One place to get the answers is by registering for an auto shop course. Here you will learn basic maintenance and how to maintain your vehicle. If you d like more in depth information, advanced auto would make a great selection. Here you will be doing problem solving, pricing, and repairs. If you are thinking you d like to make this your career choice, Vocational Auto will be the course. Voc. Autos will give you the jumpstart to trade school and your certification. Come join the team and learn the history of the automobile industry and explore what the future may hold. Learn how the mechanic has come from Grease Monkey to an Auto Technician. Building and Construction Technologies For all the students that like to build things with own hands, these classes are your chance to learn to build items from as small as a jewelry box all the way up to an entire house. Classes will start in the wood shop where you ll learn the use of tools and equipment along with safety. You ll build projects for yourself and projects for CHS. The basics of home building will taught in shop. When construction Technology is completed you could get into Building Trades where we actually build the entire house. You will do every step from the foundation to the finish work. You could be part of the biggest class project at CHS. Other classes will cover cabinet building and installing. You can learn basic residential wiring if you like that field. Over all a student will experience a lot of the trades and if they would like to get into a trade after graduation this would be an excellent place to start. Trades people are the ones who built America and you could be one of them by getting a good start here at CHS in the Vocational Trades Department. Manufacturing Technologies Come one come all to the metal shop. Everyone is welcome. Down here in the metal shop there are bright lights, hot metal, and a possible career path for some of you folks. In the year 2011 the United States anticipates that the shortage of welders will be well over 200,000. So whether you just want to have skills for your garage or are thinking that manufacturing is a career for you, come to the Clinton High Metal Shop and you just might learn something. Drafting & Project Lead the Way Are you the type of student that likes to draw, likes to know how things work, have had ideas on how to improve a product, or have an idea you would like to see on the market? Students use state-of-the-art software to solve real world problems and apply knowledge to hands-on projects and activities. By collaborating on the development of community-based building projects, students experience first-hand the job responsibilities of architects and civil engineers. By the end of the course, students are able to give a complete presentation to the client, including three-dimensional renderings of buildings and improvements, zoning and ordinance constraints, infrastructure requirements, and other essential project plans. 85

8 ENGINEERING DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT (EDD) Grade: 11, 12 Prerequisite: 3 PLTW courses or Instructor Approval Trimesters: 2 Credits: 2 Course Description: In this capstone course, teams of students spend their time solving problems of their own choosing. The teams apply principles developed in the other preceding PLTW core courses and are guided by a community mentor. They brainstorm possibilities, research current patents and regulations, construct a working model, test the model in real life situations (or simulation), document their designs, and present and defend the design to a panel of experts. OTHER VOCATIONAL COURSES MEDICAL CAREERS Grade: 12 Prerequisites: Anatomy and Physiology Trimesters: 2 Credits: 2 Course Description: This course familiarizes students with health care and provides pre-requisite skills necessary to pursue a career in the healthcare profession. First trimester examines the history of health care, growing trends and changes within the field and practices various skills needed, both professional and clinical in preparation for 2 nd trimester. Second trimester, the students observe, experience and experiment with concepts learned first trimester. Two days a week will be spend in the classroom further applying the basics of patient care and collaborating with other students about their clinical experiences. Three days a week the students will visit and job-shadow various healthcare facilities and clinics as well as tour most areas of the hospital with professionals in the community. Clinical opportunities will vary, however each student will gain knowledge in an array of positions providing an enriching, real-life experience. Due to increased interest and need to limit enrollment, a GPA of is recommended. 86
