Your Honours Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood degree will be granted by the University of Guelph and you will learn from faculty from both partners the University of Guelph and Humber. The Honours Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood program provides early childhood professionals opportunity for growth, career advancement and to pursue further education, such as a master s degree or teachers college. Our campus is located in Toronto with easy access from highways 401, 407 and 427. The campus is serviced by Toronto, Vaughan/York Region, Brampton, Mississauga and GO transit systems. Honours BASc in Early Childhood Academic Excellence The s Early Childhood degree program has quickly become one of Ontario s most sought after and respected programs. The University is committed to continuing this excellence in early learning and care with the Honours Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood degree completion. Our program recognizes the prior academic and workplace experience of early childhood professionals and supports those who wish to upgrade their credentials. The program is delivered in a hybrid format, combining online distance education in each semester with intensive in-class study on designated weekends during the summer semester. This format allows you to continue with your education while maintaining a good life balance in work, family, and learning. As a student, you will benefit from the vast experience of highly trained educators, as well as a full range of student support services. Moving Forward University courses will provide you with a solid background in inclusion, family-centred practice, assessment and intervention, counselling, and community/ program development. The ECDC program allowed me to stay current in my profession. It has helped build a bridge of knowledge that has lead me to pursue higher education. 3 Honours Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Courses Delivery Format Classes are delivered in a hybrid format combining intensive in-class weekend lectures and online coursework in the summer semesters with online study in the fall and winter semesters. For summer in-class courses, you attend class on Friday evening and Saturday at the campus in Toronto, two weekends per month from May through August. In the fall and winter semesters, you study at home via online courses with faculty support readily at hand. This format allows most students to complete the full program in 28 months. 4 Application & Admission Information Admission Requirements The Honours Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood is open to early childhood professionals with: / A minimum of 3 years full-time directly related experience / A high-affinity college diploma in Early Childhood Education / A minimum 75% cumulative average* *Applicants with a % cumulative average may be considered with the online submission of a Student Profile. How to Apply You must apply through the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC), using the 105D application form found at ouac.on.ca. All programs are listed under the University of Guelph. The program code to select when applying is GHH. Deadline to apply: Applications for May 2014 entry must be received by or before February 1, If you have any questions about the admission process please contact Admission Services at ext or info@guelphhumber.ca. Note: You are encouraged to apply and submit all documentation as soon as possible. Admission consideration cannot be guaranteed for applications and documents that are received after the deadline. Required Documents You must submit the following documents by March 1, 2014: / Official transcripts All official college/university transcripts must be submitted in a sealed envelope from the originating institution(s). / Portfolio Your professional portfolio provides information about your background in early childhood, including a detailed resumé, letters of reference and a professional philosophy statement for your Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition. Credit Assessment: Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) Your portfolio must be completed by following specific guidelines outlined at to demonstrate prior learning and professional experience. Credit may be awarded towards your degree based on your PLAR. An official transfer credit assessment will be included with your offer of admission. You must send your official transcripts, portfolio and any additional required documents to: Admission Services, GH Humber College Blvd. Toronto, ON M9W 5L7
5 Mature & Transfer Student Profile If you have a % cumulative average you may be considered for the Early Childhood Degree Completion program with the online submission of a Mature & Transfer Student Profile available at. Tracking Your Application Once we ve received your application, we will send you your login and password to WebAdvisor. This online system allows you to track your application status and lists all the documents required. Admission Decision Upon receipt of all required documentation, your file will be reviewed for an admission decision. An admission decision will be sent to you by March 31, Offers of admission will be mailed with an official credit assessment that details credit granted toward your degree based on previous post-secondary study and professional experience. Accepting your offer of admission to the University of Guelph-Humber implies agreement with your credit assessment. How to Accept Your Offer A formal package will be sent in the mail that includes your offer letter, conditions of your offer, official credit assessment and next steps. You must accept your offer online through the Ontario Universities Application Centre website at ouac.on.ca by the deadline noted in your offer letter. Money Matters Scholarships As an applicant to the program, you are automatically considered for the Bachelor of Applied Science, Early Childhood Entrance Scholarship. Scholarships are awarded based on your final cumulative average from your Early Childhood Education diploma. You will be notified of your scholarship with your offer of admission. Final Admission Average Scholarship Amount 90% or above $2, % $1, % $1,000 Program Costs You are considered a full-time student during the summer intensive semesters and should expect to pay full-time tuition and fees of approximately $3,500*. During the fall and winter semesters the cost per course will be approximately $650 not including additional fees and course materials. The total estimate for 28 months is $15,700*.
