3 Mobile Landscape Across Government Human Services Affordable Care Act, budget challenges, increased need from constituents Creation of web portals, contact centers and face-to-face primary communication with constituents Public Safety Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 allocated wireless spectrum for first responders and $7B in federal funding First responders have already adopted and incorporated mobile technologies into their IT strategy and business processes Meeting security requirements (FIPS 140-2, NLETS, FBI) but challenges arise as technology continues to change Other Agencies DOT s using Mobile Resource Management to track vehicles and increase efficiencies, i.e. snowplow routes Parking Authorities use ruggedized devices and mobile software to create citations. Software is integrated into records management systems Emergency Preparedness Applications for Citizens / 311 applications 2

6 Mobile Strategy Planning Critical Success Factors: Need to develop and incorporate a mobile strategy into overall architecture and planning. Newer technologies mobile, cloud, etc cannot be an afterthought Start small optimize websites for mobile devices, pilots for G2C and for employees. Develop a BYOD policy all, nothing, some? What is being done at State level? How do you communicate with the people you serve and employees today? How do you want/need to communicate with constituents and employees in the future? 5

7 How Do People Connect Today? By 2015, more than 50% of citizen interactions with government will take place via a smartphone or tablet.* How easy is it for your constituents to get information about services, prequalify for benefits or get status? 15 The Louisiana Dept. of Social Services, Department of Community Services is responsible statewide for Adoption and Foster Care Services, Child Protection and Family Services and Homeless Services Over 1000 case workers in the State provide in-home services, supervise emergency situations and oversee the protection of the states most vulnerable citizens, children Problem: Case workers often need to access internal agency systems while in the field and information access is restricted to fixed locations Deployed laptops for all case workers, but efficiency did not improve, as case workers were still being required to go to the office several times per day Solution Custom APN with Laptop Connect to provide secure information access to Case Workers anytime, anywhere across the State Benefit: Reduction in fuel and travel time as Case Workers are no longer required to report to an office several times per day Increased Productivity of Case Workers Updated and available information keeps Case Worker safe when handling volatile family interactions Less time in transit allows Case Workers to provide greater levels of service to their community

17 OurKids oversees and leads a coordinated system of care delivering services to abused, abandoned and neglected children in Miami-Dade and Monroe Cos., FL. They have a staff of 350 case workers in seven different agencies Problem: Case workers traveled with all of their files in their vehicles Difficulty in acquiring information from the field in a timely manner No method for validating that children visits actually happened Ineffective use of time traveling between cases Solution: Xora GPS tracker on Smartphone, plus USB tethering capabilities to access SACWIS from Laptop Benefits: Tracking current case load, mileage traveled Remote real time access to relevant applications and files Higher safety when traveling in less desirable areas Validation of actual visits through date/time and location stamped pictures

18 The New York City Home Health Care Division of the Health and Hospitals Corporation has about 200 visiting nurses who follow up visits to patients of the HHC hospital network. At each patient visit, the nurse has to fill out a form with up to 900 questions on it, which up until now has been done entirely on paper. Problem Nurses would work in the field for a day, then go back to the office in downtown to enter the data into the various backend systems, which creates a lot of inefficiencies Solution ProntoForms running on Apple ipad2. The data is linked with HHC's data back end via the Pronto Forms Connector Framework, allowing a secure connection over the internet. Benefits Current users, typically new employees, experience a marked reduction in the time spent gathering and inputting data. 17

19 Texas Department of Health & Human Services provides a wide array of services from centers located in seventy seven counties. They provide a diverse array of assistance programs from public health to child welfare services. Problem: In order to start a transformation process, TX HHS wanted to deploy smartphones across their case workers and inspectors; however, they had concerns about data security and liabilities Solution: Mobile Iron Connected Cloud Benefit: Securely connect mobile users to their enterprise network Prepared a way to deploy real-time business applications Reduced liability of using paper based processes for the delivery and capture of information 18
