1 Northwestern Health Sciences University Mental Health Resource List Revised April 2011 Crisis Counseling Services Statewide Crisis Services Crisis Connection Crisis Connection provides free 24-hour crisis counseling by telephone Toll Free MN Men s Line Organization provides free 24-hour crisis counseling to men and those who care about them. It is a service of the Initiative for Violence Free Families of Ramsey and Hennepin Counties MENS National Suicide Prevention Lifeline This is a 24-hour crisis line for people in danger of harming themselves. Statewide: TALK County Specific Crisis Services Acute Psychiatric Services (Hennepin County) Provide 24 hour crisis intervention and psychiatric evaluation on a walk-in basis. Hennepin County Medical Center 701 Park Ave Minneapolis, MN hour Suicide Hotline: Ramsey County Mental Health Center Crisis Program Ramsey County directly provides emergency services through the Adult Mental Health Crisis Unit. The crisis unit provides phone and outreach services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Walk-in hours are from 8am-4pm. Fixed fee, but no one is turned away if unable to pay. Mercy Hospital 4050 Coon Rapids Blvd Coon Rapids, MN Carver / Scott County Mental Health Program Social workers are on call 24 hours a day to handle crisis situations (weekdays) (after hours) Dakota County Crisis Program Social workers are on call 24 hours a day to handle crisis situations. They are dispatched by the Dakota County Sheriff s Department Washington County Crisis Line Provide 24 hour counseling, information and referrals Emergency Shelters Metro Shelter Hotline The Metro Shelter Hotline operates through a toll-free number, , to link homeless callers to shelter information, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Callers will then access specific information about shelter and transitional housing programs in the counties from which they are calling. Grief Counseling Services Center for Grief, Loss and Transition Organization provides specialized therapy and education in the areas of complicated grief, trauma, and life transition Grand Avenue St. Paul, MN, Minnesota Sudden Infant Death Center Organization provides information, counseling, and support to anyone experiencing a sudden and unexpected infant death from any cause. Sliding fees are based on income / family size; however no one is turned away due to their inability to pay. This organization provides outpatient assessments and counseling services to individuals, couples, and families in the western suburbs of Minneapolis Minnetonka Blvd., Suite 200 Minnetonka, MN Storefront Group Organization provides comprehensive mental health services (children/adults) through counseling, medication management and psychiatric services. Organization also provides parenting classes. They have offices in Golden Valley, Hopkins, Richfield, and Wayzata Nicollet Avenue South Richfield, MN Tubman A Center for Women Organization s main focus is providing services to women. They provide individual, couple and family counseling (including chemical health) as well as psychiatric assessment & medication. 6 Watercourse Counseling Center This organization provides individual, family, couples and group counseling on a sliding fee scale. County funding is available for Hennepin County residents with children under 18 years of age who are uninsured or under insured Bryant Ave S Minneapolis, MN Domestic Violence Casa de Esperanza Organization provides crisis counseling and assistance to women and children impacted by domestic violence. Organization also runs a short term shelter for battered women. This organization mainly works with clients from the Latino population. Crisis Line: (bilingual Spanish & English): Domestic Abuse Project Organization provides mental health services to both men that are engaging in abusive and violent behavior and survivors of domestic abuse. This organization also serves children that have been impacted by domestic abuse. Mental health services are provided on a sliding fee scale. DAP also provides free legal advocacy to victims / survivors of domestic violence at the Minneapolis city hall advocacy office. Mental Health Services 204 West Franklin Ave. Minneapolis, MN Minneapolis City Hall Advocacy Office 350 South 5th Street, Room 113 Minneapolis, MN Parenting Resources Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery works with parents in crisis to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect. They provide 72 hour crisis nursery services as well as a 24 hour crisis phone line for parents. Golden Valley Shelter 5400 Glenwood Avenue Golden Valley, MN Hour Parent Help Line: Lutheran Social Services LSS provides a crisis nursery, which is a confidential service offering short-term, safe care for children from infancy through 12 years of age. This care may be provided by a licensed day care provider or may extend to licensed overnight care. The service is provided for families who are experiencing significant levels of stress which may lead to the abuse or neglect of their child. This service is available in: Mankato, Duluth and St. Cloud. 6

Box Roseville, MN (national website) Resource Center for Fathers and Families The mission of the Resource Center for Fathers & Families is to provide resources that will help men become better parents and better parenting partners regardless of marital status. Organization provides parenting classes for fathers, anger management classes, support groups for fathers and faith based marriage counseling. Minneapolis, MN Hour Help Line: Ramsey County Sexual Offense Services SOS is the rape and sexual assault center for Ramsey County, Minnesota. Free and confidential services are provided to victims of sexual violence, their families, friends and other concerned persons. Business Line Hour Hotline: Sexual Violence Center Provide free and confidential services to people impacted by sexual violence, ages 12 and above on a walk-in or appointment basis. Telephone counseling is available 24 hours a day. 7
