Festival Scope s main objective is to support independent cinema and filmmakers by increasing access and reducing costs for all parties through an innovative service. 3 Increased Visibility for Films Festival Scope offers a selection from the festival s programming on its website. After the screening(s) at a Festival, a film professional member of Festival Scope can access: the film available to screen online in secure streaming the film s synopsis, technical information, director s statement, contact details to the rights holder downloadable photos, posters, press book, interviews, etc. videos (trailer, clips, making of, producer s or seller s pitch) quotes and articles from the press that help promote the film, awards listings, etc. previous films by the filmmakers (especially in advance of co-production markets or festivals such as Directors Fortnight and Critics Week) 3

5 Strategy and Objectives Festival Scope adapts to your strategy and presents the film online for the duration you wish (up until the following edition of the Festival). If need be certain territories and professional categories can be excluded. You can also decide to approve each screening request on a case by case basis. Examples of possible restrictions: TV buyers may not have access to a film which is available for distributors or vice-versa All users can watch a film except those operating in a specific country (depending on your commercial strategy or the film s rights situation) Distributors and festival programmers have direct access to your film, screening requests from other professional categories need to be approved by you on a case by case. A professional category will be able to watch a film from a specific date, while others only starting days later. Festival Scope allows a greater number of professionals to watch the films when they can and want to, thus maximizing the spin-off from the press and the awareness of the film. The aim of the service is to create a virtuous circle in the business allowing certain films to break out beyond their native countries and find more visibility with distributors. Even films with the smallest budget are highlighted, without additional costs for the rights holder. Festival Scope is a complementary to sales agents, so both the films represented by an international sales agent and those without one will benefit from the additional exposure. Festival Scope screenings on demand are comparable to a private market screening or to promotional DVDs, so they don t affect the «premiere» status of the film with an eye to future festivals or TV broadcast for example. Festival Scope offers the festival programming on demand according to your needs. Users of Festival Scope are: Distributors, Festival Programmers, Sales Agents, TV & VOD buyers, Producers, Exhibitors, Organizations (promotion, markets ), Specialized Press & Media, Filmmakers (only those presenting a film on Festival Scope). You can decide at any moment to exclude any of these categories for screening your film. 5

6 Specifications & Security Guarantees Specifications of the service Security guarantees The website is in English. Films are available in their original language with English subtitles. Films are streamed using secure Flash technology with a cutting-edge video player that has been custom-designed for the needs of this service. For example, it is possible to replay a film from where you left off the next time you log in. The site also has other interactive services allowing users to create a list of films you want to screen, take notes related to the films, contact the rights holders and filmmakers directly via the site, etc. Film professionals pay a yearly individual membership fee of 70 which will give them access to view films and to all the other features on the site. Rights holders of films have free access to the screening reports and they can invite professionals to watch their film(s) even if they are not members. Festival Scope uses the best available technology on the market to give rights holders the necessary security guarantees for protected streaming: films cannot be copied or downloaded. Festival Scope is only accessible to registered film professionals. Each membership is closely monitored. Professionals have a personal access code (associated with their professional ) and the name of each user appears on the screen as a film is being watched (unless the rights holder prefers otherwise). In addition, each user can only watch a film once, in order to prevent sharing of personal access codes with other parties. 6

8 The Festival Scope Team Festival Scope is an independent service, supported by the RIAM network (Research and Innovation in Audiovisual and Multimedia) cofinanced by CNC and Oséo as well as by MEDIA Pilot Projects and MEDIA Mundus. The team is made up by film lovers with concrete and significant experience of the international film industry. Festival Scope was created by: Alessandro Raja He was Director of Sales at CELLULOID DREAMS up until the development of this project. He arrived in Paris in 2003 to work for COPRODUCTION OFFICE, after having worked in London for five years, at first for a festival (THE ITALIAN FESTIVAL), later at a cinema theatre (THE EVERYMAN) and then finally for an independent distributor (ARTIFICIAL EYE). Mathilde Henrot She held the role of Director of Sales at MK2, where she worked for eight years, also handling acquisitions for international sales. She left MK2 to develop Festival Scope.
