1 CALL FOR APPLICANTS for the CMEA-Appointed Co-Chair for the 2018 International Society of Music Educator s (ISME) World Conference on Music Education Toronto 2018 Background The Biennial ISME World Conference brings together ISME members working in all contexts and levels of music education to share best practices, issues relative to practice, industry, advocacy and research relevant to their professional community. The last ISME conference held in Canada was hosted by Edmonton in A motion was passed by the CMEA Full Board to pursue placing a bid to host the 2018 ISME World Conference. After an extensive search, our site selection committee has chosen he city of Toronto as the site of our potential 2018 ISME conference. We are currently seeking a candidate to allow their name to stand in the bid under the role of Conference Co- Chair Operations and Logistics. Should the bid be successful, the successful applicant would move immediately into the official role of ISME Toronto 2018 Co- Chair.

2 Job Description Immediately upon appointment October 2013 Collaborate with the CMEA Elected Board, Strategic Site Selections, Toronto Tourism and Academic Co- Chair Dr. Lee Bartel on the development and submission of our CMEA bid to host the 2018 ISME World Conference. Upon confirmation of a winning bid Spring 2014 until approx. July 2018 Work collaboratively with Dr. Lee Bartel, the Co- Chair representing the Scientific and Academic Community File quarterly progress reports with the CMEA Elected Board Seek feedback on progress and take direction from the CMEA Elected Board Prepare and adhere to a CMEA Board- approved budget Remain fiscally responsible at all times and in compliance with CMEA and ISME policies Chair the leadership of a team of colleagues ( ISME 2018 Conference Organizing Committee ) and industry representatives to facilitate the conference operation and logistics, including but not exclusive to: The development of a comprehensive professional development and research- focused conference Seek sources of potential revenue in addition to conference registration fees and exhibitor rentals Investigate risk mitigation and the potential benefit of risk insurance to report back to the CMEA Board for consideration Act, communicate, and negotiate with partners in a manner that will advance the aims of the CMEA and the ISME World Conference initiative

3 Develop positive professional relationships with partner organizations, suppliers, industry partners, and sponsors Develop, respect, and uphold timelines that promote a successful path for the conference Maintain both process and decision- making records Promote and advertise the conference and its aims through marketing, including publications, website development, s and social media Establish a working relationship with IECSP a division of the Canadian Border Services Agency to help facilitate both speaker and delegate entry VISAs and Customs clearance for Exhibitor s goods Source a venue and contract conference facilities, accommodation providers, A/V technology, food and beverage and transportation (where required) Investigate corporate social responsibility practices and apply conference sustainability principles (both environmental and social) to reflect the values of CMEA and ISME Develop and oversee registration process of conference delegates Organize both Social and Spousal programs during the length of the conference Submit a Final Report including financial statements and recommendations for future CMEA and/or ISME initiatives and member services or programs

4 The Ideal Candidate The CMEA Executive seeks a candidate who is currently a CMEA member in good standing to fulfill this role. In addition, the ideal candidate will be experienced with: Leading a diverse, broad- based team of colleagues Organizing professional development and/or conference events The network of professional associations for music educators in Canada Contract review and/or negotiation Collaborative planning The role of research as it informs practice Technology that facilitates communication (project management, e- meetings, shared documents, etc.) Facility, resource, and financial management Making An Application To submit an application, please send a letter (two- page maximum) to the attention of Kirsten Maclaine, CMEA Vice- President, at kirstenmaclaine@cmea.ca, no later than September 30th, 2013, outlining your: reasons for interest; experience with conference and/or professional development leadership; role(s) in the music education community; commitment to fulfilling the role through until approximately July, 2018;

5 History of volunteerism with local, provincial, or national music education organizations; and Any other relevant information to support your candidacy Please also be prepared to provide three references who can attest to your capacity for leadership, ability to meet deadlines, commitment to music education, and organizational style.
