2 History Congress passed the Older Americans Act (OAA) in This year is the 50 Anniversary of the Older Americans Act. In 1972, Hunterdon County established the Hunterdon County Office on Aging/Area Agency on Aging. In August 2009, Hunterdon County Division of Senior, Disabilities and Veterans Services became an ADRC.
3 Mission Statement The Hunterdon County Division of Senior, Disabilities & Veterans Services undertakes responsibility for determining service priorities for older adults and individuals with physical disabilities with the greatest economic and/or social need, especially the impoverished, the frail and vulnerable, and minorities.
4 Hunterdon County Demographics Total population 128, % Seniors, age 65 and above 92% White 2% Black 2% Asian 4% Hispanic 7,291 veterans 5.1% people with disabilities under age 65 Median Household Income $106,143 United States Census Bureau, 2010 and 2013
5 Responsibilities of the Division of Senior, Disabilities and Veterans Services Develop and Implement the Area Plan of Aging Services Conduct a needs assessment Establish service priorities Develop an RFP process Review funding proposals Make funding recommendations to the Board of Chosen Freeholders Monitor Programs and Services Serve as the primary resource of aging, disability and veterans issues
6 Published in the Winter 2015 edition of The Seasoned Years, distributed at the Senior Center and provider agencies as well as posted on the DSDVS website. Received 144 responses, over a 50% increase from 2014

22 Benefits Counseling: to provide seniors and their families with information on insurance and Medicare Care Management: evaluating needs and developing a plan that addresses the specific service areas of need Information and Assistance: to link or enable individuals to obtain available services, benefits, or entitlements Outreach: designed to reach those who are new to the county or live in isolation and are unfamiliar with the Division and its programs, activities and services Transportation: for social, medical and recreational purposes Access Services, 18% of total funding
23 Certified Home Health Aide: general support of home health to maintain, strengthen and safeguard the functioning of older/disabled individuals and families in their homes. Emergency Assistance: services designed to provide assistance in situations where an emergency exists and it is not possible to obtain immediate aid through existing social service agencies. Friendly Visiting: provides regular visits to socially and/or geographically isolated older individuals for purposes of providing companionship and social contact. Residential Maintenance: assists with household repair to enable the person to remain safely in their home. Telephone Reassurance: provides regular telephone calls to the homebound person to assure their well-being and safety and to provide social interaction and psychological reassurance. Housekeeping: assists with routine basic upkeep and management of homes. Home Support Services, 15 % of total funding
24 Adult Day Services: Social day care program for older adults in a protective setting. Adult Protective Services: to protect a vulnerable adult from abuse, neglect or exploitation. Caregivers Support Program: to help relieve caregiver stress and to provide peer support, education and information. Education: classes, lectures and seminars which provide older adults with opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills suited to their interests and needs. Legal Assistance: legal advice, assistance and/or representation provided by or under the supervision of an attorney in order to protect and secure the rights of older adults. Physical Activity: planned and structured activities aimed at improving or maintaining a person s physical health. Physical Health: health screenings, assessment and treatment activities which assist older persons to improve or maintain physical health Community Support Services, 30% of total budget
25 Congregate Meals, Home Delivered Meals, State Home Delivered Meals, Weekend Home Delivered Meals: the provision of nutritionally adequate meals which assure, at a minimum, one-third of the recommended daily allowance to older adults Nutrition Support Services, 32% of total funding
26 Administration 5% of total funding Administration: an allocation of government funding for services which promote independence and dignity of older persons, individuals with disabilities and veterans.
