3 PRAKAB OUR COMPANY All our cables meet requirements of relevant applicable to: Self-extinguishing properties as per IEC ; Fire propagation in bundles as per EN ; Corrosive behaviour of gases during fire as per EN ; Smoke density as per EN ; Unprotected cables in emergency circuits as per EN ed.2 or EN (for cable types PRAFlaDur and PRAFlaGuard ); ADVANCED LOW FIRE HAZARD CABLE SOLUTIONS. Insulation integrity/function maintenance as per IEC ,-23 (for cable types PRAFlaDur and PRAFlaGuard ); Functional integrity of the complete cable system as per ZP 27/2008 (for cable types PRAFlaDur and PRAFlaGuard ). A revolutionary innovation are PRAFlaGuard SPF cables provided with insulation made out of ceramicizing silicone foam rubber. This innovative technology allows us to produce even such cable types which could not be normally produced to meet low fire hazard requirements. Thanks to this, these new types of communication cables achieve significantly better transmission parameters compared to conventional halogen-free types. In 2002 the company, being one of the few to do so in the Czech Republic, opened its own LFHC/FRNC test centre, where it carries out a wide range of tests. The most important encompass measurement of heat and smoke release and the CPD test, which evaluates combustion products that result from cable burning. PRAKAB products meet the strictest requirements of national and international and regularly obtain certificates from international certification bodies. PRAKAB has therefore earned the reputation of a top-quality and reliable supplier and belongs to European market leaders.

4 PRAKAB REFERENCE FIELDS OF APPLICATION AND REFERENCE PROJECTS. When cables with PVC insulation or sheath are burning, dangerous black-coloured dense smoke containing lots of chlorine develops. It reacts with humid air and creates acidic corrosive environment that is dangerous both for people and materials. Therefore, we recommend that our certified LFHC/FRNC (PRAFla) cables are used for rooms and places with a high concentration of people or expensive technologies. These cables, when burning, are able to maintain optical transparency of the developing smoke. This enables sufficient orientation of evacuated persons and fire brigades. Combustion products are neither toxic nor hazardous for people, buildings or equipment. Use of cables with halogen-free insulation is required for places with a high concentration of people and animals and protection of property. Subways For subways, tunnels, evacuation corridors and similar projects, our LFHC/FRNC cables fully meet requirements on functionality and zero content of halogen components. For these premises we supply our fire-resistant LFHC/FRNC cables, which guarantee the functionality of signalling, evacuation intercom, emergency light, ventilation and door opening over a requested period of time. They also ensure that burning insulation does not drop down from ceiling installations on evacuated persons. The smoke concentration generated by these cables during fire is so low that sufficient visibility is maintained. Reference projects: Prague subway (CZ), Vienna subway (AT), Almaty subway (KZ), Warszawa subway (PL) Airports When planning cable installations at the airports, special attention must be paid to the areas with high passenger traffic, storage areas for materials and luggage or sites with control system installations. In such cases, use of LFHC/FRNC cables in combination with other functional integrity elements of the complete cable systems is most suitable for health protection, safe evacuation and avoiding damage to technological equipment. The ability to function even when on fire is very important, because it ensures the functionality of the device to which the cables are installed. Reference projects: Ruzyně Airport (Prague, CZ), Skylink Airport (Vienna, AT), Borispol Airport (Kiev, UA), Zhuliany Airport (Kiev, UA). Hotels and Other Accommodation Facilities In enclosed spaces with a high concentration of visitors, it is very difficult to find appropriate solutions for quick and safe evacuation of people in the event of fire. It may be complicated due to lack of knowledge of the space and even made impossible due to smoke and toxicity of the environment. Therefore, any installation of cables with PVC insulation or sheath is totally unsuitable in such cases. Our LFHC/FRNC cables fully meet requirements on ensuring safety in the event of fire in spaces such as hotels, residential buildings and cultural facilities. We also offer suitable products for the installations to provide ventilation for escape routes and power supply for evacuation and fire-fighting lifts or booster pumps of the firewater main. Hospitals In medical facilities there is a higher concentration of people with limited mobility or orientation abilities and the staff is not able to ensure quick and efficient evacuation in case fire breaks out for all hospitalized people. Moreover, any functional failures in crucial departments such as operating theatres or intensive care and emergency units are out of the question. The for wiring in medical facilities are therefore very strict and that is why it is very advisable to use LFHC/FRNC cables that guarantee functionality even during fire and reduce the risks connected with the evacuation of people. Reference projects: Hospitals in Brno and Mladá Boleslav (CZ) Arenas and Exhibition Halls In places like cinemas, theatres or congress halls and other spaces that temporarily produce areas with a high concentration of people, there is always a high risk of mass hysteria. A primary cause can be not only fire but also smoke emissions inside the space. The use of LFHC/FRNC cables for all wiring is the most efficient prevention of a panic outbreak. Our LFHC/FRNC cables are tested and certified for various levels and requirements on functional integrity of the complete cable system which is crucial for the evacuation of people and equipment protection. Reference projects: National Sports Complex OLYMPIC, Kiev (UA), Donbas Arena, Doneck (UA), Arena Lviv, Lviv (UA), Ice sport Centre Bratislava (SK) Protection of Devices and Instrumentation There are many places at which the health risks are low but development of a fire could cause serious damage of important systems. Besides the above mentioned flight control systems or ER and ICU s in hospitals they include, for example, computer server rooms or central control/dispatcher rooms and rescue service control rooms. Corrosive effects of smoke from conventional cables may cause irreversible damage to sensitive systems, and therefore we would recommend using our LFHC/FRNC cables for such applications. Reference projects: Diamant Hotel (Prague, CZ) Shopping Malls and Office Blocks In shopping malls, our LFHC/FRNC cables are often installed with cable support systems. The reason for this is the need to ensure the functionality of fire-extinguishing installations, ventilation, emergency escape lighting and other evacuation devices. LFHC/FRNC cables also, owing to their composition, prevent the dropping down of burning particles that could increase the risk of vertical fire spread and injuries of persons present at the time. Reference projects: Allegro head office (Poznań, PL), Ikea Černý Most (CZ)

5 PRAKAB PROPERTIES OF ELECTRIC CABLES IN THE EVENT OF FIRE PROPERTIES OF ELECTRIC CABLES IN THE EVENT OF FIRE. Behaviour of electric cables in the event of fire can be evaluated from four points of view: 1. Fire Spread on Cable Surface Smoke density An important parameter in evaluating the smoke evolved during burning is also smoke density, i.e. ability to reduce light trasmission. Dense smoke may cause poor orientation of persons in the event of fire and make their evacuation more difficult. LFHC 4,5 mv LFHC In most cases, electric cables are manufactured from materials which are more or less flammable. Considering the manner of use of the cables, products that connect various areas of one room or various spaces in one building, they have good attributes to spread fire throughout the building. To avoid such situations or to minimize such effects, we develop and test cables that would not spread fire. All cables designated as LFHC/FRNC practically do not spread fire. The test is specified in the following standard: EN Measurement of smoke density of cables burning under defined conditions. 3. Functional integrity of Electric Cables in the Event of Fire ČSN EN ČSN EN LFHC To check this functional integrity property, two basic test methods are used: Flame spread test The test verifies whether a single wire or cable spreads fire by itself by spreading flame on its surface. The test is specified in the following : EN Test for vertical flame propagation for a single insulated wire or cable Procedure for 1kW pre-mixed flame. EN Test for vertical flame propagation for a single small insulated wire or cable - Procedure for diffusion flame. Test of fire propagation in bundles Analogically to previous case, the test verifies the extent of flame spread on surface of cables which are installed in a bundle in this particular case. The test is specified in the following set of : EN xx Tests on electric and optical fibre cables under fire conditions Test for vertical flame spread of vertically-mounted bunched wires or cables. Non-propagation of flame is checked also during tests on reaction to fire of electric cables, see below. 2. Properties of Gases Evolved during Combustion Gases evolved during combustion of cables may have various hazardous properties: Corrosion effects of gases evolved during combustion Corrosiveness, i.e. ability of gases to create aggressive environment and cause corrosion, is one of the crucial parameters. This is an important factor also because the corrosive atmosphere may cause damage to the installations which have not been immediately affected by fire. In the event of a fire it is essential that some installations which are necessary for the protection of persons and buildings keep their functional integrity. This requires uninterrupted power supply and transmission of necessary information to such installations. For this purpose, cables with such properties have been developed to be able to work without interruption or fault even if running immediately through the centre of the fire. They keep their functional integrity while neither power supply, nor information transmission is interrupted. Circuit integrity and insulation functional integrity The first method that investigates the ability of cables to keep their functional integrity and transmit power or information even during and after the fire is the method specified in the following set of : EN xx Tests for electric cables under fire conditions - Circuit integrity. During the test, cables are connected to nominal voltage and exposed to direct impact of flame. Then the time during which the cable is able to work is measured. The cables are normally designed to properly work for a period of 180 minutes. Functional integrity for safety circuits A more demanding alternative of the above mentioned test method is another method specified in the following standard: EN Test method for resistance to fire of unprotected small cables for use in emergency circuits. During this test, cables are subjected to mechanical stress in addition to high temperature and electric voltage. A metal rod impacts the test plate to which the cable is fastened every 5 minutes. Mechanical vibrations are simulated at the same time. PH90 ČSN EN ČSN EN V180 / FE C 1kV 5 min. The test is specified in the following standard: EN Common test methods for cables under fire conditions Tests on gases evolved during combustion of materials from cables. 940 C PH 4,5 10µS/cm ČSN EN kv LFHC ČSN EN 50267

6 PRAKAB PROPERTIES OF ELECTRIC CABLES IN THE EVENT OF FIRE PROPERTIES OF ELECTRIC CABLES IN THE EVENT OF FIRE. ADVANTAGES OF E90/E30 SYSTEM. Functional integrity of cable system The most demanding method for checking functional properties of cables in the event of fire is a large-scale test method for testing functional integrity of a cable system. There are not only the cables themselves, but also the complete cable system tested in this case. The test includes cables, cable supports and connecting elements. They are installed in a big test chamber in which conditions similar to real fire event are being maintained by means of large burners. No European test method been developed for this test so far. 4. Reaction to Fire Performance of Electric Cables Measurement of released heat and smoke at flame spread test It is important to know how much heat is released from cables during burning and how the cables contribute in general to an evolving fire. This property is established in a complex test upon which the cables are classified in so called Euro classes for reaction to fire. These classes and pertinent requirements are given in the Commission Decision 2006/751/EC. The test is specified in the following standard: EN Common test methods for cables under fire conditions - Heat release and smoke production measurement on cables during flame spread test. B2 ca, C ca, D ca, E ca, F ca 30 ma ZP 27/2008; STN ; DIN E30/E90/P30-R/P90-R/PS30/PS90 25 C 1 m/s O 2 20,95 CO 2 4, C Where running in the interiors, power cables and signal/data transmission cables are usually laid in cable support systems. They are composed of cable lines complete with all support elements such as trays, ladders, clamps, holders, etc. Fire resistance and functional integrity of the installation in whole must meet relevant related to safety levels for the persons, equipment and materials threatened by fire. In buildings and facilities with a higher risk of fire and high concentration of people (hospitals, leisure centres, shopping malls, airports, tunnels, subways, etc.), fire safety systems will enable proper and safe evacuation of persons and materials and the follow-up firefighting action by fire brigades. These buildings are protected by fire safety systems that must maintain their functional integrity over a certain period of time even in fire cases. However, most of the systems need a permanent supply of power and/or transmission of signals and data for proper functioning. Therefore, it is absolutely essential to maintain functional integrity of the complete cable system at the same time. We test the cable systems in line with the DIN standard requirements in test chambers, in which they are exposed to fire model scenarios. According to test results the cables are classified with functional integrity class and period over which they maintain their functional integrity. Due to absence of a European standard the designation of functional integrity classes may vary in national. The standard DIN distinguishes classes E30 and E90 according to functional integrity time in minutes. The test is passed successfully if no fault or interruption of wire occurs during the test. According to DIN , there are 4 standard support systems defined: Installation of cables on cable ladders Installation of cables on cable trays Installation of cables on single clamps Installation of cables on U-clamps with long trough Standard cable support systems have precisely defined parameters and dimensions and their great advantage is that the results of performed tests can be used for other systems. Cable certified for a standard support system of one manufacturer can be installed on a standard support system of another manufacturer. Because of big variety of projects, manufacturers of cable support systems produce huge quantities of non-standard cable support systems at more favourable prices with higher flexibility during the installation and possibly easier assembly. Their main disadvantage is that the test results are not transmittable, i.e. it is necessary to adhere to the manufacturer, type of cables and support systems, for which the type of installation has been tested.
