They help idividuals ad families strugglig today ad ivest i social chages to prevet problems tomorrow. OUR VISION Our visio is captured i our sloga, LIVE UNITED. We believe that as idividuals, families ad commuities we are stroger if we support each other, especially i momets of vulerability. We provide a way for people to coect ad tur their geerosity ito large-scale good. Homelessess has icreased dramatically. Poverty is shiftig to the suburbs ad growig, particularly amog childre ad youth. 35% of low-icome childre eter kidergarte ready to lear, ad high school graduatio rates for low-icome youth are less tha 70%. The regio has at least 15,000 youth who have dropped out of high school ad are t workig. All of these issues disproportioately affect people of color, icludig may of the regio s recet immigrats ad refugees. Reachig Higher I the last decade Uited Way of Kig Couty has played a leadig role i liftig thousads of people out of homelessess, preparig thousads of low-icome childre for success i school, ad esurig that thousads of vulerable families could meet basic eeds durig the Great Recessio ad its aftermath. Yet acute problems remai, ad we must get to eve greater impact. Here s how: Be eve more focused, cocetratig o issues that affect the most vulerable ad o which we ca have measurable ifluece. Part of this will be takig accout of how may problems disproportioately affect commuities of color ad, workig closely with those affected, creatig ad fudig solutios that eable greater equity. Geerate more resources. I our icreasigly wealthy regio we have the opportuity to attract more support. To succeed we will eed to commuicate what we do more powerfully, deepe our coectios to existig supporters, ad create paths for ew people to meet ad egage with us outside the workplace. Digital chaels will be key. Exert more leverage. We will cotiue to multiply our impact beyod those dollars we raise ad ivest. We will mobilize thousads of voluteers ad their skills for a multitude of roles. We will rally peer fuders aroud a commo visio. We will help retur more state ad federal tax moey to the commuity. With help from ifluetial voluteers, we will effectively advocate for specific chages to public policy ad systems that will beefit the most vulerable. 3 PARENT SUPPORT. Helpig parets succeed as their child s first, best teachers will be cetral. Our sigature paret-support effort will remai the Paret-Child Home Program, a highly successful evidece-based program for very low-icome, socially isolated families. Those served iclude youg sigle parets, immigrat ad refugee families strugglig i a ew culture, ad families experiecig homelessess. Sice 2010 we have drive a five-fold expasio to 1,000 families ad are havig growig success i geeratig the exteral support (from public levies, school districts ad other philathropies) to keep the program strog. BETTER CHILD CARE AND ATTENTION TO DEVELOPMENTAL DELAYS. Alogside our paret-support ivestmets, we will make targeted grats to improve the availability ad quality of child care ad preschool for low-icome workig families. Ad we will put moey ito programs that succeed i detectig ad treatig developmetal delays very early i a child s life, whe they are most easily overcome. GAUGING SUCCESS. 4 SUPPORTING YOUTH Tees ad youg adults who ve dropped out of school are o the path to get their GEDs ad lear job skills. OLDER YOUTH. Our sigature iitiative is Recoectig Youth, desiged to help youg people who have dropped out of school ear their high-school equivalecy ad the gai the skills ad credetials for a solid career. The program is aother example of usig Uited Way dollars to leverage other resources, as our ivestmet lets the commuity fully tap a available stream of state dollars for this purpose. SCHOOL-AGE YOUTH. We will cotiue workig actively to keep youth i school ad o a path to graduatio. Our fudig will target programs that foster social-emotioal skills ad the ability to persevere ad make good choices. GAUGING SUCCESS. By 2020 we seek to: Egage 50 % of discoected youth, 16 to 21-yearolds, i a program that leads to highschool equivalecy ad career skills. (2015 = 15,000 discoected youth ad about 10% gettig such help) 60 % of youth of color i the program complete 45 post-secodary credits. YEAR 1 UNITED WAY GOAL: 1,605 youth formally egaged i gettig their high-school equivalecy ad career skills. 5 INCREASING FINANCIAL SECURITY. Our sigature effort will remai our Free Tax Preparatio Campaig. It uses itesively traied Uited Way voluteers to help workig families prepare their taxes for free ad secure the credits ad deductios they qualify for, otably the Eared Icome Tax Credit (EITC). The EITC ca be worth thousads of dollars to a idividual family ad is widely see as the atio s most potet ati-poverty tool. MAKING SURE PEOPLE HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT. Families who are strugglig to get by ofte ca t keep food o the table or are settlig for food that is cheap but utritioally poor. To help, Uited Way has log supported food baks ad other parts of the emergecy food system. We will cotiue to do so. Because of the cascade of beefits it brigs to child health, academic performace, family fiaces ad more, our sigature food effort i comig years will ceter o childhood utritio. We will expad our work to get all eligible kids school breakfast, luch ad after-school meals i the academic year, as well as summer meals whe school is out. While these efforts will require Uited Way fudig, they will also have a large multiplier effect by leveragig federal reveue streams that are uderutilized compared to other commuities ad states. By 2020 we seek to: KEEPING FAMILIES STABLE People have the tools to escape poverty, ad kids have access to utritious food every day. Help 50,000 people rise out of poverty Reduce the umber of school-aged childre i South Kig Couty who are food-isecure to 10 % (2015 = 20%) YEAR 1 UNITED WAY GOAL: 22,000 low-icome people access free tax preparatio services securig $30 millio i federal refuds, icludig $10 millio i Eared Icome Tax Credits. YEAR 1 UNITED WAY GOAL: 632,500 meals served to low-icome kids durig summer 2015; 3,000 studets beefit from schoolbased Nutritio Hubs. Twelve percet of people i Kig Couty live i poverty. These families are i a precarious state, ofte oly a paycheck or accidet away from huger, a utility cutoff, or eve homelessess.

We will cotiue to advocate for prevetig homelessess i the first place by stoppig the discharge of people from hospitals, jails ad foster care oto the streets. Ad i the case of foster youth, we will actively help idetify ad assist those youg people most likely to ed up homeless. BRIEF AND ONE-TIME. Whe someoe becomes homeless it is a persoal ad commuity crisis. Our sigature effort, Crisis Respose, will coect people to immediate services through outreach ad emergecy shelter, the first steps to gettig people ito housig. Navigators will work with people o the streets to fid immediate solutios that fit their idividual eeds from recoectig with family, to the moey for a security deposit or car repair, to a referral to a appropriate shelter. Backed by better data systems ad closer coordiatio amog providers, we will move people rapidly to housig ad services matched to their specific eeds, improvig the odds that homelessess wo t recur ad that it is brief ad oe-time. CHRONIC AND YOUTH HOMELESSNESS. We will cotiue to help people who have slipped ito chroic homelessess, drawig o the extesive etwork of housig ad supportive services we ad parters have established over the last decade. We will also cotiue our emphasis o youth homelessess, with a special focus o prevetig homelessess amog former foster youth. GAUGING SUCCESS. Three commuity-level metrics will show our progress. Movig these metrics will require the coordiated efforts of other players as well.
