7 Foreword This list of learning resources identifies high-quality resources that have been recommended by the Ministry of Education to support the curriculum, Graphic Arts 20, 30. This list will be updated as new resources are recommended and older ones are no longer available. (CAN) indicates that a Canadian contributed to the development of the resource and/or that it includes Canadian content. (SK) indicates that a Saskatchewan person contributed to the development of the resource and/or that it includes Saskatchewan content. (FNMI) indicates that a First Nations, Métis, or Inuit person contributed to the development of the resource and/or that it includes First Nations, Métis, or Inuit content. Recommended Online Video Education Resources (ROVER) offers video programs that have been purchased by the ministry for use in PreK-12 schools. Each recommended program contains a hyperlink directly to the program and accompanying resources (if provided). The first part entitled Fundamentals of Graphic Design offers a foundation for discussion regarding specific applications. It includes an introduction that focuses on the visual communication profession, detailed coverage of two-dimensional design concepts, typography, creativity and concept development, the design process, visualization, and composition. The second part entitled Applications examines in-depth major design and advertising applications. Blackand-white photographs and drawings are used to illustrate the text. The expanded table of contents allows easy access to the short one- or two-page sections in each chapter. 17 Six Tips for Graphic Design Sizzle (CORE) With guidance from a teacher, the Middle Level students portrayed in this short video create a poster that includes important information and catches the attention of their classmates. The suggestions given in the program include the following: Use graphics because a picture says 1,000 words. Group facts in separate boxes (divide and conquer). Answer the five W s (who, what, where, when, and why). Use the Z formula which follows the natural progression of the readers eyes. Reverse the font and catch the readers attention (e.g., white on black, yellow on black). Avoid serif fonts (forget the feet). This program would be best suited for the Middle Level survey courses.
