CERTIFIED NURSE AIDE (CNA) Dates: 10/21/13 11/21/13 Days: M TR Time: 4:30-8:30PM 60hrs Tuition: $ CPR: $49.00 Students learn the necessary skills to work in long-term care, home health, or hospital environments. A method of instruction providing detailed education, training and work-based experience, and direct patient/client care, generally at a clinical site. Specific detailed learning objectives are developed for each course by the faculty. On-site clinical instruction, supervision, evaluation, and placement is the responsibility of the college faculty. Clinical experiences are unpaid external learning experiences. CERTIFIED NURSE AIDE CLINICAL Dates: 11/22,23,24 and 12/7&8/13 Days: FSS Time: 6:00-3:00 PM 40hrs A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. This course is required for all students taking the Certified Nurse Aide class. BASIC PHLEBOTOMY Dates: 9/24/13 11/14/13 Days: TR Time: 6:00-9:00PM 48 hrs Tuition: $ The student will discuss theoretical and practical aspects of specimen collection (including professionalism, ethics, terminology, quality control, and safety); use basic laboratory terminology; identify name and function of laboratory equipment; and explain issues of quality control and safety. This course is designed to prepare students to take the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT) certification examination. Extensive additional clinical assignments are required to complete ASPT pre-certification requirements EKG MONITOR TECH Dates: Days: Time: 56 hrs Tuition: $ This introductory course is designed for those who want to work in the health care industry in a more advanced position. A basic knowledge of hospital protocol and medical terminology is recommended but not required. This course includes fundamentals of the anatomy and physiology of the cardiac system, basic EKG procedures, interpretation of basic dysrhythmias and a brief look at treatment. This is a demanding course that requires an intense commitment to learning and understanding the complex concepts associated with the cardiac system. HOMEWORK on a daily basis will be necessary. The practicum will be the last three days of class. Instruction includes 32 hours of class

2 room time and 24 hours of practicum for which the student must provide name badges, lime green scrubs, and a white lab coat COMPUTER TRAINING All computer classes require students to bring a 1 GB (minimum) flash drive. BEGINNING KEYBOARDING Dates: 9/9/13 10/9/13 Days: MW Time: 6:00-8:00 PM 20 hrs Tuition: $ This class teaches the beginning student how to proficiently type on a computer keyboard. Each student works with the instructor one-on-one and independently to improve keystroke speed. An average student (beginning keystroke speed at 5 wpm) will increase words per minute speed to 35 wpm by the end of the class. Prerequisite: None. Students successfully completing course will receive 2.0 Continuing Education Units (CEU s). INTRODUCTION TO MS EXCEL 2010 Dates: 10/1/13 10/17/13 Days: TR Time: 6:00-8:00 PM 12 hrs Tuition: $ Instruction in terminology, machine use, program parameters, display characteristics, formatting features, mathematical functions, and printing. Understand basic concepts of spreadsheet functions; create formulas, charts, and graphs; and generate reports. Learn to explore how to open and modify existing work sheets; create and save new work sheets; select and fill ranges of cells; use relative and absolute cell address an customize your screen with toolbars; format and print a work sheet; create and edit calculating formulas. Prerequisite: advanced understanding of computer operation and keyboarding. MICROSOFT EXCEL 2010 Dates: 10/1/13 10/31/13 Days: TR Time: 6:00-8:00 PM 24 hrs Tuition: $ Topics include the Ribbon interface; entering and editing data; selecting cells and ranges; printing worksheets; creating formulas and functions; formatting cell contents; inserting and deleting columns, rows, and cells; charts; large worksheets and workbooks. Prerequisite: Basic Keyboarding Skills and basic understanding of MS Windows. Students successfully completing course will receive 2.4 Continuing Education Units (CEU s) INTRODUCTION TO WINDOWS 7 Dates: 10/21/13 00/00/13 Days: MW Time: 6:00-8:00 PM 18 hrs Tuition: This class will promote the novice computer user into the ranks of the informed user. The class begins with basics of computers, including operating systems, windows, hardware, and software. The concepts and features will be presented clearly and comprehensively. Prerequisite: Basic keyboarding skills. Students successfully completing course will receive 1.8 Continuing Education Units (CEU s). MICROSOFT WORD Dates: 00/00/13 00/0/13 Days: MW Time: 6:00-8:00 PM 24 hrs Tuition: $ Topics include the Ribbon interface, working with text, printing, using proofreading tools, creating bulleted and numbered lists, tables, newsletter columns, WordArt and clip art, document themes, styles, picture editing, and Mail Merge. Prerequisite: Basic keyboarding skills and basic understanding of MS Windows. Students successfully completing course will be awarded 2.4 Continuing Education Units (2.4 CEU s). BASIC OFFICE 2010 Dates: Days: MTR Time: 6:00 9:00 PM 48 hrs Tuition: $ This course is an introduction to the basic software programs commonly used in the workplace. The software programs taught are a must for anyone with the desire to enter the modern work place. Topics include an introduction to

3 Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, commonly used for financial/accounting; Microsoft Word, used for professional letter writing; Internet and , used in everyday personal, as well as professional life; and Microsoft Powerpoint, used in the creation of presentations. Skills taught will assist in students finding a successful position in a professional office with increasing pay, stability, and a sense of accomplishment. Prerequisite: Basic keyboarding skills. Students successfully completing course will receive 4.8 Continuing Education Units (CEU INTERMEDIATE OFFICE 2010 Dates: Days: MTR Time: 6:00 9:00 PM 48 hrs Tuition: $ This class is a continuation of the Basic Office class. Skills will be taught to enhance your basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint. Students will expand their knowledge of the use of each software program, assisting in their promotion for a career in today's professional world. Prerequisite: Must have knowledge of basic MS Office Students successfully completing course will receive 4.8 Continuing Education Units (CEU s). INTRODUCTION TO QUICKBOOKS 2012 Dates: 9/10/13 10/17/13 Days TR Time: 6:00 8:30 30 hrs Tuition: $ This course in Quickbooks 2012 includes creating a Quickbooks company, customizing Quickbooks for your business, editing and chart of accounts, working with lists of customers, jobs, employees, and vendors, using bank account registers, reconciling checking accounts, working with assets, liabilities and equity accounts, entering sales information, receiving payments and making deposits, entering and paying bills, accounts payable; creating reports and graphs that help you understand your business, creating and customizing reports, exporting reports to MS Excel, ordering products, receiving inventory, tracking and paying sales tax, setting up payroll, invoicing customers, paying non-employees, and customizing invoices and forms. Basic keyboarding skills and knowledge of MS Windows. Students successfully completing course will receive 3.0 Continuing Education Units (CEU s). INTRODUCTION TO QUICKBOOKS 2012, PART I Dates: 11/5/13 11/21/13 Days: TR Time: 6:00-8:30 PM 15 hrs Tuition: This course is designed to teach students software applications and gain knowledge necessary to perform specific operations in the QuickBooks 2012 environment. Part 1 (chapters 1-5) include getting started, creating a QuickBooks company, working with vendors, working with customers, customizing QuickBooks for your business by editing the chart of accounts, working with lists for customers, jobs, employees and vendors, using bank account registers, reconciling checking accounts, working with assets, liabilities and equity accounts, entering sales information, receiving payments and making deposits, paying bills and writing checks. Includes informational handouts, review questions and real world progressive exercises (hands-on applications). This class is strictly software-based and does not include accounting curriculum, but knowledge of basic business terms is helpful. INTRODUCTION TO QUICKBOOKS 2012, PART II Dates: 00/00/13 00/00/13 Days TR Time: 6:00 8:30 15 hrs Tuition: $ INDUSTRIAL SAFETY TRAINING INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY Dates: 9/16/13 9/26/13 Days MTWRF Time: 8am 5pm 70 hrs Tuition: $2, The educational content within this nine day course (70 hours) will comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. This course will be taught by certified OSHA instructors. Material and certifications within this course are designed for prospective industrial maintenance employees. Upon successful

4 completion of the course, students will be better equipped to recognize the hazards associated within the industrial setting and obtain the required certifications where applicable. Material covered will also include: Hazwoper, Hydrogen Sulfide, Confined Space - Entrant/Attendant, Confined Space Rescuer, Forklift Training, First Aid/CPR, Lock Out/Tag Out, PEC Safe L and USA/ Safe Gulf Basic Orientation, OSHA 10 Hour, Rigging, Process Safety Management, Hazardous Communication & Global Harmonization System (GHS), Welding Safety, HazMat, Fall Protection, Electrical Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, Respiratory Protection, Blood Borne Pathogens, Hand & Power Tools, Back Safety, Fire Prevention, Ladder & Scaffold Safety, Excavation & Trenching, Hearing Conservation and Medical Records. Upon completion of this 70 hour training, South Plains College will issue a CEU certificate acknowledging your completion of the entire course. A name badge including your picture on the front and certifications on the back will be issued to each student. OSHA certification cards will also be issued, as well as first aide/cpr certification cards issued by the American Heart Association. This course has been approved for WIA funding. Applicants must meet all requirements in order to qualify for this funding. ***Minimum of 10 students for class to be held.*** GENERAL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN Dates: 9/16/13-12/3/13 Days MTW Time: 6:00PM 9:30 PM 120 Hours Tuition: $2,300 This 120 hour course is designed to prepare students to work as general maintenance technicians. The course is comprised of basic framing and repair, basic A/C electrical circuits, and basic plumbing and repair. Topics include building walls, roofs and floors, installing windows and doors, installing and repairing dry wall, calculating how to pitch a roof, installing roof shingles, installing flashing and gutters, painting, installing and repairing different types of flooring, basic electricity, understanding wiring basics, installing wall switches receptacles, light fixtures, doorbells, thermostats, designing a basic circuit for a room, understanding how a 240 volts circuit works, panel inspection, inspect grounds for defects, troubleshoot wiring problems, inspect receptacles and switches for problems, basic electrical troubleshooting, understanding water and plumbing systems, recognize and use plumbing tools and materials, understand different pipes and connections, routing and joining pipe, install and repair faucets, faucet valve installation and repair, toilet installation and repair, shower installation and repair, water heater installation, and trouble shoot basic plumbing problems. Students must successfully pass 75% of the skills in the class to earn a certificate for 12 Continuing Education Units (CEU s) This course has been approved for WIA funding. Applicants must meet all requirements in order to qualify for this funding. BEGINNING WELDING Dates: Days: TR Time: 32 hrs Tuition: $ Basic welding techniques using some of the following processes: Oxy-fuel welding (OFW) and cutting, shielded metal arc welding and safety procedures, and equipment set-up. Intro to GMAW ( wire) Dates: Days: TR Time: 32 hrs Tuition: $ This course provides a study of the principles of gas metal arc welding and the setup and use of associated equipment and tools with emphasis on safe shop practices. GLOBAL HARMONIZATION SYSTEM Dates: Days: Time: 2 hrs Tuition: $90.00 This course gives you a basic understanding about Globally Harmonized System (GHS) and provides information to workers and employers in all industries where employees could potentially be exposed to hazardous chemicals. OSHA

5 revised its Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) to align with the United Nationsâ Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals. Two significant changes contained in the revised standard require the use of new labeling elements and a standardized format for Safety Data Sheets (SDS), formerly known as, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs). The new label elements and SDS requirements will improve worker understanding of the hazards associated with the chemicals in the workplace. $80 w/5 minimum. DC/ AC CIRCUITS Dates: 8/26/13 12/9/13 Days: MW Time: 8:00 11:30 PM Tuition: CETT DC-AC CIRCUITS. (5:3:4) This course includes the fundamentals of DC circuits and AC circuits operation including Ohm s law, Kirchhoff s laws, networks, transformers, resonance, phasors, capacitive and inductive and circuit analysis techniques. DIGITAL FUNDAMENTALS Dates: 8/26/13 12/9/13 Days: MW Time: 2:30 6:30 PM Tuition: CETT DIGITAL FUNDAMENTALS. (4:3:4) This course is an entry level course in digital electronics covering number systems, binary mathematics, digital codes, logic gates, Boolean algebra, Karnaugh maps, and combinational logic. Emphasis on circuit logic analysis and troubleshooting digital circuits. FITNESS AND LEISURE CAKE DECORATING with Etta Dates: 10/7/13 10/28/13 Days: M Time: 6:30 8:30 M 8 hrs Tuition: $ Introduction to skills, concepts and techniques of cake decorating. Produce a variety of acceptable decorated cakes using a variety of techniques. INTERMEDIATE SEWING SKILLS with Ranada & Co. Dates: Days: T Time:6:30 8:30 PM 14 hrs Tuition:$ Fundamentals of sewing machine operations, fabric preparation and cutting, machine and hand sewing techniques. ( CLASSES WILL BE AVALIBLE IF ROOM PERMITS ) INDOOR CYCLING Dates: 8/26/13 12/9/13 Days: MW Time: 8:00 9:15 AM Tuition: This course is designed to improve strength and cardiovascular fitness through the use of stationary bicycles. Adaptable for all fitness levels. WEIGHT TRAINING Dates: 8/26/13 12/9/13 Days: MW Time: 11;00 12:15AM Tuition: This is a basic course in strength training utilizing a circuit training approach designed for men and women. YOGA

6 Dates: 8/26/13 12/9/13 Days: MW Time: 2:30 3:45 PM Tuition: This is a beginning course emphasizing muscular strength, joint flexibility, endurance, balance and mental concentration. BOWLING Dates: 8/26/13 12/9/13 Days: MW Time: 9:30 10:45 AM Tuition: This course covers the fundamentals of bowling skills, strategies and scoring. For beginning and intermediate skill levels. Class meets off campus. Bowling balls and shoes provided by the Lanes. SELF-DEFENSE CLASSES Dates: 8/01/13 10/29/13 Days: TR Time: 7:30 8:30 PM 25 hrs Tuition: $ The cost of this class is $ which breaks down to $7.28 per class. Self-defense classes for women, children and anyone else interested in self-defense. Brazilian jiu-jitsu is tailored for the smaller, weaker person. It uses joint locks focused on leverage rather than muscle and positions based on attackers assault The challenges you face in training will help you achieve a high level of confidence and self-esteem as well as increase your coordination also improves your emotional control. All of these will make you a better business person, worker, student, family member. Jiu-jitsu Instructors were awarded black belts in ALCOHOL EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR MINORS AEPM PROGRAM FOR MINORS Dates: Call office Days : MT Time: 6:00 9:00 pm 6 hrs Tuition: $60.00 Textbook This is a fun, interesting, and informative class which provides a state approved Alcohol Education Program for Minors. Our classes are certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services for persons under the age of 21 who received alcohol related citations. This course is designated to implement Texas Legislation which mandates the court to require those young people to complete a state approved alcohol awareness course. TUITION Please make tuition payment in full when registering to guarantee a space in the class of your choice. REGISTER EARLY Early registration allows us to make an accurate class count and assures you a place in a class that may have limited enrollment. You are officially enrolled and your name is placed on the class roster as soon as we receive your registration and payment. Confirmations are not sent on registrations. If you wish to confirm registrations for courses call (806) EXT 4320 or 4304 CANCELLAT/ONS South Plains College makes every effort to hold workforce development short courses that are advertised. However, sometimes it is necessary to cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment. If

7 this happens, we will make every effort to contact you by mail or phone, using the address or telephone number listed on your registration form. REFUNDS Full refunds are made if notification to drop the class is made prior to the first class day or if a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment or other circumstances. For classes dropped during the first two class days a 70% refund will be given. No refunds will be given after the second class day. No refund will be given for criminal background checks.
