3 1.1 DESIGN CONCEPT INTRODUCTION Asymptote s design for Site B1 of the Gent Sint-Pieters Master Plan proposes a combination of powerful architectural elements that strive to create an iconic image for the city that works harmoniously with the various components of the overall master plan strategy, as well as the rich architectural tradition of Gent. The combination of traditional and contemporary materials help to contextually place the building within the broader dialogue with the city. Shifts in scale and changes in elevation, as defined by the master plan guidelines, aim to create an open and inviting presence on the site, while at the same time creating premium space for future tenants and contributing to the powerful language of Gent s architectural landscape. The interplay of light and shadow, mixed with the changes in scale, present the sophistication and elegance requisite of an office headquarters facility, while the dynamic expression of vitality and life aims to contribute to the significant urban experience as envisioned by the master plan brief, contributing to the strength and solidity present in the historical architecture of Gent. In doing so, the proposal shall increase the functionality and connectivity of the site and seamlessly integrate with the surrounding community and city. Asymptote s proposal for Site B1 is designed to be a key and powerful location within the city, both mirroring and enhancing the very vibrancy and life that defines the Gent Sint-Pieters Master Plan. The architecture, planning and design elements of the proposal provides users the highest level of experience through its harmonious and elegant architectural features, presenting itself to the city with an understated richness that galvanizes and fuses the site into its remarkable context, undoubtedly performing as a truly unique and inspired attraction within the context of the Gent Sint-Pieters Master Plan and Gent as a whole.
