1 FY 16 SERK Funded Credit and Credentialing Courses 1199C Training and Upgrading Fund District 1199C Training and Upgrading Fund prepares people without degrees in developing career pathways. District 1199C offers CDA programs as well as prep courses to aid students in meeting the 8 th grade reading level requirement needed in order to take the CDA assessment. CDA courses taken through 1199C will matriculate into college credits at Community College of. Skills emphasized include child observation, curriculum planning for diverse learners, advocacy, and interpersonal and communication abilities. 3 Child Care Professionals Network (CCPN) CCPN has partnered with SERK to provide CDA, SAPC and college courses for ECE practitioners. CCPN provides high quality, relationship based training that considers barriers and hardships practitioners face in providing childcare. At the completion of the CDA course, each student is prepared to apply for CDA assessment. Trainers are available to support the students in every capacity; through mentoring, conversation, instruction, networking, partnering current students with previous students, providing supplemental material and working one on one. 4 Training Resources Unlimited Training Resources Unlimited will assess computer skills and collect writing samples of all participants prior to beginning the CDA course. Instructors will also view participants PD history to ascertain levels of background knowledge of participants that may support coursework. The actual CDA course is structured as a face toface course (coupled with field experiences) and will meet twice per week to accumulate the 120 instructional hours. Participants will receive information via classroom instruction, group projects and individual based projects. Students will receive support in preparation for the CDA assessment throughout this course. Participants are expected to have access to a computer as well as basic computer skills. NCC prepares students for their CDA assessment by providing a nine credit specialized diploma which integrates into the associate degree, allowing students to move seamlessly along the PA Keys Career Lattice. The courses are written with the credential requirements integrated into the assignments for the CDA and PA School Age Professional Credential and the Leadership for Early Childhood Program Directors meets the education requirements for the PA Director s Credential. Upon completion of each credential, the practitioners are provided with the information required to apply for their NCC Specialized Diploma. This information is included in each course that provides the next step for obtaining their credential. Each CDA student is visited at minimum three times for the purposes of not only ensuring the smooth operation of the class but also to inform and answer questions concerning transforming the CDA experience into college credits and achieving a degree in Early Childcare Education. They will guide the student through the application process and waive the application fee for all SERK Funded CDA students. Manor College serves a demographically wide range of students and can anticipate differing needs and approaches to optimize the student s experience. The CDA instructors make themselves available to students beyond the classroom by providing them with personal contact information and accommodating them in personalized sessions and counseling. 6 Tiferet Bet Israel Arcadia University Arcadia University is an undergraduate and graduate institution that offers the Director s Credential. Instructors discuss the Director Credential submission process and are available to help students even after the course ends. Many of the faculties are not only professors, but also early childhood professionals who have been through the process and can share their personal experiences. In addition, program coaches are available work with students on the application process, are well versed in the Rising Stars quality systems, and work with students to ensure they are meeting their goals as they move up the levels. Class time is spent on how to improve parental involvement, how to improve leadership qualities, how to assess teachers, how to better deal with multiculturalism within various contexts, and how to become stronger educational leaders, whether it's in the classroom or a center. A great deal of time is also spent on the early childhood standards and best practices for implementing them into the childcare settings. Courses are offered in a blended manner meeting on three Saturdays from 9:00am 4:00 pm over 9 weeks with online work in between. Arcadia offers all three Director Credential courses (three credits each, totaling nine). Current tuition is $720 per credit, and they offer a 1/3 discount to all early childhood students. 7 Penn Literacy Network The Penn Literacy Network (PLN) is a comprehensive professional development/curricular enhancement/school reform program based in The University of Pennsylvania s Graduate School of Education. 8 Professional Development Dimensions (MELC) For the past 27 years, Professional Development Dimensions has provided PD and TA to school age practitioners. PD Dimensions pro actively addresses the challenge that most students face to complete their work and obtain their credential; successfully balancing their coursework and their job, by structuring the course to include weekly SAPC submission requirements. Additionally, the curriculum and course design builds in expert and peer feedback to support students in attaining course objectives and credential requirements through a streamlined approach. Supporting program staff in meeting the career lattice requirements, pursuing professional goals, and achieving academic credentials by showing administrators how to guide their staff through various professional credentialing processes and support staff in pursuing resources is a crucial part of their work as technical assistance consultants.
