It provides the opportunity for a graduate with an Engineering Technology Degree, Engineering Degree, and Science Degree in Physics or Chemistry, to earn an advanced technical diploma in instrumentation within a shorter time frame than the regular ICET program. The ICTX program is delivered in 4 terms plus 3 recommended co-op terms; compared to the ICET program in which the program duration is 6 terms plus 3 co-op terms. The program provides the needed technical background as well as a significant hands-on opportunity to develop skills to operate and maintain control systems that incorporate digital, pneumatic and hydraulic processes. Instruments are used in controlling process variables such as temperature, pressure, level and flow quantities in a variety of industrial and commercial buildings. ICTX labs duplicate a real-life manufacturing environment and the technologies developed can easily be scaled-up and transferred to the actual operating unit. Moreover, ICTX students will have the opportunity to work in relevant industries within the three co-op terms. Applicants must possess an Engineering Technology Degree, Engineering Degree, or Science Degree in Physics or Chemistry. ICTX applicants will be assessed individually and will be exempted from introductory courses based on the applicant s educational background. Instrumentation technologists are employed in petrochemical, pharmaceutical, energy generation, automobile assembly lines and food processing plants.
