We are now preparing for the next phase of our development with the relocation of all DIT activities to an integrated, state-of-the-art campus in Dublin s city centre, and to the development of the Technological University of Dublin. College of Business The College of Business is located at the heart of the central business district in downtown Dublin. The College provides teaching and research opportunities to PhD level and currently has over five thousand registered students. We occupy a state of the art Business School facility on Aungier St, just off the corner of St Stephens Green. Our twenty thousand square metre complex provides an enhanced learning and research environment with state of the art facilities and a leading edge information technology capability. The Library is probably the finest Business Library in these islands offering our staff, our students, visiting researchers and business partners access to a comprehensive range of sources and databases and excellent online resources. Job Description Role Overview The College of Business is seeking to recruit a Marketing Officer for the College, on a fixed term basis. A marketing communications/communications professional with high calibre writing skills and expertise in the use of social media to provide information and real-time responses will assist the College in capitalising on promotional and marketing opportunities. The purpose of this role is to attract and secure post-graduate students along with promoting all aspects of the College s offerings in education and continuous professional development. The appointee will contribute to the attainment of international accreditations by the business school and will play a key role in leveraging the benefits of such accreditations. This is a new role and will require an energised selfmotivated person who will work on their own initiative and work with the College team to further develop its marketing strategy and tactics. The post-holder will work with the constituent Schools of the College to further develop and implement the marketing plans for the College of Business and will design and implement a digital and social media strategy for marketing purposes and stakeholder engagement. The College marketing plan will support the recruitment of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, will underpin the internationalisation strategy and will help position the College as the venue of choice for executive education and the partner of choice for Irish and international corporates. This post-holder will also manage the social media presence of the Schools and the College so that the College can engage with current and future students and also with graduates of our programmes. 3

4 Reporting to the Head of the Graduate Business School the Marketing Officer will play a key role in marketing the offerings of the College to its stakeholders. The post-holder will work closely with the DIT Public Affairs team to ensure that the quality of the marketing collateral developed and the offline and online presence is in keeping with DIT communication, advertising, and visual identity guidelines and contributes to the enhancement of the overall profile of DIT. The post may be re-assigned at the discretion of the President, in line with operational requirements. The role requires the post-holder to liaise with a range of Institute staff as well as employers, agencies and other key stakeholders. Excellent communication skills are required, with the confidence and ability to deal with a variety of queries. The appointee should have experience in developing and implementing marketing strategies and will provide evidence of superior writing skills. Direct experience in the creation of marketing collateral and the management of web presence is highly desirable. This is a fixed term post for two years on the basis that this period will be required to research, develop and implement the digital and social media strategy for the College. At the end of the two year period it is expected that the competencies will be embedded at School level. Principal Accountabilities The Marketing Officer role will include the following duties: Contribute to the development of and manage the implementation of a Marketing Strategy and Plan to achieve an increase in postgraduate numbers and support the continued recruitment of high quality undergraduate students. Develop and manage marketing collateral of high quality, to support the identity and positioning of the College and launch high profile initiatives. Be responsible for producing a wide range of written communication related to marketing, public relations and sales objectives in both traditional and online media. Engage with and support internal and external marketing and promotion activities. Develop and implement a social media strategy and presence appropriate to a leading provider of marketing and social media education. Act as a liaison and catalyst with the College of Business and the Stakeholder community locally and internationally. Outcomes: Establish the identity of the College as first choice destination for students, international applicants, corporate training managers and the broad stakeholder community. Make a significant contribution to the achievement and leveraging of international accreditations. Provide a professional marketing and communications platform to support existing programmes and to manage the effective launch of new high profile initiatives. Be a first point of reference for information on business education, research and College programmes for the broader stakeholder community. Attraction of high quality students at undergraduate and postgraduate level is key to the vision of DIT and this post holder will assist in achieving this aim. 4

5 Person Specification The ideal candidate will demonstrate the appropriate mix of knowledge, experience, skills, talent and abilities as outlined below: Knowledge At least a pass in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent (essential) A thorough knowledge and understanding of marketing strategies and tactics in an educational context. The ability to lead in the development and implementation of marketing plans. Full currency in the strategic and technical aspects of online marketing, social media and the use of analytics. Honours Degree in a relevant discipline e.g. business, management, communications, digital media or cognate discipline Experience Minimum three years business experience, which should include marketing and communication accountabilities. Possess a satisfactory knowledge of the higher education environment Experience in analysis of data to inform and develop marketing initiatives Extensive writing experience for a range of media Skills, talents & abilities Excellent administrative and organisational skills Excellent writing skills for both traditional and online media, evidenced by a portfolio of work to be presented at interview. Excellent communication skills in one-to-one and group situations and the ability to present to a variety of fora. Confidence in liaising with senior managers with excellent influencing skills. High level of motivation, creativity enthusiasm, drive and energy. Eligibility to compete Applicants who do not meet the requirements below cannot be considered for shortlisting. Citizenship / Permit Requirement: Eligibility to compete is open to candidates who are citizens of the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland. The EEA comprises member states of the European Union along with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Other candidates may be eligible to compete subject to their having or obtaining an appropriate work permit for the nature and duration of the position. 5

Terms and Conditions of Employment A full statement of terms and conditions of employment will be given to the successful applicant in accordance with Terms of Employment (Information) Acts 1994 and The main terms and conditions of employment are as follows: Tenure: This post is offered on a 2 year fixed-term basis. Location: In September 2017, programmes currently operating in the Cathal Brugha Street Campus, the Kevin Street Campus and part of the Rathmines Campus will transfer to the Campus in Grangegorman. In early 2016 it is expected that through legislation the three institutions in the Dublin region Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Institute of Technology, Blanchardstown (ITB) and Institute of Technology, Tallaght (ITT) will merge into a single institution to form the new Dublin Institute of Technology, prior to seeking designation as a Technological University for Dublin. Thereafter, staff may be assigned or reassigned to any of the buildings/centres in the new Dublin Institute of Technology, at the discretion of the Institute and in accordance with collective agreements arrived at from time to time. Salary: The successful candidate will be appointed at point (01) of the Grade V salary scale i.e. 40,213. Hours of work: A 37 hour week is in operation, normally working Monday to Friday. Working outside of these hours will be required from time to time in line with operational requirements of the area. Hours of work are subject to change under relevant Public Sector Agreements. 6

7 Duties: The duties of the role will be provided by the line manager on appointment and will include the detail set out in the Job Description above. The post may be re-assigned at the discretion of the President, in line with operational requirements. Probation: The terms of the Institute s Staff Induction and Probation Policy will apply. Annual leave: Annual Leave and Public Holidays shall be granted as per the Holidays (Employees) Act 1973 and Organisation of Working Time Act The annual leave for this post is currently 25 days inclusive of any compulsory leave days as determined by the Institute. Retirement: Specific details of the pension scheme will be dependent on the successful appointee s individual status and therefore such details will be provided at the time of appointment. Applicants should note that they will be required to complete a Pre-Employment Declaration to confirm whether or not they have previously availed of an Irish Public Service Scheme of incentivised early retirement or enhanced redundancy payment. Applicants will also be required to declare any entitlements to a Public Service pension benefit (in payment or preserved) from any other Irish Public Service employment. Sick Leave: Uncertified: Up to 7 days over a 2 year rolling period paid uncertified sick leave, (but for no more than three consecutive days in any one period). Certified: The terms of the new sick leave scheme effective from 1 st September 2014 shall apply. A medical certificate / doctor s note will be required for absence due to illness in excess of three consecutive days at any one time and for each day in excess of seven days in any one year, or salary will not be paid. The Institute may request a full medical report and is entitled to the facility of having a medical practitioner appointed by the Institute to examine the appointee, subject to any collective agreement applying. The full medical report will be disclosed to the Institute. Sick Leave will be in accordance with the arrangements authorised by the Minister for Education and Skills from time to time. Nature of the post: The post is wholetime and fixed term and subject to the terms of the provisions of the Dublin Institute of Technology Acts 1992 to 2006 and any subsequent Acts replacing or amending these Acts and any orders and regulations made under these Acts will apply. 7
