Canadian Association for Music Therapy (CAMT) promotes excellence in music therapy practice, education, research and development. CAMT works to increase access to high quality music therapy services and to further the awareness of music therapy in Canada as well as serving as an organizational agency for its members. The mission of CAMT is to promote excellence in music therapy practice, education, research and development; to increase access to high quality music therapy services; to further the awareness of music therapy in Canada and to serve as an organizational agency for its members. On May 6, 1977, CAMT was incorporated and the objectives of CAMT were defined as follows: 1. To promote the use and development of music therapy in the treatment, education, training, and rehabilitation of children and adults by: establishing, maintaining, and improving standards of treatment and service in music therapy;
2 establishing, maintaining, and improving standards for education and training for music therapists; encouraging, developing, and promoting research in music therapy; encouraging, developing, and promoting a body of literature in and related to music therapy; furthering the practice of music therapy in scope and quality, in clinical, educational, and community settings throughout Canada. 2. To serve as an organizational agency for its members by: providing channels for the exchange of ideas, advice, guidance, information, and professional experience in and about music therapy; providing a central body of information on aspects of and relating to music therapy; representing the interests of music therapists in matters relating to government legislation, job matters, and salary scales; encouraging and assisting persons or institutions in preparing, qualifying, and establishing themselves as music therapy clinicians; encouraging and assisting educational institutions in developing and establishing music therapy training programs. Description for CAMT Translation history and current initiative CAMT is committed to ensuring that member communication and all publications are accessible to all members in both official languages of Canada, English and French. For the first 40 years we have relied on volunteers for the majority of CAMT activities including translation. We are very grateful to our members for the high quality translation services that have been provided to date. It is now our intention to contract a professional translator on a weekly basis to provide consistent, quality translation that reflects the context of the language used in music therapy. Goal of Current Initiative A professional translator will be contracted by CAMT for a predetermined number of hours weekly and will be paid a predetermined hourly rate to provide professional translation services in English to French and French to English. Priority of projects will be directed by the Executive Assistant. Objectives of Current Initiative To provide professional translation of documents in a timely cost effective manner.
3 To ensure that all documents, communications and publications of CAMT are professionally translated in both official languages Canada. Outcomes Expected from Current Initiative Outputs Needed to Achieve Outcomes A fiscally responsible plan to provide professional quality translation for CAMT in a timely manner. Remove the expectation of member volunteers to provide translation Create opportunity for translation volunteers to provide their volunteer services in other aspects of CAMT such as Advocacy, PR and member services Remove the sense of urgency that comes from treating each document as a separate project with regards to translation Translate documents that are not a priority with regards to timelines (and therefore remain in only one language) Professional quality translation of all documents, communications and publications of CAMT A translation timeline that is responsive to the immediate needs of the organization A cost effective translation service that prioritizes need and builds in time for translation of all CAMT material. Description of Translation Requirements/Content English to French and French to English professional translation skills are required for all member communications and publications. Professional translation will be applied to both written and verbal communication. This will include: Publications: Salut (monthly) Ensemble (twice/year) CJMT (annually) MT Advocate (quarterly) Conference Preliminary and Final Program (annually) Communications: Website Conference Communication Promotional materials (eg MT Month) Documents: Policy & Procedures Strategic Plan Handbooks & Guidelines
4 Job Descriptions Annual Reports AGM Agenda and Minutes CBMT Exam Bylaws Standards of Practice CAMT French English Dictionary Qualifications: Professional French to English/English to French Translator Qualified Music Therapist (Music Therapist Accredited (MTA) preferred) Certified Translator who is currently a member in good standing of their professional association (preferred) Must have professional translation experience Must have knowledge of language and context specific to music therapy Excellent time management skills Ability to work independently Will work with direction from CAMT as given REQUEST: Please provide details of a professional translation service that will meet the above stated requirements with language services that reflect the context of language used in music therapy.
