2 Excellence in Education Prepare for Greatness...Texarkana College Cosmetology is a Pivot-Point Member School and CHI Environmental School, offering excellence through education in a state of the art facility designed to prepare students for a career in this rapidly expanding area. This program provides students with classroom study, demonstration, and practical work. Combining art and design, Pivot Point's Designer's Approach teaches students to see, think, create and adapt as designers. Pivot Point training not only teaches you the how but the why. Pivot Point believes that training only the how limits the students to technical skills the why fosters the students to create and adapt as hair designers. We also require students to complete at least four community service projects to teach students the importance of giving back to the community. A Pivot Point education stands apart from others, giving our graduates an advantage over other beauty school graduates. After graduation from the cosmetology course, students take the state licensing examination. The examination consists of a written test and a practical test in which applicants demonstrate their ability to provide the required services. Students in the cosmetology program are kept abreast of the latest fashions and beauty techniques and are ready for immediate employment upon graduation and passing the state test. Texarkana College offers a dual-enrollment course in cosmetology designed to guide students through training in the theoretical and technical aspects of basic cosmetology. The program is designed to provide job-specific training in the process of decontamination, shampooing and conditioning, haircutting and hairstyling, chemical texture services, hair coloring and skin care and nail care. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation requires 1,500 clock hours to take the State Board Exam for licensure. In order to complete this program following graduation, all students must be TSI exempt or take the Accuplacer exam prior to registration. A minimum passing score on the reading portion is required. Texarkana College offers cosmetology students an opportunity to have an Associate Degree of Applied Science. You will receive 42 SCH for the cosmetology program that can be applied toward a degree. 4 Awards Crystal Service Award - Pivot Point Cares For Kids Texarkana College Cosmetology received this award at CEA 2011 in Scottsdale, Arizona after raising $4,000 for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children during our first annual Cut-A-Thon hosted on May 25th, The theme of the event was a carnival with bouncy houses, hot dogs, ice cream, cotton candy, a DJ, and door prizes. The students did an amazing job starting at 8:00 am and ending at 8:00 pm. Crystal CHI Environmental School Award Texarkana College Cosmetology received this award at the International Be Safe, Be Beautiful, Buy American Conference in Cancun, which more than 5,000 people from more than 100 countries attended. An all-expenses paid trip was offered to one of Texarkana College Cosmetology Instructor by Farouk Shami. community Pivot Point - Cares For Kids Cut-A-Thon for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Skate-A-Thon Students hosted a Skate-A-Thon to raise money for the Pivot Point s Cares for Kids, Cut-A-Thon. Haircuts For Humanities Texarkana College Cosmetology students offer free haircuts to the areas homeless shelters and domestic violence. American Cancer Society Students made wigs to be donated to the American Cancer Society. Race For The Cure Students and Instructors walk annually to support the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Cut Out Cancer - Cut-A-Thon In 2011 a former Texarkana College Cosmetology graduate students had been diagnosed with cancer and in an effort to assist her medical bills a Cut-A-Thon was sponsored in her name. Ladies Night Out An annual event hosted at North Ridge Country Club where students perform manicures, makeup applications, cuts and styles. Manicure s and Pedicure s for a Cause Students offer mani s and pedi s year round to area retirement homes, schools, and churches. Back To School Bash Students offered haircuts to underprivileged kids receiving new shoes for school. Pink Glove Dance Meals on Wheels Canned Food Drive Toys For Tots

5 Annual Events Hair-Ath-Alon An annual event held at the Texarkana College Cosmetology building where teams of students compete performing different procedures. Students also have to create a team name, slogan and t-shirts. Awards are given to the top teams. Shear Madness Avant Garde Hair & Fashion Show An annual event at Texarkana College Cosmetology where students are in teams and have to come up with a theme and translate that into an Avant Garde look from head to toe for day class, and for night class they have to come up with a look for their manikin. A fashion show is held on campus at the Truman Arnold Student Center where a panel of judges critiques each look. Awards are given to the top teams. Continuing Education Students enrolled at Texarkana College Cosmetology have access to educational experiences from guest artists representing major beauty companies and the professionals visit the campus. Students also have many opportunities to experience industry hair and beauty shows.
