1 MAAA 2011 Funding Recipients As the designated area agency on aging for the seven county Metro Region, MAAA funds services through the Older Americans Act and nutrition dollars from the State of. MAAA utilizes funding policies to build capacity for effective community services, balances the needs of low-income and minority elders, leverages community resources, and responds to emerging needs. Current priority service areas for the region include: legal services, transportation, special access and outreach, respite services, chore services, senior nutrition services, grocery delivery, health promotion and disease prevention, medication management, and family caregiver support. For more information about MAAA funding priorities and recipients, contact Legal Services Title III B Legal Aid Society of Minneapolis Southern Regional Legal Services (SMRLS) Transportation III B PRISM (People Responding in Social Ministry) To provide 4,250 units of legal representation to protect and enforce the rights of 680 elders in Hennepin and Anoka Counties; to provide 520 seniors education through group presentations to prevent legal problems among elders; and provide major litigation and other impact work in at least three case projects by enforcing laws or seeking reform of present. To provide 3,600 units of legal service to 685 elders on civil legal matters in Carver, Dakota, Scott, Ramsey and Washington Counties; provide 280 clients legal education presentations and 20 units (articles/publications) of community legal education to prevent legal problems among elders; and to publish articles and update booklets on legal issues of concern to elders. To provide a combination of 92,019 individual rides and group rides for 3,844 seniors in Ramsey and Hennepin counties through direct service and 6 subcontracts; coordinate and provide technical assistance to the transportation services network in both counties. $124,855 $124,855 $389,000 Special Access and Outreach III B Vietnamese Social Services To provide special access services to 378 Vietnamese, Karen and Bhutanese elders living in Anoka, Dakota, Carver, Scott, Ramsey and Hennepin counties through translation, service coordination, escort/advocacy, home visits, limited case management, ESL/Citizenship classes $70,000 1
2 Volunteers of America / United Cambodian Association of Pillsbury United Communities Brian Coyle Community Center Lao Family Community of Lao Advancement of America Inter Tribal Elder Services Korean Services Center and other social, educational, and cultural activities. To provide special access services to 500 unduplicated African-American and Hmong elders in Hennepin and Ramsey Counties by providing outreach, I&R, service access assistance, home visits, socialization and support activities, health and wellness, limited case management, translation and advocacy. To provide special access services to 285 Cambodian and Karen elders in Anoka, Carver, Hennepin, Ramsey, Dakota, Washington and Scott counties through outreach, information/referral, home visits, social, recreational and educational activities, advocacy/translation services, citizenship classes and application processes. To provide special access services to 165 East African elders (Oromo and Somali) in Hennepin County by providing outreach, informational/referral, home visits, social/recreational activities, advocacy and translation assistance to connect the elders to appropriate and needed services. To provide special access services to 85 Hmong elders in Ramsey County through outreach, information/referral, home visits, social, recreational and educational activities, advocacy/translation services. To provide special access services to 88 Lao elders in Hennepin County through outreach, home visit, information/referral, social/recreational/educational activities, advocacy and translation. To provide special access services to 85 American Indian elders in Hennepin County through outreach, home visit, information/referral, support group and advocacy. To provide special access services to 130 Korean elders in Hennepin County through home visit, information/referral, social/recreational/educational activities, advocacy and translation. $70,000 Respite Services III B Catholic Charities To provide 4,800 hours of in-home volunteer respite to 76 caregivers in Carver, Hennepin, Ramsey and Scott FamilyMeans To provide 4,400 hours of in-home volunteer respite service to 60 caregivers in Washington County.
