2 GUESTS OF HONOR AT THE DOC CORNER BRUNCH IDFA - International Documentary Film Festival ALLY DERKS started the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) in 1988 and has served as its director since Along with selecting films for IDFA, Derks has been responsible for retrospective programs including ones on Cuban, Kazakh, Lithuanian, Palestinian/ Israeli and Polish documentaries. Derks is also director of and head of the selection committee for the IDFA Bertha Fund, supporting documentary filmmakers in developing countries. She has been on juries at prestigious festivals, and has won several awards for her contribution to the documentary field, including Hot Docs Doc Mogul Award in Netherlands CPH:DOX - Copenhagen Int l Documentary Film Festival TINE FISCHER founded and heads the CPH:DOX - Copenhagen Int l Documentary Film Festival since She is also the director and founder of CPH:LAB, an international talent development and production program. For the last ten years, she has been involved in the contemporary art scene as co-owner of the leading Scandinavian art gallery Andersen s Contemporary and as curator of a number of exhibitions. She is also the owner of Fischer Film, specialized in art cinema and international co-production. Denmark TABLE 1 TABLE 2 ANTIPODE SALES & DISTRIBUTION NATALIA ARSHAVSKAYA joined the Antipode team in 2014 with an experience of almost ten years in audiovisual production. Being an author and producer of creative documentaries herself, she now successfully heads the Documentary department at Antipode where she has worked with one of the most interesting names of the Swedish film scene, Måns Månsson, on his recent STRANDED IN CANTON, and with Harvard alumni J.P. Sniadecki on his 21st century China visual saga THE IRON MINISTRY. Russia DOC & FILM INTERNATIONAL DANIELA ELSTNER is the President of Doc & Film International, founded in 1996, handling international sales for documentaries and feature films. The company s catalogue titles contain documentaries by Frederick Wiseman, Roberto Minervini, Sébastien Lifshitz, Gianfranco Rosi, Avi Mograbi and more. Doc & Film s 2015 Cannes line-up includes THE OTHER SIDE by Roberto Minervini (Un Certain Regard) and ALLENDE MI ABUELO ALLENDE by Marcia Tambutti Allende (Quinzaine des Réalisateurs). France CINEPHIL TABLE 3 PHILIPPA KOWARSKY established Cinephil in 1997, a sales and co-productions company, strategizing, distributing and selling documentaries world-wide. Cinephil also acts as a co-producer and executive producer, raising finance for many of its films and following through projects to their completion. In 2012 Philippa was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for THE GATEKEEPERS. Cinephil s current line-up includes Cannes Classics BY SIDNEY LUMET, by Nancy BUIRSKI. Israel Nancy BUIRSKI, Director / Producer BY SIDNEY LUMET NANCY BUIRSKI is the Director/Producer of AFTERNOON OF A FAUN (World Premiere at the 51 st NY Film Festival, International Premiere at the 64 th Berlinale). She directed/ produced the Peabody, Emmy Awardwinning THE LOVING STORY shortlisted for the Academy Awards and is a producer of LOVING a narrative version of the documentary directed by Jeff Nichols. She will next direct ENDANGERED, a live-action/ animated narrative. Buirski founded and was the Director of the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival for 10 years. USA Stig BJÖRKMAN, Director INGRID BERGMAN IN HER OWN WORDS STIG BJÖRKMAN, born 1938 in Sweden, is a writer, director and film critic. He has previously made several films about cinema including BUT FILM IS MY MISTRESS (2010) and TRANCEFORMER A PORTRAIT OF LARS VON TRIER (1997). As a writer he has published interview books with Ingmar Bergman, Woody Allen and Joyce Carol Oates among others. Between 1964 and 1972 he worked as chief editor for the Swedish film magazine Chaplin and has, over the years, contributed to Cahiers du Cinéma and Sight & Sound. Sweden TABLE 4 IMPACT PARTNERS GERALYN DREYFOUS has a wide, distinguished background in the arts and participates on numerous boards and initiatives. She is the founder of the Utah Film Center and cofounder of Impact Partners Film Fund with Dan Cogan. In 2013, Geralyn co-founded Gamechanger Films, a film fund dedicated to women directors. Geralyn was honored with the IDA s 2013 Amicus Award for her significant contribution to documentary filmmaking. Variety recognized Geralyn in their 2014 Women s Impact Report highlighting her work in the entertainment industry. USA

Prior to joining Participant, Weyermann had long-term stints as the Director of the Sundance Institute s Documentary Film Program and as the Director of the Open Society Institute s Arts and Culture Programs and the Soros Documentary Fund. USA JUSTFILMS - FORD FOUNDATION TABLE 6 Kent JONES, Director HITCHCOCK / TRUFFAUT CARA MERTES is currently Director of Ford Foundation s JustFilms. She funds content, networks and leadership fostering independent film/digital storytelling. She has served as Director, Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program and Fund and Exec. Producer of the POV documentary series on PBS, where she was awarded with multiple Emmy, George Foster Peabody, and dupont-columbia awards. She has executive produced several Oscar-nominated films, including STREET FIGHT, MY COUNTRY MY COUNTRY and THE BETRAYAL and led major Ford Foundation funding and support for Academy Award winner CITIZENFOUR. USA KENT JONES is the author of several books of criticism, has been a regular contributor to Film Comment magazine, and was selected as a 2012 Guggenheim Fellow. He has worked with Martin Scorsese on numerous documentaries as co-writer of MY VOYAGE TO ITALY, as writer/ director of VAL LEWTON: THE MAN IN THE SHADOWS produced and narrated by Scorsese, and as co-writer/ director with Scorsese of the Emmy-nominated and Peabody Awardwinning A LETTER TO ELIA. They are currently at work on a follow-up to MY VOYAGE TO ITALY. He co-wrote Arnaud Desplechin s JIMMY P. (Official Competition - Cannes 2013). Jones currently serves as Artistic Director of The World Cinema Foundation and is the Director of the New York Film Festival since USA Gabriel CLARKE, Director, Writer STEVE McQUEEN: THE MAN & LE MANS GABRIEL CLARKE is an award-winning journalist and film-maker. He trained as a news journalist, working in print, radio and TV before joining UK broadcaster ITV in Gabriel has won various Royal Television Society awards, whilst developing his documentary portfolio. He wrote and codirected CLOUGH (2008), WHEN PLAYBOYS RULED THE WORLD (2010) and THE FIGHT OF THEIR LIVES (2011). Between 2012 and 2014 Gabriel developed the Sports Life Stories series, awarded Sports Journalists Association Progamme of the Year in Gabriel is the son of the Film director Alan Clarke. USA Marcia TAMBUTTI ALLENDE, Director ALLENDE MI ABUELO ALLENDE Quinzaine des Réalisateurs MARCIA TAMBUTTI ALLENDE is Chilean- Mexican. She has studied biology at UNAM, and made a M.Sc. at Imperial College and the Natural History Museum, London. She has worked in biodiversity and communication of science issues. She lives in Chile since 2007, collaborates with the Salvador Allende Foundation (co-producer and curator of the app for Ipad Allende, voices 40 years after the coup d état), the Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity co-editing an innovative book on Darwin s Chilean trail and making her first feature film BEYOND MY GRAND-FATHER ALLENDE. Chile TABLE 7 TABLE 8 John McKENNA, Director, Producer STEVE McQUEEN: THE MAN & LE MANS JOHN MCKENNA is producer and director of STEVE MCQUEEN, THE MAN & LE MANS. He produced and directed several acclaimed television documentaries in the UK. He had previously teamed up with Gabriel Clark for THE FIGHT OF THEIR LIVES (BAFTA nominated in 2012). John also produced and directed the Grierson nominated CLOUGH (2009) and the motor racing documentary WHEN PLAYBOYS RULED THE WORLD (2011). John spent 13 years at ITV Sport, working his way up from runner to Creative Director, before going freelance in He has won several major awards throughout his sports broadcasting career. USA ERRANTE PRODUCCIONES ALLENDE MI ABUELO ALLENDE Quinzaine des Réalisateurs PAOLA CASTILLO is filmmaker and also founder of Chiledoc, organization created to give Chilean documentaries international exposure and promote their commercial development. She is a graduate from the San Antonio de los Baños International Film and TV School in Cuba and EURODOC. She has produced and directed full-length docu mentaries and TV series about culture and cinema. Her work has been awarded at local and international film festivals, and selected in Cannes, Berlinale, and IDFA, among others. She is a film professor at Universidad de Chile and Universidad Católica de Chile. Chile

4 CONNECT4CLIMATE - WORLD BANK GROUP LUCIA GRENNA heads the unit specializing in Communication for Climate Change at the World Bank Group s Global Engagement unit. She created Connect4Climate in 2011, realizing the overwhelming need for effective and engaging climate change communication. The initiative has since grown into a major global partnership of concerned individuals and committed organizations. She was the task manager for the First World Congress on Communication for Development that brought together for the first time more than 800 communication professionals to discuss how to mainstream development communication into development policies and practice. USA TABLE 9 CONNECT4CLIMATE - WORLD BANK GROUP DONALD RANVAUD has produced or exec. produced over 40 films especially in Latin America with directors like Walter Salles, Fernando Meirelles, Luiz Fernando Carvalho, Sergio Machado, Karim Ainouz, Rui Guerra, Pablo Trapero, Victor Gaviria and Paul Leduc, among others. He has been active in alternative distribution systems for films (riding the digital wave from the very beginning), and was affiliated to Wild Bunch sales right at the start. His commitments extend to the Indigenous film Circle (based in Keute keino Norway) and Medici nelle foreste among others. He has embraced enthusiastically the work of Connect4Climate under Lucia Grenna for the last three years. USA Daniel RAIM, Director HAROLD AND LILLIAN: A HOLLYWOOD LOVE STORY DANIEL RAIM is an Oscar-Nominated Director. He attended the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, where he studied under one of Alfred Hitchcock s most esteemed collaborators, Production Designer Robert F. Boyle. Daniel created a trilogy of documentaries about some of Hollywood s great behind the scenes masters including, THE MAN ON LINCOLN S NOSE (2001, Oscar-Nominated docu-mentary short); SOMETHING S GONNA LIVE (2010, Los Angeles Times Critics Pick) and HAROLD AND LILLIAN: A HOLLYWOOD LOVE STORY. USA João Pedro PLÁCIDO, Director VOLTA A TERRA JOÃO PEDRO PLÁCIDO was born in Lisbon in He began directing and shooting music videos at 19, and later attended the School of Theatre and Film in Portugal and the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehn in Germany. He has been working in features, shorts, documentaries and commercials all around the world since 2000, first as a camera assistant, and since 2009 as a cinematographer. VOLTA A TERRA is his first film. Portugal TABLE 10 TABLE 11 DOGWOOF ANDY WHITTAKER is the Founder of Dogwoof, establishing Dogwoof as the leading film distributor of documentary films. Dogwoof started as a UK all rights distributor. In 2011 became a global sales agent for documentary with titles including BLACKFISH, DIOR & I and CARTEL LAND. Andy s main area of expertise is digital, and is responsible for Dogwoof s partnerships including Netflix and initiatives including Popup Cinema. UK O SOM E A FÚRIA VOLTA A TERRA LUÍS URBANO was born in Águeda in In 1996, he founded the cultural production cooperative Curtas Metragens, CRL, the organization behind the renowned Vila do Conde Int l Short Film Festival. He has been one of the Festival s directors and spearheaded the Portuguese Short Film Agency from 2000 to In 2005, he joined Sandro Aguilar s production company O Som e a Fúria as partner and general manager. Since then, he has produced fiction features, documentaries and shorts, from directors such as Manoel de Oliveira, Miguel Gomes, Sandro Aguilar, João Nicolau, among others. Portugal Asif KAPADIA, Director AMY Official Selection, Midnight Screenings TABLE 12 THE FILM SALES COMPANY Award winning filmmaker ASIF KAPADIA is known for his visually striking films and exploration of the lives of outsiders, characters living in timeless, extreme and unforgiving circumstances or landscapes. Kapadia directed the universally acclaimed SENNA, the highest grossing UK documentary of all time winning two BAFTAs, the World Cinema Audience Award at Sundance 2011 and the Evening Standard and British Independent Film Awards for Best Documentary. Kapadia s feature film credits include THE WARRIOR (2001), winner of two BAFTAs, and FAR NORTH (2004). Kapadia is currently in production on the drama ALI AND NINO. UK JASON ISHIKAWA has been with NY-based The Film Sales Company since 2009 and is currently Senior Director. He is responsible for the acquisitions of new titles, international sales and financing of the Company s slate of narrative and documentary films. During his tenure, the Company has represented over 100 documentaries, including films by Marshall Curry, D.A. Pennebaker & Chris Hegedus, Stacy Peralta, Oliver Stone, and Lucy Walker. The Company s Cannes line-up includes SEMBENE! by Samba Gadjigo and Jason Silverman, selected in the Cannes Classics section. USA

5 GUESTS OF HONOR AT THE DOC CORNER BRUNCH Rithy PANH, Director, Writer President of the Jury L ŒIL D OR RITHY PANH, Cambodian Director and Writer, arrived in Paris in 1980 after escaping the Khmer Rouge camps. He studied at IDHEC and moved on to becoming one of the most acclaimed documentary filmmakers, with major works such as SITE 2 (1989), S-21: THE KHMER ROUGE KILLING MACHINE (2003), THE MISSING PICTURE (2013), and his latest film, FRANCE IS OUR HOMELAND (2015). His films have been nominated and awarded internationally, including in Cannes and at the Oscars. In 2012, Rithy Panh published his acclaimed autobiography THE ELIMINATION, co-written with Christophe Bataille. Cambodge TABLE 13 Julie BERTUCCELLI, Director President of the SCAM JULIE BERTUCCELLI was Assistant Director to Otar Iosseliani, Krzysztof Kielowski, Rithy Panh... before turning to documentary filmmaking, learning with the Ateliers Varan. She made her debut with LA FABRIQUE DES JUGES, while her feature debut came in 2003, with SINCE OTAR LEFT, winner of the Cannes Critics Week Grand Prize and the Cesar Award for Best First Film. Her second feature, L ARBRE, was in Official Selection in Cannes She has directed many documentaries, with her latest, SCHOOL OF BABEL, being selected and sold around the world. She is now working on her third feature. Since June 2013, Julie Bertuccelli is the first woman President of the SCAM. France NARRATIO FILMS JE SUIS LE PEUPLE MALIK MENAÏ has worked with Thierry Garrel at ARTE France, at the Cinéma du Réel festival and at 13 Production. Then, from 2008 to 2012, he produced about 15 documentary films at Mosaïque Films for ARTE and France Televisions. In 2014, he established his own company, Narratio Films, with Audrey Ferrarese and Maurice Ribière. He produced JE SUIS LE PEUPLE by Anna Roussillon, awarded in many festivals. He is currently developing various feature documentaries, including a Damien Bertrand film about Annett Wolf, a Danish filmmaker who has directed 150 films on great artists and directors from the 1960s-1980s. France TABLE 14 HAUTLESMAINS PRODUCTIONS JE SUIS LE PEUPLE KARIM AITOUNA is a Moroccan director and producer. He created Hautlesmains Productions with Thomas Micoulet. Their first feature documentaries are JE SUIS LE PEUPLE (Anna Roussillon), awarded in many festivals, and LA NUIT ET L ENFANT (David Yon), selected at the Berlinale Forum. They are currently working on the upcoming films of Egyptian director Fawzi Saleh (A FISH KILLED TWICE) and of the Polish collective MML (SANS BRUIT). As a director, Karim AITOUNA has received the Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Résidence Lumières - Institut Français Awards, for his film UNE PLACE SOUS LE SOLEIL. France Emilie BRISAVOINE, Director PAULINE S ARRACHE EMILIE BRISAVOINE has studied Applied Arts, and after an experience as Designer, started making drawings on the world, women and dogs. She then appeared in LA BATAILLE DE SOLFERINO by Justine Triet, and acted in PEINE PERDUE by Arthur Harari. PAULINE S ARRACHE is her first feature, a documentary on her family. She also teaches Applied Arts. France TABLE 15 BATHYSPHERE PRODUCTIONS PAULINE S ARRACHE NICOLAS ANTHOME, 36, has produced 40 films with his company bathysphere productions over the last 9 years, including: BOVINES OU LA VRAIE VIE DES VACHES by Emmanuel Gras (nominated for best documentary at the 2013 César), PEINE PERDUE by Arthur Harari (awarded in Pantin, Clermont, Brive and Belfort), JULIEN by Gaël Lépingle (Grand Prize at the 2010 FID Marseille), and CHRONIQUES DE 2005 (Virgil Vernier s first feature film).
