6 Higher Education Support The Plan General Transfer Pathway for the ECE Workforce Admissions requirements are streamlined and reflect the same primary steps to admissions (ex. Process & dates) Step by Step instructions that support Applicants to prepare for admissions within a 1-4 month span from the time they determine they are Ready or super close to Ready Flexible Admissions dates so that Applicants can enroll any term Collaborative Support Services Regular Higher Education Fairs in North, South & Mid-County covering Admissions and Financing your Education Higher Education Brochure which outlines each programs features, costs, tuition discounts, scholarships and of course points of contact and covers Federal & State Financial Aid, Educational Loan options and seeking external dollars such as Career Development or Community

7 Higher Education Support Go Higher Education Readiness Survey - Gateway to support from the ECEWC First 5 Staff will review the surveys and work directly with the partner program to refer Ready applicants First 5 Staff will support Academic Not Ready participants to see the CC counselors as a point of contact for becoming ready & support Financial/Undecided Not Ready to talk to review the Higher Ed Brochure and attend a Higher Education Fair Funding Each program offers financial support in the form of fee waivers, tuition discounts and/or scholarships. Each of these will be highlighted in the brochure and emphasized at the fair The STAR Project offered $1200 of additional funding towards a Bachelor s Degree The ECE Workforce Development Scholarship provided $3,000 scholarships for The ECEWC will promotes financing options which include financial support from the program, STAR Project, Loans & external funding opportunities

11 The STAR Project Program Findings Classroom Assessment Scoring System CLASS PreK Participants enjoyed learning about CLASS and requested more information Participant Improvement Plans varied from simplistic to thorough, however a large proportion reflected general understanding of the tool Child Development Permits Participants better understood Professional Growth Advising Requirements (compared to last year when participants struggled to meet PG requirements) Program Communication A proportion of participants struggled to check or respond to program s Participants reported enjoyed the Automated calling system (implemented in Year 2)

19 Acceptable training The following trainings have been approved by First 5 California for this option: Preschool Foundations: Volume 1 and 2 Preschool Curriculum Framework Learning and Development System ECE Competencies English Learners Guide (PEL) DRDP 2010 PITC CSEFEL Child Care at its Best (Licensed FCC only) Trainings must be provided by a pre-approved CDE trainer such as: West Ed / Regional Partners for Quality (PITC) CPIN

20 Availability of training Participants and various ECE stakeholders were asked to complete a Community Training Plan Survey earlier this year to support the CTP workgroup to prioritize trainings for Year respondents, findings were inconclusive Advising Sessions revealed that providers were most interested in topics related to Children with Challenging Behaviors & Physical Development Santa Barbara County is eligible for 3 CPIN Trainings, all 3 have been booked for Year 2 for a total of 16.5 eligible CDE Hours in SBC. CPIN will offer an additional 9 eligible CDE Hours in SLO/Ventura. Additional Trainings are being negotiated for CSEFEL, SHINE, etc. It is anticipated that participants will have a minimum of CDE hours available in Year 2 from October to April. Training availability will be posted online and sent via to participants enrolled in this option

21 Education Option 3 Levels 6 units + Priority: Core 24 ECE units Supports degree attainment, advancement on the child development matrix and professional growth through units

22 Education Option Minimum 6 units determined by: the Student Education Plan developed by a college counselor and CARES Plus priority coursework transcript evaluation completed by STAR Advisor or Tom Heiduk, Credentials Analyst professional growth plan for Level 1 Courses must be completed in priority order with ECE Core as primary ESL for credit and non credit is acceptable Pre-requisites acceptable for ECE Pre-requisites for GE and GE coursework is secondary to CORE/ESL CDE Trainings offered as units and ECE non CORE also accepted
