Boston University: 52,705 applications. 3,825 accepted. Average GPA = Average SAT score = Average ACT = 29. Pitzer College: 4,115 applications. 253 enrolled. Average GPA = Stanford: 42,167 applications. 2,145 admitted = 5.1% admit rate.

5 Request OFFICIAL transcripts in the Counseling Office by completing a transcript request form and/or Sign the clipboard on Mrs. Merley s desk to release your transcripts electronically. If applying through Common Application, be sure to sign the clipboard, as your transcript will up uploaded electronically. *Do NOT send transcripts to UW or EWU upon application.

6 Who do I ask? How many do I need? How are they sent? Request letters of recommendation from teachers/counselor at least FOUR WEEKS in advance of the due date.

7 Be concise. Tell a story, but be appropriate if using humor. Often times, this is your only opportunity to let your voice be heard by admissions officers. Share new information about who you are as a person, not a regurgitation of your resume. Write it, come back to it and have others read it before you send it. Proofread over and over again before you hit submit! Mr. McCarthy is presenting tonight on writing your College Essay (Session 3 in Rm. 204)

8 Visit the College s website EARLY in your Senior year to familiarize yourself with the application procedures To find information: Use Counseling Center catalogs Use Internet resources such as the WOIS website ( & BigFuture.org Meet with your Counselor to: Get your Class Rank and GPA Discuss where you re applying and request School Report to be completed and/or Recommendation.

12 Three Types of Applications Type A: those only requiring an official high school transcript Type B: those requiring you to selfreport your high school grades Type C: those requiring an official high school transcript, school report, and teacher/counselor recommendation(s)

13 Type A: CWU, Evergreen College, WSU, WWU Complete the online application Have SAT/ACT scores sent directly to the college Request an official transcript from your Counseling Tech. in the Counseling Office. Allow hours for processing.

14 Type B: University of Washington & Eastern Washington University Complete online application including the Core Subjects page Have SAT/ACT scores sent directly to UW or EWU. Do not request official transcript. Request an unofficial transcript to self-report your coursework completed.

15 Type C: Private Schools (Gonzaga, PLU, Saint Martin s, SPU, SU, Puget Sound, Whitman, Whitworth) Complete online application. Don t forget supplemental items! Invite counselor and teachers to submit forms online and upload letter/transcript. Allow four weeks to process. Sign the yellow clipboard in the Counseling Office to allow transcripts to be released electronically.

Attend National College Fair Oct. 31 / Nov 1 Take the SAT and/or ACT in the Spring Plan your courses carefully and be sure to do well in your classes this year! This year is what Colleges will use as your final grades to base their admissions decisions upon.
