5 Free Trade Agreement Briefs PANAMA: U.S. Free Trade Agreement went into effect October 31, Tariff will drop to 0% for U.S. exports to Panama. Panama s tariffs were already relatively low an average of 7% for industrial goods, around 15% for agricultural products. U.S. products and services are already very competitive, with 30% market share of Panama s import. The FTA gives U.S. exporters several advantages. COLOMBIA: U.S. Free Trade Agreement went into effect October 21, 2011, eliminating tariffs and related barriers in Colombia will increase U.S. Gross Domestic Product by nearly $2.5 billion and U.S. merchandise exports by $1.1 billion. Over 80% of U.S. exports of consumer and industrial products to Colombia will become duty free immediately, with remaining tariffs phased out over 10 years, which will substantially increase U.S. exports.
