Accounting, Peter has 35 years practical experience as Commercial Financial Director and Consultant across various business sectors. 6 OUR PROGRAMME Our MBA is an advanced programme for the professional who wants to accelerate their career prospects and secure a senior management position. In addition to the specialist modules, which cover all aspects of business, management and leadership, our students study the Management Consultancy Modules, which form a unique and dynamic part of our MBA experience. These challenging projects give you the opportunity to work as part of a team to solve real life business problems for local companies or organisations. Management Consultancy Projects You will also take the Management Consultancy Projects module which, in place of the more traditional dissertation, allows you to undertake two consultancy projects, which expose you to experience and skills relevant to all managers whatever their functional position. These group projects with established businesses allow you to adapt theory to help an organisation achieve its goals, developing teamwork and negotiation skills. Each consultancy activity challenges you in group dynamics, project management and working with clients in a problem solving context. These consultancy projects are significant pieces of group work which require you to undertake hours of activity within each project. Our students have the opportunity to spend a week in Prague for their first project, applying their knowledge and skills working with a large multinational company. Projects are carefully selected to ensure they address real issues which the host companies are facing. All projects matter to the hosts and due to the extended nature of the projects they result in significant outputs for host clients. This commitment to professional level consultancy, aligned to academic knowledge, has meant that we are able to offer the Chartered Management Institute Level 7 Diploma in Professional Consulting in addition to the MBA. Recent Consultancy Projects Marsh Risk Consulting A team of MBA students studied the extremes of rise and fall in stock market prices in 250 businesses over a recent five year period and correlated these with company risk events, both internal and external Shareholder value: impact of risk events and relevance of intangible assets. The students developed and negotiated a proposal to study this activity and, with regular contact and presentations delivered, met all deadlines. The client was very excited by its findings and the UK Managing Director commented: The feedback I have had from members of my team concerning the conduct and professionalism of the group running the research has been nothing but positive. Our clients regularly ask us to demonstrate the value that can be created by managing risk and this piece of work provides us with another perspective. Virgin Active Students studied carbon and energy management throughout Virgin Health Clubs across the UK. The team researched best practice in building management, analysed the company s current property portfolio and made a series of innovative and practical recommendations to reduce energy consumption. Throughout the project, students remained focused upon Virgin s need to continue to deliver excellent customer experience within their health clubs whilst finding ways to achieve environmental sustainability. 8 YOUR JOURNEY Clare Dyble Director of Enterprise and Marketing, Easton & Otley College, Norwich I thoroughly enjoyed every module, and the main benefit is being able to apply it immediately into your role at work. While doing the MBA, I implemented my learning from marketing, operations and logistics and finance and accounting at the very least. The absolute best thing about the MBA at UEA is the cohort experience which enables theoretical learning but also discussion about practical application and real life problem solving. In such a diverse group of professionals, there is a wide range of skills, so discussions are lively and meaningful. It s also a safe environment in which to discuss ideas and learn. If I didn t understand something, there was always someone who could help me to understand from a practical perspective, just as I helped others from time-to-time. I am currently working as Workforce Development Manager at City College Norwich, but am to embark on a new role in two weeks time as Director of Marketing and Enterprise for Easton & Otley College. I have no doubt that the MBA has helped me achieve this new role, through both academic learning and also building the confidence to realise I can perform in a senior role. Juggling a family with two small children and a full time job along with the MBA isn t easy, but with the support of family, my cohort and the lecturing team, my experience has been truly positive. Clare Dyble Executive MBA graduate Executive MBA Entry Requirements Candidates should normally have: 1. A degree or professional qualification. Applicants without a first degree will be considered on the basis of their business and management experience, their career to date and likelihood of benefiting from the course. 2. At least three years full-time business or management experience. 3. Successful outcome at a personal interview. demonstrate relevant training, experience and the capability to meet the demanding schedule of coursework and examinations. Selection interviews will take place between June and December each year. Fees and Funding The Executive MBA tuition fee for January 2015 entry is 16,950 for the course. 4. Ability of the applicant to contribute effectively to the course. MBA Scholarships and Bursaries Personal characteristics are as important as intellectual ability. Applicants will need to be team players, with good interpersonal skills and show evidence of career progression and potential. We offer a number of Scholarships and Bursaries to offer holders, covering up to 50% of the course fees.
