3 A strong UK heritage We have been present in the UK since We patented the first water meter in 1852 and the first electric dynamo in This led to the first electric street lighting in Surrey in 1881, and the first public electric railway in Ireland in In 1881 Siemens technology meant the Savoy in London became the first British theatre to install electric lighting. Siemens contributes to the UK economy by: Employing 13,520 people across all regions of the country. Achieving an annual turnover in 2012 of 3.2 billion. Siemens is 67% more productive than the average for the UK manufacturing industry*. Siemens contributions support the UK indirectly by*: Supporting more than 54,000 jobs through our activities. We ve led the way in the development of an apprenticeship framework for Wind Power Service Technicians at our dedicated training centre in Newcastle. Apprenticeships take between 3-4 years and learners earn virtually double the national minimum wage for apprentices. Our apprenticeships have a successful completion rate of more than 98%. In 2012 Siemens had more than 300 apprentices working in the UK. We run a Finance & Commercial Academy with students following a CIMA programme. Siemens is the major employer partner to The Black Country University Technical College, an innovative vocational school for the technician engineers of tomorrow.

6 Siemens Energy Sector Siemens plays a crucial role in the supply of energy to the UK. The product and service offerings in the Energy Sector range from new steam turbines which increase the efficiency of traditional power generation to renewable energy generation such as wind turbines and innovative technology that improves the transmission and distribution of electricity across the national grid. In 2012, the power generation capacity of Siemens onshore and offshore wind farms reached a total of 4GW, representing approximately half of the UK s total wind power generation capacity. We continue to invest in the UK s wind energy industry with a planned investment to build a new wind turbine facility in Hull. This will create hundreds of new jobs. New high-skill employment opportunities are being created in Siemens energy transmission business which develops grid connections and onshore and offshore substations to support wind farms. As part of a 9 million Energy Service Training Centre, Siemens has invested in a dedicated wind power training facility in Newcastle to train and improve the skills of wind / fossil turbine service technicians. Siemens Energy develops new power plants (fossil-fuelled, hydroelectric, renewable energy and CHP), IT and control products for power generating companies and industrial gas turbines. Since 2007, we have upgraded the turbines at Drax power station, one of the largest coal-fired plants in Western Europe, which accounts for approximately 7% of the total electricity consumption of the UK, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 5% per annum. This equates to more than 250,000 cars off the UK s roads each year.

8 Siemens Healthcare Sector Siemens products facilitate improvements in healthcare in the UK. Siemens develops a wide range of products which are designed to pinpoint disease early on, enhance diagnostic precision and optimise patient care. The Healthcare Sector is split into four divisions: Imaging and IT, Workflow and Solutions, Diagnostics and Magnet Technologies. Superconducting magnets made at Siemens Oxfordshire factory are at the heart of more than a third of all MRI body scanners installed in hospitals worldwide. 95% of the magnets produced at Siemens MR Magnet Technology are exported. Siemens work with the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust highlights the economic benefits that are delivered through the introduction of Siemens healthcare products and systems. A Siemens software engine was added to the existing MRI scanning system to accelerate the power and increase productivity. This has raised the number of patients that can be scanned in a given session by 50%. According to the OECD, there were around 2.4 million MRI scans performed during 2009 in the UK. If Siemens technology was applied to the entire market there would be an efficiency saving of around 14 million each year. An example of the downstream economic gains generated by Siemens activities is the ten year Managed Pathology Service that has been implemented at the Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The service provided involves a complete package of work to modernise the Pathology department. The Siemens facility in Llanberis manufactures and distributes IMMULITE reagents used on blood analysers in hospitals and clinics worldwide to aid the diagnosis of medical conditions.

10 Siemens Industry Sector Siemens Industry Sector manufactures and delivers products and solutions which boost the productivity of UK and international businesses, reducing the environmental impact and optimising the efficiency of manufacturing processes over a plant s entire life-cycle. More than 1.3 million high efficiency motor drives, manufactured by Siemens in Congleton, are exported to 78 countries and reduce emissions by four million tonnes of CO2 per year. This equates to a saving of around 26 million*. Our Hybrid technology is at the heart of Manchester s new Shuttlebuses and London s new Routemaster buses. Siemens PLM provides the digital and software backbone for the 600-strong Red Bull F1 racing team focused on strength, speed and spirit. We help Welsh Water generate more than 4.5MW of renewable power each year, reducing operating costs and lowering operational carbon footprint. Siemens Metals Technologies is a global leader and exporter in the metals industry, designing and engineering equipment for the mining, iron and steelmaking industries. In the UK the business helped re-establish and rebuild British Steel s Redcar Steel plant in Stockton - creating hundreds of modern manufacturing jobs. Siemens Industrial Automation, working with KHS, has implemented an automation technology standardisation strategy for Coca- Cola, resulting in their UK Sidcup plant increasing capacity by another 20 million cases of Coke per annum to support future growth - at a capacity of 120,000 cph. Siemens Industry UK also provides bespoke training to firms up and down the country - recently being awarded a substantial contract with BMW to provide a tailored skill building programme to three BMW UK sites. * Using the average price of carbon on the European Energy Exchange in 2012

12 Siemens Infrastructure & Cities Sector The Infrastructure & Cities Sector offers sustainable technologies for metropolitan and urban centres. The sector has a portfolio comprising integrated mobility solutions, building and security systems, power distribution products from medium to low voltage along with smart grid products and solutions. Siemens has invested 30 million in a global centre of competence for cities in London called the Crystal which is open to the public and boasts the world s largest exhibition about sustainable urban infrastructure. In 2011, Siemens won preferred bidder status for a 1.4 billion contract to develop and manufacture a new fleet of around 1,200 Desiro City carriages for Thameslink. They are due to enter service between 2015 and 2018 and will bring significant benefits. South West Trains invested around 700 million in a fleet of Desiro Electric Multiple Units that were built and are maintained by Siemens. Siemens is a strategic partner for Source London aiming to deliver electric vehicle charging infrastructure across cities in the UK. A suite of extra low voltage traffic controls including traffic lights, regulatory signs and street furniture are manufactured in Poole. Designed to reduce energy costs, they use 80% less energy compared with traditional designs. A city-wide integrated security solution from Siemens has been instrumental in helping Liverpool City Council reduce crime by 10%. Network Rail s entire infrastructure is protected by 4,000 Siemens CCTV cameras from Building Technologies. Our UK-manufactured train radios from Rail Automation are installed in every train in the country to improve communications. Our Fire Safety systems are installed in the UK s two largest retail centres - Bluewater and Westfield.

13 The Crystal The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson: The futuristic Crystal is a fantastic new landmark for London which has breathed new life into the historic Royal Docks. Siemens 30 million investment is a great boost to our ambitious plans to redevelop swathes of former industrial land in order to bring jobs to the capital.

14 Siemens is a Sustainable Business Siemens has a robust and measurable corporate and sustainable responsibility programme. We have set challenging targets to reduce the impact that our activities have on the environment, to improve conditions for our employees and support our local communities. We have reduced our total CO2 impact, in absolute terms, by 11%, far exceeding the rate of change required to meet the government set target. Using CO2 as a share of turnover to measure CO2 efficiency, emissions have been cut from 23.5 tonnes per million pounds of turnover, to 19.8 tonnes. In 2011, Siemens was responsible for 86,400 tonnes of CO2 emissions. This equates to just 0.1% of the total CO2 emissions from the manufacturing industry, while Siemens generates around 1% of all value added by the UK manufacturing industry. In 2011, our global business topped the Dow Jones eurozone sustainability index in the diversified industrials category for the fourth year in a row. We were also named among the leading companies in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index 2011, which recognises companies for the extent to which they measure and report carbon emissions and climate related actions. Siemens maintained its position in the top 500 companies worldwide on this measure. We invest in the communities where we are based, by funding volunteering days. Over the past three years employees have spent a total of nearly 7,000 days working on volunteering projects related to both education and community issues. Siemens is a lead sponsor of Greenpower Education Trust, The Big Bang and the Atmosphere climate science gallery in the Science Museum, helping to inspire the next generation to choose careers in science and engineering and to be passionate about sustainability.
