4 Service oriented architecture SAP (Systems Application and Products in Data Processing) was founded in 1972) It is the recognized leader in providing collaborative business solutions for all industry types and every major market. SAP is the largest European software company and is headquartered in Walldorf, Germany. It is also the third largest independent software provider in the world and ranks after Microsoft, IBM and Oracle in terms of market capitalization. With regard to revenue, SAP is the leading business application and Enterprise Resource Planning solution software provider. Products from SAP focus on ERP, which it helped to pioneer, and MySAP ERP is the main product of this company. Companies that want to respond quickly to the changing business requirements require an IT landscape that provides greater flexibility. This flexibility is delivered by SAP through several platforms. Enterprise service-oriented architecture (enterprise SOA) is one such platform. This is a blueprint for a versatile, adaptable and open IT architecture for developing services-based enterprise-scale business solutions. With SAP NetWeaver as a technical foundation, enterprise SOA moves IT architectures to a high level of compliance. It also moves companies closer to the vision of real-time enterprises. 5 Service oriented architecture refers to the set of unique software platforms that enable the interactions of different types of software application or even different application users. In most large organizations, hundreds of different business processes are carried out at the same time, some of which are independent whereas the others are dependent on each other. Companies upgrade their IT systems according to the newest technology available, but it is often not possible to renew everything due to financial constraints. The best way out for such organizations is to opt for service-oriented architecture that provides an integrated environment, wherein different applications or users can work together even if they are based on different computing platforms or are using different systems. By opting for service oriented architecture, organizations can not only make the best possible use of existing applications and systems but also save costs related to the implementation of new systems or applications. Implementing service-oriented architecture is supposed to be a good investment because its benefits can be derived for many years to come. 6 SOA and DNS Together The Internet has introduced a whole new world, wherein you will get to encounter a lot of different terms to better understand how certain processes work. Examples of which are IP addresses and domain names. Before you visit your favorite site on the web, usually you have to type the web address on the AD- DRESS field of the browser. This is called the site s domain name, which is a readable format also called as hostname (EG IP addresses on the other hand are numeric character values assigned to a certain site (EG ), making it possible for the computer to recognize the request being sent to the server. Now the process of translating IP addresses to domain names and vice versa is called as domain name system or DNS.Since web services and service oriented architecture (SOA) are linked together to create opportunities in developing systems that can adapt to business requirements in a cost-effective and timely manner, thus the birth of virtual networking services. A part of this concept is the DNS, wherein a network node should be allowed on the name server for the purpose of maintaining known and stable names. Even if there are changes on the location and address, the user can still access the web service because of the concealed applications that runs the DNS, resulting to value-added features such as caching. The abstraction layer of the DNS provides an efficient approach in supporting platform implementations and organizational structure, which is one of the benefits that the business can get through service oriented architecture (SOA). SOA Watch Businesses that are planning to implement service oriented architecture (SOA) need to select only the best solution provider companies, or experienced SOA professionals. To achieve this, businesses need to form a specialized team of existing employees whose main job will be to conduct SOA watch over existing service providers, their domain experience, and their current live projects or 6

The main objective of conducting an SOA watch is to assess the reliability of a particular SOA service provider and to check whether the offered services will be applicable in the organization or not.
