PART II: Timeline and To Do List Resources Exams Events Please do not forget to pick up your family s college packet (one per family) please see Mrs. Robbins if you need an extra packet.
Where do you start?
Where do I find this info?
College Counseling Handbook
Handbook: Significant Pages
What is Naviance Family Connection? Naviance is a web-based resource that supports career and college planning Specific to U Prep See how your grades and test scores compare to previous college applicants Surveys and search functions help you navigate the college process Students and parents have separate but linked accounts
What is my Naviance password? Students received passwords and logged into Naviance a few weeks ago. Parents, your Naviance passwords are in your folders tonight on a yellow sheet of paper
How do I log in? Go to the U Prep website. Click Upper School Click College Counseling Click Naviance Family Connection Or log on at:
The Log-in Page looks like this: Click I need to register Enter the gibberish code on your sheet of paper Then create a username (the e- mail address you check the most) and a password (your choice).
Click on a school and learn all sorts of fun facts! How does your GPA compare to other applicants who were admitted? How many students from U Prep have applied in recent years? Did anybody enroll? Is there a representative from the school coming to U Prep? Sign up!
Click on graphs to see previous applicants from U Prep Once you have taken more standardized tests, the data will grow more interesting and useful. The graphs shows you the results of applicants based on their grades and test scores only not special talents, family background, or other extenuating circumstances that might impact your candidacy.
Graphs help set up realistic expectations Applying to Stanford: $90 application fee Lengthy application and supplemental essays Last year, there were 38,828 applicants and just over 5% admit rate realistically, if your red circle is nowhere near the green squares, you might want to consider other options.
doesn t this feel good? Applying to University of San Francisco: $55 application fee One short supplemental question Last year, there were 14,808 applications, 61% of which were accepted The red circle is surrounded by green squares. That s a good sign!

Where should you apply? A year from now, apply to between 6-12 schools. Don t fear the unknown We ll make sure you apply to likely, possible and reach schools. Right now, remain open-minded
The Visit Schedule
Visiting college representatives want to talk to YOU. Next week, we have: 37 colleges visiting. 16 students signed up to meet with a representative from USC 0 students for Trinity College Dublin, Manhattanville College, Rhodes College, Vanderbilt University, or Mt. Saint Mary s University.
Check out the visit schedule Do you have a free period? Is there a college visiting that you d like to learn more about? No commitment you can talk to a representative and that doesn t mean you have to apply.
Some Ground Rules on College Meetings Often times, the visiting representative is the actual person who will be reading your application for admission! Be an ambassador for U Prep Ask thoughtful questions Thank them for their visit If you are missing class, you MUST get permission from your teachers 24 hours in advance No more than 5 missed classes allowed Remember, most of these folks will be back next year
Parents: You have Homework, too Please fill out the Parent Questionnaire in Naviance Please sign the Release of Records form in your Family Access Module
