However, this sector is also characterized by a strong competition which presents a challenge to the companies. The emergence of new markets, new products and new market requirements are forcing companies to quickly adjust to their new environment. In order to meet these challenges as well as the customers requirements, companies need qualified personnel. Well trained management staff with leadership skills and strong technical background is the key success factor for every company with a vision of growth. With this in mind, the Certificate of Advanced Studies Leadership and Skills Development will provide you with the knowledge and the skills needed for the demanding management tasks of the furniture and wood processing industries. During the training, you will think from a different perspective, use new approaches, learn how to lead and manage working colleagues while using your leadership skills and technical know-how. You will gain knowledge in important topics such as business management, marketing, finance and accounting, materials management and logistics, innovation as well as research & development. All inputs are tailored to the needs of the furniture and wood industry and are practice-oriented. The training is also intended for teachers and trainers, offering management related courses to University students or advising companies. 3 Training Outline Compact leadership training The Leadership and Skills Development Training is offered as a one year part-time training with emphasis on leadership and technical know-how in the furniture and wood processing industries. The training program is based on international best practices and supports the professional development of the participants. Target Audience The training is directed at the middle management of furniture and wood processing industries from different areas of competencies as e.g. production manager, product manager, marketing manager, sales manager, human resource manager, accountant, logistics manager, quality manager, etc. The diversity of the participants fosters the learning process. The middle management of furniture and wood processing companies is enabled to bridge the gap between senior management and workforce through improved leadership and technical skills. The other target audience includes trainers as well as teachers of adult and formal training providers/institutions. Their participation creates the basis for a broader dissemination of the new skills and knowledge in the country and for a sustainable continuation of the training in the mediumterm. Adult and formal training providers/institutions improve their capacity to offer demand-driven, application-oriented trainings to the furniture and wood processing industry and University students respectively, according to international standards. We ensure that the participants come from different areas of competencies and we aim to achieve a balanced level of men and women at the training. The training is designed for about 20 participants. The ideal composition consists of two participants from each participating company and training provider/institution in order to reach an optimal benefit. Objectives and Perspectives The Leadership and Skills Development Training is process-oriented, aiming at the direct application of the new skills and knowledge in the participant s daily business. The training enables the participant to identify problems in his or her area of responsibility, to plan and implement the adaptive management and technology measures and to assure a high quality of processes and products. Participants will strengthen their understanding of interactions between the different company divisions, such as human resources, finances, production, marketing, logistics, etc. Participating teachers and trainers are enabled to update teaching material and training methods according to international standards. Some of the participating teachers and trainers will be invited to act as co-trainers in the next Leadership and Skills Development Training cycle. This procedure allows them to offer training on their own in the future. Type of Degree A Certificate of Advanced Studies in Leadership and Skills Development issued by the Bern University of Applied Sciences Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering in Biel, Switzerland, is awarded upon completion of all training modules and acceptance of the short thesis. ECTS Credits The participants who successfully complete the Leadership and Skills Development Training will receive 10 ECTS credits. 4 Language The entire training is offered in English, the required level according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is B2. Translation support during the training is at participant s disposal. Locations The training is being held partly in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and partly in Biel, Switzerland. This enables the participants to apply new leading and social competences directly in their daily business. Support during studies The participants are systematically coached through the entire course by experienced professionals. The interaction between the course leaders and the participants is open (-minded), also providing space for the professional and personal exchange. The participants will benefit from each other and from the diversity of the teaching team. Enrolment Requirements The prerequisites for the participation are: For middle management staff: Bachelor s degree or equivalent qualification with a minimum of two years of practical experience in a middle management position of a furniture or wood processing company. For trainers / teachers: Proven experience in leadership/management training for the furniture and wood processing sector. The theoretical inputs are related to current challenges of the furniture and wood processing industries. Through concrete business cases, participants learn to apply the new knowledge in their daily business. In groups, participants will develop and present practical solutions for current leadership challenges in their companies. For the preparation of the Practical Project (individual short thesis), they are being divided into two groups: - Middle Management of Furniture and Wood Processing Industries Participants focus on the application of their gained knowledge from Block 1 to the practical project where they deal with a specific problem witnessed in their workplace, chosen together with their supervisors. - Trainers and Teachers of Adult and Formal Training Providers / Institutions Participants focus on methodology and didactics related to the training of middle management staff and University student as well as to the strategic positioning and the quality management of their training institution. They learn about new technologies, R&D and testing activities and get an idea on plant engineering and related calculations. The participants improve their capability to transform theoretical knowledge into applied action. - Trainers and Teachers of Adult and Formal Training Providers/Institutions In order to generate a value for the training provider/institution, the participants will work on specific training projects from their institution. They learn about new technologies, R&D and testing activities and improve their capability to offer trainings according to international standards. London: Routledge. Certificate & ECTS Credits For each successfully completed Block of training (Block 1 & Block 2), the participants will obtain 5 ECTS credits. If the participants are only attending one Module, they will receive a Certificate of attendance for the module completed. Block 1: Knowledge Extension (Modules A D) Block 2: Knowledge Application (Module E and Practical Project) Block 1 + Block 2 = Certificate of Advanced Studies 5 ECTS credits 5 ECTS credits 10 ECTS credits Participants will receive their Certificate if they have attended at least 80% of classes and have successfully passed the assessments (group presentations and practical project). 10 ECTS credits correspond to approximately 300 hours of workload.
